evening everyone i just followed the gentoo handbook for my first install of gentoo ever and was able to reach
parser saying it needs a perl module
dcoats and my make.conf for sample USE flags for a desktop/laptop system.
dcoats http://genx.easyshellz.com/gentoo/etc/make.conf
how do i fix this?
dcoats for ALSA_CARDS you will want intel8×0
dcoats and CFLAGS see http://gentoo-wiki.com/Safe_Cflags
Nod-ubuntu: Paste /var/log/Xorg.0.log
sorry guys
my bad
Stop flooding
could you show me your X-session (or something) log file? its located in your home
have you emerged gentoolkit?
ya ya
yes
OK
equery has been no help?
no
testing
well then i'll assume you've scoured google, which means someone else will have to help you
sorry :-/
Pasting
any suggestion for assembler editor that supports syntax highlighting?
vim!
thanks anyway
http://rafb.net/p/fe2JlM70.html
cd_rom, i dont want to perss so many keys to type or to save
cd_rom, some easy to use text editor
Nod-ubuntu: typo in config file…
so i guess noone can help me
ok
Nod-ubuntu: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what you need to do…
crossdev is hanging after it downloads the linuxheaders
oh, you again! lol, no sorry, i don't know any asseembly editor with highlight syntax,
google or something
it says ok and never proceeds to the next step
disable
yes
cd_rom, you always say usefull things lol
im using these paramteres
bird603568, emerge the module it needs
crossdev –gcc 3.4.5 –kernel 2.6.16 armeb-softfloat-linux
Does anyone knows how to unmask (or at least tell me where it might me located the file that masks) a profile masked package? The package is under a cross compile environment, it wont hurt my system..
Disable doesn't work, so am I replacing it with 'off'?
Nod-ubuntu: OK… my fault..
amd64lover, It will be in one of the files pointed to by /etc/make.profile
Yeah.. it was the first place where I tried to find
amd64lover, remove it there but be careful not to install it on the system.
hi all.
Nod-ubuntu: These booleans are really mesed up in xorg configuration
i've successfully installed gentoo on my ibook
you always ask your *unusual* stuff
the uclibc/arm profile has very few files compared to other profiles. I searched in every file and I found nothing
amd64lover, It may be in the parent folder too, since profiles can inherit stuff
hey NeddySeagoon
but i'm having trouble installing the Sun JDK; apparently all the the Sun JDK packages are masked? is anyone else having this trouble?
I checked 1 level inheritance
Hi cd_rom
jdk?
Java Development Kit
Re, I've just made an overlay to update a package with a custom patch I've written. Now when I try to install the new package I get an error that the patching failed. epatch "${FILESDIR}"/genie.patch
epatch "${FILESDIR}"/genie.patch is the entry in the new ebuild. any Idea what's going wrong?
jengle, they are fetch restricted. Follow the on screen instructions to fetch the package yourself
what did you emerge?
I put ""s around Disable and re ran startx. Error message changes to 'off' is not a valid keyword.
amd64lover Sorry, I don't know
please.. could you have a look at uclibc/arm profile and check where is =glib-2.0 masked?
emerge -av sun-jdk
you can just "emerge jdk"
So we either # the option or find a way to say No option
It must be my eyes fault
amd64lover ok
thanks
there's an additional message about a log file being created, look into it for details
ok, thanks
how about jdk?!, is there anything wrong with that?!?!
just suggesting, take no offend
I want Sun's JDK to ensure that some Sun apps will work properly with their jre
Nod-ubuntu: I wrote it bad also around that off in AIGLX section… put quotes around off
I suppose that I have to tell epatch what to patch an where
i see, you can unmask it though
has anyone here installed sun-jdk recently, and had serious trouble with it?
