Ive got a problem with f7 showing right now where gnome apps are taking about 25 seconds to come up during which

change the colon to just a space
ivazquez how about one liner ?
That was a bit more than one line.
connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
just means your machine isn't listening on port 7099
ok.. it just finished, but when i do ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf, it says command not found
"command not found?" A: Run the command AS ROOT after switching users with "su –login" or "su -" in order to get root's command PATH so the command WILL be found; don't run "su" by itself. If it's still not found, then either it's not installed in a standard path location (echo $PATH), is not executable (chmod a+x), is in your current dir (./runme), or you've spelled it incorrectly.
I want to run Beryl on a T60p laptop ATI Mobility FireGL V5200, any recommendations?
you in as root?
yes
bkurt78 thanks
guys what player support playback of rmvb files in fedora7 other than vlc ?
no problem
chupie, did you install ndiswrapper? and the bcmwl.5 driver?
mplayer can't display the video but can play the audio.
well i installed ndiswrapper and just downloaded the drivers for the wireless card…
audio/x-pn-realaudio
Thank you.
what does ls -l /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper say?
you there, sir?
4
yes, but working on a mail server migration, so don't expect quick answers to anything.
ARfdee… don't call people by name when you just get in please, unless you need them for a specific reason.
uhh, that's exactly why i called on him, and you'd be aware of that if you were here earlier today
ARfdee, it not wise to be short with the elders in here
fyi
Not to put too fine a point on it, but you've done that to me for generic questions.
other people can help too
what bluetooth headset did you use with btsco?
when I install an rpm, how do I find out where it goes?
rpm -ql rpm
well, give /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper -i drivernamefile
ivazquez, ive tossed a couple of those out a while b ack
sacmat, it says not installed, but I just installed it
Use the package name, not the filename.
what name you gave for rpm ? remember it is name only no version strings and .rpm
ok, that worked
m -ivh icecast-2.3.1-0.src.rpm
1:icecast ########################################### [100%]
now i do depmod -a right?
rpm -ql icecast
yep
Actually, you can specify a full NEVRA.
oh ok
excuses me chupie do you still have the bcm43xxs mac80211 driver running?
package icecast is not installed
lkhyi;lkiugtunj bhgukjhikkj\
lol that was dumb of me
actually.. i don't know if i do or not
also do a ndiswrapper -l
SRPMs aren't tracked in the rpmdb.
hmm.. depmod command not found
chuck, perhaps you aren't root
su -
include the hyphen
Ive heard a lot of peeps tell me ndiswrapper wont work if the other method has been engaged and not blacklisted or removed
ivazquez, so do you have any idea where it is?
poop, how do you find out the bdaddress of a device again?
i thought it was hcidump
rpm -E %_topdir
scan
how do i blacklist the bcm43xx mac80211 driver?
or do i need to?
i get a connection refused
add them too /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
#
btsco bdaddress
g2g, night
that's nice, konquerer sees my bluetooth headset as a dvd
lol
do i just add blacklist bcm43xx mac80211
ARfdee, strange
why are youy blacklisting that module?
well i figured i needed to? since ndiswrapper is going to be doing it right?
bcm43xx_mac80211 is preferred over ndiswrapper, but if you want to use ndiswrapper, you should blacklist that module and bcm43xx
try adding a -v in there see if it gives you any more. You have paired your computer to the headset, right? typed the pin, etc? I have a jabra 250 and some motorola thing.
ok, blacklisted both, did depmod -a and modprobe ndiswrapper
try dmesg | grep wlan0
i thought i'd paired it a while back. the newest konqueror handles bluetooth so poorly i am afraid to try to pair it again through that
nothing showed up
it's definitely acting different htan if i make up a bluetooth address
try dmesg by itself and see whats at the end of the output
is there a way I can block accessive login attempts to my server?
ARfdee, actually a lot more people are having luck with ndiswrapper
voice setting: 0×0060; can't connect RFCOMM channel: connection
Surely KDE isn't so broken that the *file manager* is expected to handle bluetooth devices?
ndiswrapper version 1.47 loaded (smp=yes)
registered new interface driver ndiswrapper
it's easy… power it off. Power it on and hold down the power button or whatever until it starts flashing. The gnome bluetooth or kde bluetooth applet should see it and you click to pair.
yum install denyhosts
i know, but not with the newest kernel on koji
it finally has a good bcm43xx-mac80211
then read the man page
it's a motorola h700
hcitool search shows it
what did ndiswrapper -l output?
what kind of logins are you seeing?
how do i make gnome bluetooth see it? or at least, if it's paired already, unpair it?
hey opsec
driver installed
318) present (alternate driver:
if the headset is in pairing mode it should pop up a balloon asking about it.
ARfdee, are you talking the -61 cebbert ?
i think it may already be paired, though. how do i unpair it?
