trouble with fedora and smb-nmb looks like things arent resolving Install is fedora 7 machine name gorky
well not all afternoon.
I've been working
perlmonkey2, as the old saying goes if it is working "dont fsck with it
any one here knows ho to enable dual mode in my synaptic touchpad?
xorg-x11-drv-fglrx showed some errors.but yum reports it installed correctly.
define dual mode please
ConfigParser.NoSectionError: No section: 'Configuration'
dual mode ? my touchpad is downright bipolar
perlmonkey2, had you installed ati driver from ati before this
perlmonkey2, rpm -q xorg-x11-drv-fglrx
perlmonkey2, rpm -q kmod-fglrx
perlmonkey2, rpm -q glx-utils
what should i be doing if i want to re-generate the installer dvd default kernel with a kernel patched with some driver module or make the dvd loads some modules on start?
perlmonkey2, maybe one of these days ati will release a HCL
no, I used the F7 default ati driver
perlmonkey2, you used the radeon driver
xorg-x11-drv-fglrx-8.40.4-2.lvn7
until then Southern_Gentlem I will continue to obtain hardware the the current level of fedora accepts.
kmod-fglrx-8.40.4-2.2.6.22.1_41.fc7
hint hint
glx-utils-6.5.2-13.fc7
perlmonkey2, reboot into runlevel 3
yes, the radeon driver.
If I do that, I'll loose irc.
Thanks for trying.
here is a link showing what is dual mode, http://www.synaptics.com/products/dualmode.cfm
sooo… how do I debug a total loss of sound ?
nothing that produces sound does…
el-dan do you have that hardware
system-config-soundcard speaker, software volume controls
yes
JohnMahowald, OK, lets go one step at a time. system-config-soundcard
you have dual mode touchpad
yes
Automatic detection of the sound card did not work. This audio device will not be available on the system.
that is so new it is in linux yet
in my toshiba satellite
JohnMahowald, that is when I hit 'play test sound'
Hmm, something is working…starting googleearth to see if I have accelartion.
i couldnt find anything in google
sound test .. Vendor VIA Tech. Inc. Model VT8c686 AC97 Audio controller
snd-via82xx
perlmonkey2, nice to know that staying connected to irc is more important than fixing your problem
How would I talk to YOU!
afterwards
Then I needed more instructions.
JohnMahowald, are you helping me or was that just a pointless throwaway comment?
which i was giving
My apoligies for not being more patient.
are you going to give more information or just accuse me of things?
untill you posted but you would lose irc
JohnMahowald, please let me know what I can tell you… my sound has stopped working since install of f7 … clicking 'play' on the test sound tab of system-config-sound givs the error I posted
JohnMahowald, for example, which config files should I paste? What settings should I look for? What software should I ensure I have?
can i use windows drivers, with ndiswrapper?
or just wait until fedora linux support it
uh ndiswrapper's purpose is to use windows drivers
xmms says 'problem with sound card', mplayer says 'no sound' …
you already are using system-config-soundcard. However I have no idea of the status of that driver.
JohnMahowald, which driver?
the module?
yes
thing is that it was working, but problematically… I have tried to fix it in various ways leading to a total breakdown
now I feel like I have a borked config and no idea how to fix it…
I would like to just 'restore default settings' wrt my soundcard
that's what system-config-soundcard is for
oh dear
how can i know wich fingerprint reader do i have? lspci doesnt show it
going to try thinkfinger ?
yea
but it says is just for SGS Thomson Microelectronics fingerprint reader and i dont know if have that
What about lsusb?
how was it broken and what exactly did you do to attempt a fix?
clicking 'rewrite config' in system-config-soundcard … which files are altered?
how do I enable ssl?
JohnMahowald, things like xmms were working, but totem was not.
I just installed firefox by doing yum install firefox
when I try to go to gmail.com it says can not open because ssl is disabled
hi
which xmms output plugin?
Also, I had a really strange 'jitter' problem, where sound was continuously repeating … seemed like a driver problem
JohnMahowald, both alsa and oss
both?
just use alsa
No Southen_gentleman?
JohnMahowald, both were working
I got my machine back to where it was….
Is there a way to be able to connect to my computer remotly via VNC through a web browser, like Remote Desktop Web Connection for Windows?
now both failing
oh well, I'll thank him tomorrow.
9] -!- Southern_Gentlem [n=notfred@unaffiliated/southerngentlem/x-2894754] has quit ["they ignore you, they laugh at you, they fight you, YOU
Thank you
ok
yikes… I just don't know what I did
thanks lsusb works!
I'll try again tomorrow…
I don't know what is going on …
that is how I am working on my wireless facefaceface lol
vader1102, networkmanager?
facefaceface, it is a broadcom with one heck of a driver issue lol
heh
I will get it one of these days
that is the thing… I was like … I get sound up and running properly at some point..
like I know how it should work … but at least it lets me listen to music atm…
I work at it till I get flustered, walk away and work on it more when I cool off
now its like totally borked.
facefaceface, what does alsamixer give you?