Nod-ubuntu: Sorry for that, but I don't configure X everyday
i don't want to emerge a package that'll be a serious pain
forum will asnwer that question that us here, i suppose
im sure i asked before… but what do gentoo's kernel patches offer over standard kernel?
more option, performance tweak…
don't suppose, read the log
ok
um. you should read http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/genpatches
or pastebin it
I found it
that doesn't tell me more, but I'ill paste it
i wonder why there is only one ebuild for qt with tar.gz, bz2 is smalller!
amd64lover, /usr/portage/profiles/uclibc/package.mask
Okay I made the change and when running startx it goes back to commandline. No errors that I can see inside the log file.
bOkay I made the change and when running startx it goes back to commandline. No errors that I can see inside the log file./b
amd64lover, well done
I've done some tests, .bz2 would save about 15% on average
This is from root and from user
http://rafb.net/p/Ned0Gu68.html
/usr/portage/profiles/uclibc/package.mask is hard masking and not profile masking
but gentoo does not repack the upstream tarballs, and many still use .gz
how do I connect to windows network again? I am using kde
Nod-ubuntu: Ok… the chance was it won't work…
i assume you have looked at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/java.xml
Nod-ubuntu: We will install that experimental stuff
Max9041 it wont work
heh, i was actually talking about '/var/tmp/portage/x11-plugins/beryl-plugins-0.2.1/temp/genie.patch-15614.out', which you are supposed to include in your bug report
The package is masked in inverted sense… /usr/portage/profiles/uclibc/packages: dev-libs/glib-2.5
I am now.
amd64lover True. That suggests it may be broken … read the comment glib-2.x requires working locale/iconv
i tried removing the package but the system says it cant find it
Nod-ubuntu: Did layman emerged already?
ah, thanks! that have always bugged me
ok
witam
what is the error message
jengle:
srry, not this channell
I have been asked to re-test with 7zip and rar to see what is really the best
well, bz2, and tar.gz are popular
Well there are a bunch of patches to disable inconv.. locale is easy to workaround
do any of you know how to scroll left/right in links?
thanks.. I was getting nuts with this one
/usr/portage/distfiles/kdeedu-3.3.5.tar.bz2 -reason:failed on rmd160 verification
amd64lover, you sound like you know what you are doing - go for it
, testing job
Hi. I have the following setup: 1 ethernet card in the internal network and 1 ppp over adsl as my internet connection. What happens is that my pppd gets daemonized and the scripts keep going, without waiting for the ppp interface. How can I make the scripts wait until the ppp0 interface is
up?
no packages slected for removal by clean
amd64lover np … grep is your friend … /usr/portage/profiles/uclibc $ sudo grep -A3 -B3 -R glib ./*
http://rafb.net/p/AKoi3T39.html
add a = before the package name
emerge didn't finish emerge kdeedu so it can't find it in the library
What is the mirrorselect command to pick the 4 best web hosting its like mirrorselect -D ?
or database
Yep
I got the layman thing
ok, I'm not very familiar with diff, there must be something wrong in the patch
Its currently finishing its 'emerge' status though
i think there's an option you can give the ppp config file to not do that… not sure tho.
yes
ishino that doesnt work
cd_rom how do i continiou then?
anyone know how to scroll in links?
yeah.. grep -ril "glib" * was what I was using.. but I looked at =dev-libs/glib-2.5 and I though it was not the cause
lol, it's impossible to read documentation when half the page is missing.
Nod-ubuntu: Give me a minute… I'm searching for the correct overlay…
im not sure
http://shrani.si/files/asdf14bkw.jpg
Hey
you can re-syn
You nailed it. Thanks! updetach has to be given to pppd.
Okie doke
hey guys, i keep trying to restart apache, but i keep getting [!!] instead of [ok], but there's no error messages, even without –verbose and –debug… anyone have any idea
thanks for your time.. see ya
you can change the mirror
and try again
Slycer*
amd64lover Ah … fine good luck with your arm cross toolchain. Do you have it working ? I have an iPaq with familiar, I could build stuff for
sorry sleeples1
uhm what dwill that do?
http://shrani.si/files/asff114bl5.jpg
epatch needs a unified diff, add -u to your diff options
i REALLY dont want to start from the beginning…its been compiling for over 10 hours now
That was a quick one! Thanks again and bye!