-50
you can pair it again even if it already is…
what is the "it" that pops up a baloon?
balloon
ok that looks good. what does iwconfig show?
what's the device name of the RAM?
ah, shows info about it, but its not linked so no ip or anything
something like: http://www.belutz.net/2007/05/14/pairing-bluetooth-devices/
yurimxpxman, /proc/kcore
/dev/mem
yurimxpxman, woops, right /dev/mem
ok good deal. well at this point you can run system-config-network if you like to configure the wireless side of things now.
man, i've done this before, like with my pda
or you can use iwconfig from the command line
i use it with bluetooth in linux all the time
i even use my pda as a bluetooth modem in linux
I am waiting to see if it actually works chupie I know it shows that its there and active but lets see if it actually transmits data
i am not sure this works the same way with a headset
which doesn't "initiate" the pairing
mine does.
well.. the device doesn't show up in the network manager
konqueror's bluetooth:/ shows a motorola h700
you have to hold down the power when you start it and keep holding it for like 10 seconds, and then it goes into pairing mode.
chupie, try system-config-network
however, it has a dvd icon and it doesn't know how to handle an sdp:// url
ok, do i type that in the console.. or what?
yep
yes su - and then that
peters-tx, JohnMahowald: I once saw the memory displayed as a directory.. where's that at?
kdebluemon says it has a 50% signal to the moto h700
command not found
well su - enter, passwd. then that
chupie, you need to learn to use su -
ok?
i did the su -
you have to get to the root path
dud
might not be installed
yum -y install system-config-network
lol he doesnt have that installed on default?
i don't think it is
im getting a problem with the ATI drivers
yurimxpxman, perhaps you aren't thinking of memory, maybe processes?
it couldn't find a working mirror
peters-tx: perhaps. It was quite a long time ago.
peters-tx: I just need to see the contents of the memory somehow.
/etc/init.d/fglrx restart
fglrx.ko for kernel 2.6.22.1-41.fc7 was not found. [WARNING]
fglrx DRI will not be enabled until one is found. [WARNING]
peters-tx: cat /dev/mem doesn't seem to do anything _at_all_ :/
yet i have the kernel installed
try again
is there a bad symbolic link somewhere?
may have just been a fluke
peters-tx: ah, trying again as root.. still don't know how to _use_ this data, though
ls /lib/modules/2.6.22.1-41.fc7/extra/fglrx/fglrx.ko
Question will Midnight commander work in F7?
chupie you arent connected to the net with that machine are you?
E-mu: yes
thanks
yes i am on it right now actually
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do
chupie what does the prompt line say in your terminal window?
ok never minde
ricky, my extra's folder is empty
intersting
chupie type this exactly
cold the Livna RPMs be broken?
system-config-network
and not have installed it correctly
there is no extras any more
ok, now it popped up
The Livna RPM worked for me.
its thought so
but its only showing the ethernet adapter
rpm -q kmod-fglrx
ok, i removed the pairing
what does iwconfig output as the device for the wireless adapter? wlan0?
And if that says that it's installed, rpm -ql kmod-fglrx- otherwise, install it
ok click on new, add wireless
yurimxpxman the rpm was for Redhat 8 but that shoudl work on Fedora 7?
yurimxpxman, it is all of memory… in a file.. the data is what you make of it; what are you trying to do?
yeah, wlan0
bkurt78, lets try config network first
I want to find the device
i'm just wondering if he has to have the alias into /etc/modprobe.conf first.
ricky, thanks
E-mu: why not `yum install mc` (or whatever the package name is)?
i think that might be it
is the module loaded?
cant he do modprobe and find that out
still… it should have installed it as a dependency
it didnt
peters-tx: I'm trying to get the videos from http://www.purevolume.com/videos/mxpx/sessions, and I believe they're only cached in memory.
do lsmod ndiswrapper
chupie, in the network window click on new then wireless then next
Well, you'll probably have to ask whoever maintains that package about that, then.
ok, i repaired
re-paired
ah ok will do!!
do i need to set device to pair before i do btsco?
318) present (alternate driver:
ok, adding new device is doesn't show a wireless adapter
no, once you are paired you should be able to run btsco… or btsco2.
How does one format a usb flash drive in fedora
ok well it cant find it. hang on let me find a good help guide for you to refer too
uh to
yurimxpxman, hmm. well perhaps you could look into mplayer
peters-tx: mplayer doesn't have swf support, though
brb
yurimxpxman, oh; hmmm
/dev/mem`
brb
yay! i got it to play a wav sound through bt headset
cool
hooray
i am using it with skype
glad to hear it. (so to speak)
ok, so i have a question, sir
http://bluetooth-alsa.sourceforge.net/build.html
all those lines after "right now the daemon interaction is somewhat limited…"
put alternating lines… etc
what do i do about all that?
and should i use any of andreas beck's scripts? like the .btscorc?
hmm, ok
Did you figure it out?
ahh someone said my name, am i still needed?
thats if you want the headset button to do something. it's not required.
how do you connect to a AP thru the console?
so i don't need the hikack thing?
hijack
well how is your ap setup? are you doing wep, wpa?
chupie, do this lsmod bcm43xx and see how many instances you have listed
well wait
system-config-network
now sees the adapter
what are you trying to accomplish, sir?
chupie, kewl then click on activate
another new kernel… BRB http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=15464
well adding it real quick, ok, gonna d/c from the ethernet
you may have to disconnect from your wired connection first though
if its the same interface
good man
i use all of those drivers all of the time
ahh.. I need help.. I just locked myself out of my jboss server hosting with swatch
with wpa, wep, etc
I've killed the process through another machine.. but am still locked out
easy way to use it is with ndiswrapper and NetworkManager
if you want monitor mode, you can't use ndiswrapper
I cant find where to unban myself
yeah, ok. it isnt' working
i am using the driver right now on a wpa network, what are you trying to do and what is the problem?
well.. i just want my wireless to work
and what chipset do you have
broadcom 4318
you isntalled the bcm43?? ndiswrapper driver?
