che, the install to usb went fine, but then it tries to put grub on /dev/sda, which is the other drive

I also went to the trouble of partitioning the drive beforehand and using the expert mode to manually override the physical heads, sectors, and cylinders to ensure that heads were 64 and sectors were 32 to be compatible with assorted bioses

this is possible, but requires you create a repository on another CD/DVD. the repository would contain the updated RPMs. of course it's not required to use yum to update - you can use rpm

b52, there is a typo in your command line before gid=500. Instead of a comma (,) before gid=500, you have set a period (.). Maybe this is why it does not set the gid

I'm not sure. I think the default is to install more than that. You could also try a text mode install (add 'text' instead of 'video=720i' to the command line).

do a custom partition scheme if you know how though, and stop it from using LVM. If you use LVM, the kernel update won't boot

reboot into rescue mode with the dvd or rescue cd .. then grub-install –recheck /dev/sda

the softmac driver needs version 3 firmware, and the mac80211 driver needs version 4 firmware. You have to cut it out of the right version of the driver

ok, so you'll be using bcm43xx-mac80211
I never found that to work very well, until today.
the other driver was always better
but now bcm43xx-mac80211 is as good, so I've switched