Hi all, anyone know how to laod .a52 atari images in emutos?
you don't need to start over
Nod-ubuntu: Try 'layman -a x11'
try another mirror
Okay, one second, still emerging
Almost finished… 5/5
Overlay 'x11' does not exist
what's wrong with emerge -C =pkg-version?
are you emerge kde-meta?
i fail to see why this should fail
emerge didn't emerge kdeedu to the system so no record
Nod-ubuntu: Ok, wait another minute
uhm, then why does he/she ask me how to remove it
it failed before it can even get to the compile hosting state
genie.patch should do it then?
he was…well panicked so
you know what i meant
yep
he needs to get his ebuild sort out
check sum failed
should i install beryl or compiz fusion?
i said to him try another mirror but not sure it's the best solution for the situation
:|
btw, usually patches should be named like pkg-version-purpose.patch or something like that
but it's no requirement
Nod-ubuntu:
/usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf
/etc/make.conf
ishino http://shrani.si/files/asff114bl5.jpg
what is wrong with download the portage archive say portage-****.tar.bz2 then extract to /usr/portage?
because it's not even there (as i know now)
w00t!
what is the actual problem? only the checksum error?
Nod-ubuntu: Then layman -L
ishino http://shrani.si/files/asdf14bkw.jpg
okay, attempting it
well, remove the downloaded file from /usr/portage/distfiles and resume the merge
XD
lol
i was just thinking about that
alt f2 right?
eh?
tty2
The dir doesn't exist
/usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf
/etc/make.conf
/usr/portage/(local doesn't exist)
how do i find out what glib versionim running on
without eix..
may as well be a problem with the ebuild manifest
emerge –info
Nod-ubuntu: mkdir -p /usr/portage/local
thank you
ok package removed ishino
doesn't that header with the two filenames confuse patch?
how do i restart the emerge without losing everything that is already done
/lib/libc.so.6 (as if it were a command) works as well
I need to make the dir of local and layman?
Nod-ubuntu: execute layman -L
How can i make ssh start up my default
–info doesnt work.
let me try the command
doesnt tell me glib info
the picture doesn't look like an explosive device. where is the explosive? lol
ah, sorry, i read glib*c*
dave:oh, sorry i thought you meant glibc
XD ishino
copters.
cd_rom:
emerge -pv glib?!
lol
we been here for too long
XD
no, it doesn't
sigh im trying to crossdev
with compiler 3.4.5 and its not working
oh, man, it's compilcating cross dev
check out lfs cross compling
heh
im sure thats more
hasslesome
http://rafb.net/p/rDzcIq28.html ist the new error message, after having made the patch with the -u flag. Strange
i need distcc too
XD
but details
take a look http://trac.cross-lfs.org/
ok
better going, quiet late! nite
darn slug!
could you pastebin the patch please?
jup
will the ibm jdk run sun's java apps?
like netbeans, for instance
in theory yes, but I wouldn't bet on it
http://rafb.net/p/5duwZN17.html
grrr
I want sun's jdk but i'm not sure why exactly it's being masked
sepisultrum:
usualy emerge shoes the comment of the masks
*shows
you have to include the directory
i know it's missing a keyword
which means that it's probably in testing
Nod-ubuntu: I got lappy from my evil sims2 playing sister
Things will speed up
have any of you used it recently?
src/animation.c ?
lol
Ran the layman -L worked.
www.poker-jack.6x.to
Nod-ubuntu: Ok…
evening everyone, i just followed the gentoo handbook for my first install of gentoo ever, and was able to reach step 10 when you reboot and pray you did everything correct. upon boot up after grub i recieve "kernel panic - not syncing: vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0)" am i
screwed ?
just run diff from the top level directory (one above the package directory)
ok
Aeudian, you are missing the right drivers for either your filesystem… or your HD controller…
Aeudian, (or both)
kury, its a straight older wester digital 80gb drive on ide controller, is there anything i can do?