(not the bcm43xx.ko)
yeah
the ndiswrapper drier
what does ndiswrapper -l say?
pastebin.ca
thx for help, sir
ahh… found something interesting:
ok, so it detects your thing
pastebin
ldd /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so
(0×00110000)
/lib/libpthread.so.0 (0×003f0000)

/lib/libm.so.6 (0×00408000)

/lib/libc.so.6 (0×0043d000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0×80000000)
sorry for paste
:P
nothing shows up
so libstdc++.5 is missing
*sigh* You didn't use the OEM driver, did you…
who me?
Yes, you.
ok then
no.. Livna driver… but it didnt work.
iwlist wlan0 scanning
(pastebin)
it started complaining about not having Livna-Config-Display and other crap
no scan results
so i installed this
does it wait for a moment before saying that?
so its closer now
and… also, the wireless led on the laptop isn't on either
and try it as root(not sure if that matters)
oh
lsmod |grep ndiswrapper
it matters
ndiswrapper 175004 0
locate libstdc++…
lol chupie question are you updated?
i personally had to put /sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper in /etc/rc.modules
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8
have you done yum -y update yet?
no
have you rebooted since you removed the mac drivers?
lol ok first you need to update
so is the so.5 like a legacy thingy?
yes
and only have the ndiswrapper loaded?
i think so
chupie fist step is always to update via yum
open a root terminal and yum -y update
I am getting pretty tired here
is f_newton for fig newton?
thats the way it is ARfdee
no packages marked for update/obsoletion
try this, put /sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper in /etc/rc.modules and reboot
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61 ?
see if the light turns on
then you are updated one more thing chupie do a uname -r and tell me what kernel you are running
and when it's done booting, do lsmod |grep bcm
2.6.22.1-41.fc7
ARfdee, he may not be using a kernel that bcm43xx works in
but i'm trying to get him to use ndiswrapper and not bcm43xx
i don't think bcm43xx.ko works correctly with 2.6.22.1-41, something about pci ids
ok ARfdee bcm943xx is the device
so i was told on the list, so i compiled it myself
oh i thought you meant the driver
well, i am using it right now on that particular kernel
no the driver is bcm43xx-mac80211
there are both
you can use the old driver, i was doing so recently. bcm43xx.ko
type modinfo bcm43xx and you'll see yourself
however, with the fedora kernels, the pci ids are removed or something, so i was told on the list
I never could get mine to work. I replaced it with an intel pro wireless
what laptop?
brb, gonna reboot
hp dv6205
you should join the bcm43xx- mailing list, i've accomlished cool stuff on it
i've gotten my chipset working with ndiswrapper, bcm43xx, and bcm43xx-mac80211
I couldnt care less about broadcom
broadcom is crap always has been always will be
however, bcm43xx-mac80211 doesn't work with my school's wap so i had to go back to ndiswrapper today
ok… looks like the compatability-libstdc++ has the .so.5 in it
[root@localhost ~]# ldd /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so
(0×00110000)
/lib/libpthread.so.0 (0×003f0000)
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 (0×00408000)
/lib/libm.so.6 (0×004c1000)
/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0×004ea000)
/lib/libc.so.6 (0×004f6000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0×80000000)
time for service restart
I am happy with what I have now ARfdee Xaero_Vincent you are going to get moved outa here
please stop pasting tons of stuff in the channel…
does linux based hosting services unzip have a way of fixing errors?
err is there a zipfix i guess i mean
I use tar files ARfdee
yeah i probably should have done that
heh.. you guys are quick to complain about my pastes but easy to ignore me when I ask for help… so I had to figure it out myself
don't you feel better
hmm
ok
the return of chupie
yeah
heh
what did you do?
Xaero_Vincent, pasting five lines or more is grounds for ban read the topic… use pastebin
f_newton, pastebin wasnt working… the upload function keeps stalling
I was only trying to warn you Xaero_Vincent
?
chupie:
use rafb then
multiple pastebins exist
John, well it turns out i was ignored and had to fix the problem myself… so that would have served no purpose anyway
pastie.caboo.se
yeah, nothing
still not working
brb
its not that you are ignored its that someone hadnt gotten around to helping you yet
chupie, try going to koji and installing the -61 kernel
ack, I suddenly can't log into my main account on my mail server (dovecot), it keeps giving me "dovecot-auth: pam_unix(dovecot:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=dovecot ruser= rhost=
