Wrong resolution for the Fedora Core 5 screen during first startup
I just installed Fedora Core 5, but it seems like I choose the wrong resolution for the screen
during first startup and now I can't get any display
How can I reset this?
boot into run level 3
how?
and i think the command is system-config-desktop
edit the grub entry.. and add 3 at the end of your kernel line
hang on
snopey, do you know how to edit the conf file?
you can do ctrl+alt+F1 to do a text login
login as root and edit the config file by doing
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
you will find the resolutions in there and can change them. it it a crt or tft?
tft
I'll give it a try then you do ^o to write out
you can do ctrl+alt+F7 to go back to the X login thing
or if you did change the runlevel to 3 like he said
you can try xinit to just see if X works
let me know if any of that makes sense.
it's sort of the process to fix X problems, which can be tough
the cycle is, edit xorg.conf > retry xininit > edit xorg.conf
Jy: Where should I put 3 in grub, in the kernel line or the initrd line?
i said kernel line
or you can just ctrl+alt+f1
trharris: I don't get a shell with ctrl-alt-F1
login and type init 3 i guess
no login
try f2
the monitor looses sync just after kernel boot
well the grub way should work
ok, got login now
will try editing xorg.conf this red line in xchat shows when people say something when the window is out of focus?
ya neat.
ctrl+alt+f2 should def work…
not sure what the problem is any more
Thank you, display is ok now!