VIA 82C686A/B rev50 … Chip: Cirrus Logic CS4299 rev 4
ok, does it allow you to monkey with the columes and muting and all?
yah
ok is anything muted?
nope… I am getting errors from things that use sound, rather than the appearance that they are playing without hearing anything
hmmmmmm you tried reconfiguring the sound right?
how would I do that?
hmmmmmm leme look
mplayer said … AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pcm_hw.c:1242snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy … [AO_ALSA] Playback open error: Device or resource busy
pulseaudio-esound-compat conflicts with esound
I am just trying to install every sound related package that I can in the hope that something works…
facefaceface, system-config-soundcard I got this from http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SystemConfig/soundcard?highlight=%28sound%29
vader1102, it just balls and asks me to file bugs…
ooooooooo not good, could the sound card have cacked?
perhaps…
I'll happily try anything that you can suggest…
facefaceface, have you done smolt on that system yet? Maybe they would have some sort of answer
evening
smolt?
mooky, hi
smoltSendProfile?
Where do i get cabextract for F7
is it on yum
cabextract ?
yes facefaceface, that will send the profile and give you a link to it, then you can use that to point the bug to
OK
to extract the driver for bcm43xx
what do you mean extract the driver ?
http://smolt.fedoraproject.org/show?UUID=d1a2bc4e-fb86-43f2-9607-223c2b598730
the driver is aither in a tar file, or an inbuilt kernel module
that driver is not working with my chipset
s3cur17y, hehehe what card? I have the 4311 and I say good luck……. if using F7
bs3cur17y, hehehe what card? I have the 4311 and I say good luck……. if using F7/b
same card
cader1102, what are you using then, ndiswrapper
good luck my friend, if you get it befor I do…..leme know how
hey … you two should work together!
fwcutter as they say ndisswrapper borks the system
only what I have read
Well atleast I got compiz-fusion, to work on my own..
s3cur17y, lol……that worked for me, right after I installed the Nvidia stuff lol
I only have my webcam and my wifi to get working then everything except 2 button won't work
I had to do some tweaking to get it to work with my GeForce Go 6150
I never use my built in web cam so I don't know if it works or not lol
I had to do no tweaking at all for the same card s3cur17y
hmm
do you have problems with your mouse?
nope
hmm
I had to do an init3 right off the hop and install the nvidia stuff or I had an unusable system
i don't have a Mouse Cursor sometimes
thanks for help vader1102, and to a lesser extent JohnMahowald
that happened to me in FC6 s3cur17y
F7 seems to have fixed it
s3cur17y, does a reboot fix the mouse issue when it happens?
yeah
same issue I had with FC6, this is amd 64 you are talking bout right?
I did 'Option "HWCursor" "False"' and I can see the mouse but I have problems with it
yeap
HP Pavilion dv6000
hmmmmmm I wonder why I have had no problems with mine since moving to F7…….
mine is the DV9201CA
hmmmmmm I am going to burn a copy of the windows driver on my vista partition tomorrow and see what happens
how do
damn it. How do i make it so irssi will automaticly connect on startup and put in my password then join a channel?
s3cur17y, I use Xchat, never used irssi
make a .irssis file
ok
my fingerprint reader works!
brb, i am going to see if this works
el_dan, how so, I have one for my usb mouse and it don't work
k s3cur17y
im happy
¬¬
el_dan, if I decide to work on my finger print reader, where did you go for the instructions on it?
thinkfinger
i use http://thinkfinger.sourceforge.net/
Ok back
wb
just so you know i got my broadcom 4311 working in fc7
s3cur17y, how…. plz
1. su -c 'yum -y install cabextract.i386'
one sec working on one thing. finishing it now
2. download this exe, http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/24001.html
3. Save the file to something like ~/drivers
4. cabextract sp34152.exe
5. ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
6. blacklist both bcm43xx drivers
ok, just msg when your done
k
I need to go out and give my car a bath sometime soon… Since it is not raining for once..
hmmmmmmm go ahead, I will work on it later s3cur17y I don't understand cabextract
vader what do you need cabextract for
hi btw
Melio, I was talking bout the broadcom wireless, with s3cur17y
all you have to do with cabextract is 'cabextract SP34152.exe'
and he has his working
oh ok
hmmmmm
that is pretty amazing if you ask me
cool vader
it just uncompresses the files..
hi f_newton
well i have it working with ndiswrapper
hey Melio how ya doin?
bcm43xx really does not work with Broadcom 4311
you are limited to wireless b
not the actuall g
F_newton doing well
my bcm94311 didnt work but a lot of people said it was because it was a dell 1390 version. yet someone in here has theirs working
glad to hear it
I just replaced mine with a pro wireless
the first command you gave me dumps me into another blank prom
prompt
s3cur17y, ^^
username [priv] would that mean that theres a current ssh session on that username?
