is there some setup to compile _specific_ packages using another (non-default) gcc versions? (like: everything is compiled by 4.1.1, but package category/foo has to be compiled by 3.4.5 because it's in /etc/portage/package.gcc-versions or whatever…) any ideas?

That was my first thought too, but rc-update add net.eth0 default returned that it was already enabled.