Aeudian, reboot off the CD, mount your drives/partitions back up how you had them… then run the chroom/env-update/source commands………and then go back to the kernel section.. and try again
likely the filesystem driver, rather than the disk controller \.
Aeudian, I noticed their have been alot of changes recently with the ATA sections of the kernel menu… (donno why…) but several of my ata cards I actually have to turn on under the newer Serial ATA section.. you might look in there..
reiserfs ext3 ext2 squashfs vfat iso9660 udf xfs" if that means anything
now i used the genkernel to make the kernel was that a bad idea?
what filesystem is your / supposed to be?
Aeudian, now… I donno… I've never used the genkernel.. and don't know anything about it..
boot is ext2, swap, and ext3 (root, i would assume)
i went off the guide on making the partitons cause normally in ubuntu i just let the os do it for me
when the system boots, does it find your hard drive, before it panics?
filesystems i see "UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
with seconds and says its 80026Mb
errr with sectors*
which is correct the drive is 80GB
is it possible to tell portage to use specific cflags for some packages. smth like "CFLAGS= etc etc etc" emerge package?
mx-zoom: didn't you ask that before?
Nod-ubuntu: Now follow this until Xorg header
Nod-ubuntu: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_DRI_with_ATi_Open-Source_Drivers#Alternative_installation
Does Mozilla have a cache like IE? a tmp dir..
should my eselect opengl list be on ati or xorg-x11
Okay Cti
check your kernel config, make sure ext2 and ext3 are built in and not modules
Nod-ubuntu, it does, yes
~/.mozilla/profile dir/Cache
which driver are you using? radeon is xorg-x11, ati-drivers (fglrx) is ati
you cannot browse it as easily though
probably my brother. he's the one who wants to know that
. I'm on his comp
Skunky, will do thanks
both i believe
both are listed in the file
mx-zoom: not with the official portage
mx-zoom: there are some extensions around though, search the forums
you cannot use both drivers at the same time.
VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx radeon"
Nod-ubuntu, uhm, wrong, it's: ~/.mozilla/firefox/profile dir/Cache
mx-zoom: or simply use sane CFLAGS for all packages altogether
BTW, you can use Offline mode and History to browse it easily
ishino : I thought that you could do it the same wat you set USE="etc etc etc" emerge package. the only way to do it is change the make.conf file right?
Other then that, i dont know how to tell
Question is it normal for the crossdev not to do anything afer the cross secure linux web hosting headers?
that's just what drivers will be emerged, which one are you using, in your xorg.conf?
mx-zoom: no and no
or just sit there and do nothing
with no cpu usage?
mx-zoom: it's not supported for CFLAGS and USE flags can go in make.conf or package.use
maybe it's thinking.
if you're not sure, strace -p pid
What is the path to that file skunky
thank you skunky
you're kidding, right?
Nod-ubuntu: Oh… I'm sorry… Missed some info..
Nod-ubuntu: Now it is time to run layman -a x11
no im not kidding, having been using this but 3 days
I changed the make.conf, emerged the packages he wanted and then changed it back after I was done. is it bad that I did so?
Nod-ubuntu: But check you have git installed…
I've asked this before, though, i still havnt solved the problem. When i compile the new .22 kernel, sata doenst work, my devices show up as ata devices, and the kernel cant mount the root FS. Anyone have this problem or a solution?
mx-zoom: it works, but the CFLAGS will change with the next updates for the affected packages
can someone help me? i installed GDM but when I rebooted I got following error: http://rafb.net/p/tcCcLg58.html
mx-zoom: there's usually no reason to specify CFLAGS per package anyway