did you 'cd' in to the dir that you saved the exe?
yes
ls it and you should see some files
ok
now do you have ndiswrapper installed
yes
ok now do 'su -' then 'ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf'
cabextract aint workin for me lol
s3cur17y, you usually don't need ndiswrapper with bcm43xx
the driver for bcm43xx is only limit to Wireless b at the moment
hi all. When I first installed Apache 2.2 what were the ownership and permissions of /var/www/cgi-bin?
try and do 'unzip SP34152.exe'
4311 PCI-E Supported for kernel 2.6.20.6 and later
http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=devices
but the problem is your connection is very bad
could someone with apache installed please type this and tell me what you see?: ls -ld /var/www/cgi-bin
I had the bcm43xx driver working with FC6 and it was so slow
calhoun, ps is only outputting what ssh says its args are. ssh (and other apps) change it for security.
did you get it uncompressed
s3cur17y, that's not all bcm43xx concerned! that's only the support from your device
bcm43xx works most of the time…
no
either way, i got it working with ndiswrapper. and much faster
actually bcm43xx-mac80211
i used this as a guide, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/Broadcom_BCM4311_rev_01_%28ndiswrapper%29?highlight=%284311%29
how can you consider using ndiswrapper as an external module is faster ?
don't point me on ubuntu doc!
http://doc.fedora-fr.org/Wifi
because with bcm43xx i was only connecting at 11Mbps
which device do you have ?
4311
/sbin/lspci ?
did you tryed bcm43xx-mac80211 ?
0.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-PCI Card (rev
nope, at the moment I could care less to..
Because I got ndiswrapper working
and since i got my wifi working now, the only thing left to get working is my Built-In WebCam
then everything but 2 buttons will work, and that is only because I can't map them..
well if you you the same device and it do not work - maybe ndiswrapper is an alternative at this time… but users have to test bcm43xx first…
and there is a tweak to make it work sometime…
I tested with bcm43xx but not the other
http://drpixel.tuxfamily.org/index.php?2007/07/06/73-carte-wifi-broadcom-et-fedora-7
that's in french but commands are the same…
the only reason I would want bcm43xx to work is to using packet injection, but since i have ndiswrapper work. it don't matter anymore
http://drpixel.tuxfamily.org/index.php?2007/07/06/73-carte-wifi-broadcom-et-fedora-7
I got my cam to work for a brief second
then the cam locks up

what to do?
you need to decide on one or the other and remove the packages from the other
ok i go with livna
how do i remove freshrpms
rpm -qa –qf "%{VENDOR}-%{NAME}\n" | grep -i freshrpms
remove what comes up from that
hmm it seems that some of the gstreamer-plugins in bad have moved to good in the testing update for f7
conflicts with livna's bad package
hmmm
new licenses?
opsec, bad != ugly
opsec, bad i belive are things that haven't met gst's gold standard for good
which plugins have been moved over?
opsec, libgstwavpack.so libgstvideocrop.so libgstqtdemux.so
opsec, are the conflicts i get
it didnt work http://rafb.net/p/CbTk9G28.html

oh that worked opsec thankyou but how did you know i cant have both freshrpms and livna?
unrar?
nope tried
one second, i will put it on my site

vzduch, lemme just keep up with s3cur17y first plz…. havin too many probs right now
lol
http://s3cur17y.com/bcm43xx-drivers.tar.gz
extract those to '~/drivers'
got it
then do 'su -' and then 'ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf'
yeah, I need to get rid of the fwcutter right?
you can if you don't want it
Hi, is there a way to broadcast music so that the same song would be playing on my local machine and another on the network?
Say my flatmate and I wanted to have a party and play the same music stream in two rooms
can't VLC do that
did you do 'ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf'
yes told me could not find the .sys file
alecangus, stuff like icecast is made for that (but the packaged icecast won't handle mp3). vlc will also uni/multicast on the lan.
you untared them both right
yes
hmmm
lets try this again
I am watching
how do you dcc with irssi
'/dcc send nick file?
anybody know how to turn on the 32-bit disk access since the new kernels use /dev/sd* ?
?
did you get that file
no, hangin on connect
ok one sec
I got the one from ur site
well i compressed all the files into a tar..
peters-tx: what are you trying to do?
that way you have them all
s3cur17y, only 2 came through the site lol…….. hmmmmm
ok
I must be getting tired lol
ok, try this file, http://s3cur17y.com/SP34152-CabExtracted.tar.gz
then 'su -'
'cd ~/drivers' then 'ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf'
and see what that does
k
how does fedora handle gps units that are usb connected
I have a new garmin gpsmap 76csx
it's pretty cool
opsec, just installing F7 on my laptop, PATA disk
I want this, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8242458&type=product&id=1169512508513
any luck?
opsec, booting it for the 1st time
says it is installed already
hehe, 'ndiswrapper -l'
invalid driver
what does it have listed
bcmwl5
hmm. do '
does not say .sys or . inf
ndiswrapper -r bcmwl5
k
then do ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
see if you get the same .sys error
s3cur17y, the garmin handheld I have is more accuarate
and cheaper
altho the xm/sirus stuff is nice
omg it insttalled
installed
8 channel gps
my garmin is 30 channel
the gps would be a bonus with the dvd player
now, blacklist 'bcm43xx' and 'bcm43xx-mac80211'
opsec, F7 is so very nice
k
then reboot, and then do 'su -' and then 'modprobe ndiswrapper'
I remember the olden days, before F7…
what FC6
blacklist bash not found
lol no, like RH 5 etc
and I am in a su -
you have to add them to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
how…… sort of at my end here
you cna't watch dvds while driving
my wife has a laptop with a dvd player in it
'gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist'
heh f7test

same here, but I want the indash dvd/gps touchscreen for my Envoy
that way i can burn all my mp3's to a dvd and play them on that. Instead of having to search my cd's

it also has a SD reader
I have a SLT
it doesnt transform?

maby we can make our own gps in dash systems with linux and a nice gps interface
How do I get to the other window in irssi
hello… trouble with fedora and smb/nmb. looks like things aren't resolving. Install is fedora 7, machine name gorky. Windows box is called hollywood. No firewall on hollywood, and gorky firewall configured to let samba in. Can ping by ip from/to either machine, but not by name. Does nmb
need special configuration? how?
You need to start it.
nmb and smb are started
:%g/^\(Melio\|s3cur17y\).*/d
can see it in ps -x and also swat
The "Samba" checkbox doesn't open all the proper ports IIRC.
zcat is a nerd
that would be a problem…
Anyone have recommendations on a text based irc client?
Melio, yes, he is in good company
dbus-send with telepathy
yes I dub him nerd, from my nerd nighthood
knighthood
:p
8)
i dub thee, melio, sir chatalot
zcat, I accept the dubs
also, where is smbclient on fedora 7?
can't seem to find it
i tried to install with yum, but yum said there was "nothing to do"
"nothing to do?" A: When yum reports "nothing to do" what it's really saying is that the "package may already be installed" (or it doesn't exist), so there's nothing for it to do. (ask directly: rpm -q package).
dmc, probably already installed
but it's not on the disk… find doesn't find it
dmc, might be named differnly then the package name
is it called something other than 'smbclient'?
dmc_lat47, I have it on this default install of F7
dmc_lat47, it is in samba-client
are there any programs open source for creating dvd slide shows with sound?
thanks
anyone know where i can get kde 4 beta 1 packages for fedora 7?
hi all
I just bought 2 new SATA disks that I'm adding to a system with 1 IDE disk already (FC4)
I want to upgrade to F7 at the same time
I'm going to RAID the 2 new disks and I'd like to figure out a way of keeping the IDE disk as my OS disk, but have /home and /var be on the new disks….
is there a way to do that?
Yanroy, a number of ways
Yanroy, look into mdadm
peters-tx: my mobo has a RAID controller
peters-tx: I figured I'd just use that
Yanroy, that's another way
Yanroy, sure
Fake RAID, no doubt.
yeah, it is, but at least it's hardware support… and according to some website I found, linux has full support for the chipset
Yanroy, ivazquez is correct… usually the mobo controllers just fake it by moving the RAID functionality into the driver
Yanroy, whatever is easiest for you
Yanroy, if you use mdadm, the drives can be moved to another mobo
Support for the chipset means very little when it comes to fake RAID.
peters-tx: it has some BIOS screens to set up the RAID stuff… but according to the website I found, the chipset is fakeraid
Yanroy, try it… can't hurt
http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html#fakeraid says it has some kernel support for VT8237
Yanroy, disable the fakeraid and go with software raid. faster, more portable, more control, "less hassle"
firefox dvd-slideshow.html &
is it really faster? I find that very hard to believe, even though that website I referenced a sec ago said the same thing
it is very counterintuitive
Yanroy, on my F7 default, there's a kernel module that has that string in it … "pata_via.ko"; so you're probably good to go
even having any dedicated hardware, no matter how little it does, I would think would be faster than software
oh, I want to mirror these, not stripe them, if that makes any difference
Yanroy, softw raid vs hardw raid is probably about the same.. there are arguments for softw being faster due to the OS driver having access to RAM
need sed tutorial?
peters-tx: how does the software raid tell me one of the disks has failed / rebuild the failed disk when replaced? I would think that's something only the hardware could do
Yanroy, go w/ the hardware mirror then
you can try pulling it after you make it and stick it into a different machine to make sure it's portable
Yanroy, raid failure notification would be more difficult w/ hardware raid imho; but either way it'll tell you
Yanroy, mdadm monitors the array and emails you on failure (and can run any other util you config to further notify you). mdadm can also automatically rebuild to a hotspare.
Yanroy, since you want to mirror a non-boot disk it's really kind-of arbitrary
you've convinced me… I'll do software raid
Yanroy, try both
I need to figure out how I can set up the raid disks and wipe out the old disk w/o losing the data on the old disk…
err
although this just became a problem for another day… I forgot to order sata power adapters :'(
I suppose that's possible with both of them
unless you're really good at soldering
peters-tx: hehehehe… well, I am… I do have a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering
Yanroy, so
?
i have seen phd's in the same subject that couldnt out soldier a high school student
oh, well, yes, that is quite common. luckily, I spent 7 years on a FIRST robotics team (including 4 in high school)
and I've been building robots and other electronic creations since I was in middle school
Yanroy, ok then you may can soldier
I've got at leats 10 years of soldering experience under my belt… I'd say I'm pretty good at it
Yanroy, cool. didya meet mr. segway?
I have, many times
Does the livecd have an option to do an integrity check?
(I'm used to Ubuntu, and I'm installing this on a second computer.
Yanroy, i was certified as a welder @ 12, now i am iso9003 certifed
define integrity check
I was lucky enough to be certified at NASA grade 2 soldering when I did my degree
and I haven't picked an iron up since
sweet. I've welded a few times, but not enough to get good at it… I've always wanted to buy a tig welder to play with…
Yanroy, my father owned a welding shop
i was welding at 6
Dr_Link, agreed; what is this "integrity check" of which you speak
luckily for me, i developed allergies to the welding flux
Yes, it does.
heh… yeah, I can understand that. I can't imagine how much lead I've inhaled over the years…
the integrity check checks the disk if the installer and the OS itself will work.
Thanks, ivazquez
hmm
Hah.
Burning the ISO right now.
VileGent, err; that's a long time welding
695.5MB size ISO, 700MB disk.
XD
peters-tx, 30 years tommorrow
Dr_Link, F7 ?
Yep.
VileGent, whew
Dr_Link, doing an internet or http install?
peters-tx, we said livecd
eh, no
he said
what he said
gotcha
Oh, I'm not sure if the live media has a check.
Does the LIVECD have an option to do an integrity check? — Just for good measure =Þ
Well, I'm going to find out when I run the test.
The normal media does.
As in, when I test the CD if it starts up does
Did you verify the checksum before burning?
Yes.
I'll bet it does; you probably use "mediacheck" at the boot prompt I'll bet; if that's the same thing that is
ok now i know what he is talking about
starting vm
Fedora and Ubuntu seem to hate laptop batteries.
But not nearly as bad as Red Hat Server.
_
Really?
I've heard that Fedora handles them decently.
Well, they drain it pretty quick, but no where near as badly as Vista.
uWell, they drain it pretty quick, but no where near as badly as Vista./u
of course, Windows drains 'em faster when you use wireless.
I have an Ubuntu/Windows XP dualboot here.
i'm going to install loads of linux on my new (well, used) computer.
I think you do "linux mediacheck" at boot
You see, I don't really like to see the big differences in Linux. If it's Linux, it's Linux. That means top o' the line security and performance.
I am interested in the Linux. "grepping" and "recompiling the kernel" aren't greek terms to me. =Þ
(Please excuse the ASCII smilie)
the answer is no the livecd doesnt do mediacheck
Aw darn.
VileGent, you're kidding
no
You used the i686 LiveCD ISO, correct?
yikes
yep
That makes sense. It's anaconda that does the mediacheck, but the live media doesn't start with anaconda.
That makes sense. It's anaconda that does the mediacheck, but the live media doesn't start with anaconda.
Oh damn it! I really wanted to check to see if it would work.
It might still work regardless…
ivazquez, but I'd expect the livecd to have some sort of system rescue ability and thus anaconda
It does… when you boot it normally
peters-tx, after it is up and running
e.g.: dd if=/dev/dvd bs=2048 count=$(isosize -d 2048 /dev/dvd) | sha1sum
Assuming you burned it with normal options.
o_o (Good thing that's logged)
I just used a run o' the mill ISO burner.
If you burn it in a different mode then the number changes.
This burner doesn't let you change special settings.
(Most of the time you won't need the settings anyway.)
You will if you want to burn the x86_64 media.
Well this is i686. The file name is Fedora-7-Live-i686.iso
Dr_Link, same file i brought up in vmware
ok guys, what do you think the option "Verify and run from image" in the boot menu means??
does anyone knoe of any current dvd slideshow authoring tools
"The media check is complete, the result is "Pass" "
hehe
Almost done with the burning?
*!
peters-tx, you got me there i was doing media check on boot prompt
Dr_Link, fyi, the live-cd does in fact have a media check option at boot
That's what I'm asking for ("integrity check")
VileGent, yah, it just adds "check" I think
I finally finished the ISO.
It's done.
it runs pretty well
TIme to go give it a whirl.
its verify and run from image
be right back.
Dr_Link, choose the option at the bottom when you boot
too late?
Umm…
eh…
I tested it on a Windows 98 HP pc from a while back…
(the Ubuntu disk)
worked fine.
what is average memory used by F7, with default installation ?
But the fedora disk causes the drive to mount, unmount, mount again, then reunmount, and then boot to Windows.
getting 514Mb here
all it can
too much variance in installation to mean anything
what does the releasenotes say
is not too much ?
514 Mb
is not too much
CrocoJet, what does the releasenotes say
let me look
thanjks
Dr_Link, err; what do you mean exactly
Well, I hear a "click" of the drive setting in on the disk… then the reverse "click" of it unsetting, then a click of it refocusing to the disk, then a click of it defocusing, and then it boots to Windoze.
is there any command or a test program to know if fedora is recognizing both proccesors and their exactly mhz capacity, cat /proc/cpuinfo says my cores have 800 MHZ and that is not true
hi
peters-tx: Did you get that?
VileGent, nothing about memory use in releasenotes
meh, what the hell.
I may as well just give VMWare Player a try
CrocoJet, all of it.
hai!
what part of it's wrong? speed?
Crackjet your blind
sounds that F7 eat much more memory than Fc6, right ?
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/f7/en_US/sn-ArchSpecific.html#sn-ArchSpecific-x86-hw
let me see
nirik, yes speed information is wrong
unlikely
they're just speedstepping when idle
yes, it's likely stepping them down to save power. Do you have the ondemand module loaded? ie, '
lsmod | grep ondemand
let me se
e
256MiB" .. sounds strange, because I have 767Mb and using now, only xchat open more 562Mb
how are you determining what is used?
nirik yes i have it loaded
default installation of F7
hello, now i was wondering u might get this alot or not? but does the fedora core when installed on the ps3 support Blu-ray?
foolin w/ Compiz on my laptop very cool
right, so it's likely powering down your cpu(s) when not in use.
what command or information are you using to determine 562MB is used?
"top"
oooo every day i learn something new
^?
the memory that appears in 'used' includes cached files and buffered I/O. Linux will try and use all your memory to buffer and cache.
766856k total, 527516k used, 239340k free, 38408k buffers
elite101, I think you're going to have to check the features page for that fedora/ps3 project
is there a link?
ah ok
look at the man page for free
elite101, I don't know, never been there.. probably
has anyone that was running the F7 went into the IRC chat? lol
mhmm i will check on google
elite101, http://fedora-ps3.com/Main_Page
elite101, what do you mean? I'm in IRC under fedora… ?
crackjet with vmware server running
1034388k total, 1009644k used, 24744k free, 2308k buffers
I feel so manly when I use the –nodeps option to remove a package
2031608k total, 165468k used, 1866140k free, 888048k cached
Man_at_Arms, yep the best way to hose the system
peters-tx, i mean when they were running Fedora on there ps3 they came and talked on IRC
to see if it works?
or brags?
ok
elite101, yah, that'd be neat 8D
I think that are "cached files and buffered I/O"
when you do vmstat -s what does active/inactive memory say?
so .. I using 290Mb (real value with no caches)
CrocoJet, use htop instead of top if you want to more easily see your "real" used ram at a glance.
mhm well i am running Kubuntu 7.04 and im like traveling from distro to distro and i liked this one, but i was wondering what the full name of the Core7 and Desktop enviorment?
let me try ..
i dont know what to burn Xubuntu or Core7?
too much to paste in here
well, what answer do you expect in here?
elite101, try using the f7 live cd first then just install it from that
lol
i am a newb again compared to this distro but is there alot of programs to this?
just as many as most linux distros which is tons more then windows
like do u install program via package's and a package manager?
yes
okay
yum install
thats good
what was your last linux version?
well i will download and burn it
Man_at_Arms, http://rafb.net/p/b1EP8×60.html
Kubuntu 6.06.1-kubuntu7.04 DSL linux3.4 Ubuntu 6.06.1
i have all of em'
Hi. I'm trying to install F7 on a new box that I just threw together. I have a working install of F7 (that's what I'm running now) on a different box, and I was wondering if there was a way that I could throw this drive in the new box, boot from it, download the iso (or something) and install it
to the other empty drive (so that I can continue using this drive in this machine afterwards)
well ubuntu is ubuntu is ubuntu…. I think the name says it all. Its a good one size fits all distro which fedora is NOT
I don't have a cd, dvd, or usb drive available
mhm
you can copy the whole drive cant you?
f_newton, wtf
yeah seems ppl hate and like ubuntu like a standard Desktop enviorment
f_newton, fedora doesn't fit everybody?
and alot of ppl use it too
I want to install the 64 bit distro, this is 32 bit
I haven't installed Fedora. I'm installing VMWare on WIndows to run my Fedora ISO.
|DrJef|, no Fedora is a bleeding edge distro that one adjusts to fit
imho
I'm not even sure that the 32 bit can just be dropped in a 64 bit box… will it fall back to 32?
So you really have 112684 active memory
f_newton, so the fact that i know people doing massive scientific visualizations on fedora.. as well as people using it for simple web browsing..doesnt make fedora a fit all distro?
yes, the 32bit will run on the 64bit box fine.
|DrJef|, you misunderstand… ubuntu is a distro for people who like someone to tell them what they need
microsage, you're complicating things. your simplified question is 'how can i install fedora on a new box without a dvd/cd drive?" ?
microsage, yes 32bit will run on 64bit hardware
mhm its weird the ps3 in firmware 1.60-1.80 says on the menu "other os" like sony wanted ppl to have linux booted up and installed on it? i thought someone did a firmware hack on the ps3 for it to say that
sorry off-topic
f_newton, so your saying that ubuntu goes out of their way to tell users what they need?
microsage, or you don't care about the old box, and you want to do a drive transplant?
fair enough zcat
I do care about the old box
|DrJef|, ubuntu gives users a limited set of tools and a sudo control based on generalized common needs. Fedora easily allows diverse application of the distro
does alot of ppl use fedora? and is there support for Shockwave player yet
f_newton, are you saying fedora has a wider set of tools than ubuntu's package universe?
while it is possible to make ubuntu work just as diversely as Fedora it comes in a standardized way |DrJef|
elite101, ask adobe that question
out of the box fedora has more utility
how did you install the first f7 box?
yeah
f_newton, out of which box?
it sucks no shockwave
f_newton, you realize that we are on the cusp of exploding what we mean by..box
I borrowed a dvd drive, which is not currently available
a term much like "whitebox"
I know, pitiful that I have no drives
f_newton, we are going to see a lot more…spins…
it means from the default installation
f_newton, im expecting to see the desktop spin taste a lot less…free-form
microsage, what about usb? the new box should be able to boot from one for a network install.
microsage, go get a $10 1gb usb key
well thats fine with me. I got tired of trying to get the same oomph from ubuntu I get initially from fedora
uwell thats fine with me. I got tired of trying to get the same oomph from ubuntu I get initially from fedora/u
f_newton, you realize that 'default' installation means different things depending on the media you installed from
f_newton, even in f7..the default install from the livecd was different
on fedora yes, and in a very limited sense on ubuntu as well
opsec no one said flash
yes I installed from the live cd
I can get a usb key - I was just wondering if it was possible to do without - I have no car right now and can't get to the store easily
kde in fedora? lol its #8 test? is that good
and I wanted it tonight
due to my crappy connection
in order for that to happen IMO Fedora Project needs to reevaluate GPL V2 section 3
pxe install
EvilBob, la la la i cant hear you
someone saying "sux fedora has no shockwave"
EvilBob, that discussion is on my radar
right now steven colbert is making jokes about how large corporations have been editing wiki pages to make themselves look good
Good
no he said "it sucks no shockwave "
does my bios have to support a pxe install?
he didnt say fedora just it
microsage, your network card
does alot of ppl use fedora? and is there support for Shockwave player yet
? so
do*
EvilBob, for spins that exist soley of crap in fedora-space… i think there's something to be done
elite most people in here do
and not that I know of
nevermind.
happen to know the guy that did that work
yeah but i mean will someone just go to fedora linux and go to fedora and not ubuntu
what work sdodson ?
EvilBob, for spins that pull in repos from the never-never…im not sure we can do much
the live cd?
I would hope so, the others that add non free stuff should and can be on their own
the work about tracking corporate wiki editting
elite101, hmm myself i use it because it is redhat based which is the corporate standard
ahhh well pat that dude on the back for me! sdodson
job well done
f_newton, arin whois lookups on a bunch of ips…
elite101, it just works better
yeah well i need somehting based on redhat i will be making a cluster soon
elite101, maybe you need rhel or centOS
i get confused and such when someone suggest distro's because some sites say i need to Buy red-hat
elite101, Redhat has a cluster FS they can sell you
there is a tut on how to make a cluster with Red-hat 7.1 but for rite now im "distro-surrfing"
making sure the sources are available for 3 years?
Section 3 Clause B
im just on kubuntu and DSL but i wanna try more OS's
elite101, try it, and see if you like it and use what you like
http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ — there is a KDE based Fedora core 8?
core is dead
im going to download for a i586 machine 32bit
okay
Fedora 8 is not out yet
yeah it says "test"
you do not want that
uh elite101 google centOS
yeah
i will later on
zcat, I don't seem to have a pxe or network boot option in my bios… not sure if this is a result of the network card or the bios not supporting it….
i need the HW and PC's first from my school before i make a Cluster
i'm doing egrep '^sometext:[0-9]*:' but i want to return just the [0-9]* part. any ideas?
my school has 8 P3's 500Mhz
i can take off there hands all Dell optiplex's
p3s are 686
I have more than tht in my garage
microsage, well you need at least ONE way to bootstrap a machine.
lol
I have a couple of those right over here in the corner
well im 14 and money is an issue
i have about 10 at my feet
elite101, centOS is free, as is fedora but centOS is a server distro with a longer life cycle then fedora
zcat - I know. I guess I was hoping that from a running copy of fedora (the disk I'm running now) I could run anaconda and install to the other drive…
i build computers alot and using the same copy of windows xp is a hassle plus it sucks since it crashed on me and i got sick of it and decided to learn linux
f_newton, thanx i will keep that inmind
do your research before installation and save a lot of money on aspirin later
microsage, you could do it that way if you wanted. just not ideal.
what is the latest install ment on Fedora?
google is your friend elite101
yeah
f7
mhm okay
microsage, http://fedorasolved.org/installation-solutions/installing-fedora-using-pxe-images
EVERYTHING you have asked is clearly mentioned on the fedoraproject site
okay lol
its just when i googled a download site i got lost into F8 "test"
microsage, just make sure you install everything to the right disk.
sorry for being a noob and for clutering the chat
elite101, stay away from test releases
i build computers alot and using the same copy of windows xp you should not be posting that in here
yeah sorry
that is software piracy
we do NOT condone software piracy
thanks zcat, this seems to be what I've been looking for
yeah but when i goto download fedora core it opens up kate
yikes
save as] download it properly?
mhm well it was a PXE image?
i dont know what that is like i said im "not that educated"
mirror.cc.vt.edu
i will try that?
http://mirror.cc.vt.edu/pub/fedora/linux/releases/7/Live/i386/Fedora-7-KDE-Live-i686.iso
no support?
An error occurred while loading http://mirror.cc.ip6.vt.edu/:
quick ? - where did /proc/slabinfo go in F7?
VileGent, thanks
it is now downloading
686mb wow lol almost reaching the limit of a CD-R(W)
how can i automatically load the module on boot
point to it for boot
which module?
oh wait sorry
uinput
do u guys have a bot?
you can add a script for it in /etc/sysconfig/modules/
jds2001, my laptop has it
"fedbot"
i dont want to type modprobe uinput always….
peters-tx: x86_64?
jds2001, my laptop; i686
there is no bot currently.
and adding a line in /etc/modprobe.conf wont work?
ahh
no. Thats to configure how the modprobe command works, not to automatically run it.
zcat, I'm gonna give it a try, thanks for the help
rc.sysinit does look in it for a few things, but for the most part it's the wrong place.
a ok another think that ive learnt P
just adding a .sh file with the line modprobe uinput, will work?
No. .modules
Don't forget to make it executable.
anyone know of a way to run an X app, disconnect from it, and then reconnect later? like screen for X apps? without running a VNC desktop btw..
nx
ivazquez, isn't that an entire desktop however
No.
…computing…
computing!
omg did u hear on the radio
i will explain
15140
On the radio earlyer today there was a kid that his Xbox360 was heating and so he sealed it in plastic bag and dipped it in cooled water, but he forgot that it was still plugged in and his mom came home to find him unconshis (cant spell it) just to keep the 360 cool
seems old trusty darwin got interrupted by that woman
almost worthy of a darwin award
Gives new meaning to the term "dipsh*t".
looz
omg that's awesome
lol
another member for the darwin awards
well did i interupt something?
peters-tx: use nx instead of VNC =D
peters-tx: you still get a separate desktop though
seems old trusty darwin got interrupted by that woman
BULLE, still computing
???
BULLE, looks promising so far
darwin often comes and pick the not so bright people away from our world
BULLE, the ones we definitely need out of the gene pool
ohh so ur calling me "dumb"?
o_0?
well, the wierd thing is, "we" as in the human species, might actualy be better off with them, in it, all seems to point towards the conclusion that the broader the genepool the larger is the chance for species survival, over time
no!
like the 2 here that went to a shutdown foundry to steal copper and got into a 14kV line
yeah
that was a live line
ouch
"Oooh, big shiny bar of copper!" BBZBZZRRAPPP!
we have had a couple of similar things happening here, or taking a leak from a bridge, on the powerlines of a railway that passed under the bridge
ohh ur talking about the 360kid?
yes!
about the not so bright
k
i came in the wrong time
why would u stick a 360 in the water? something tells me it wasnt an accident that he was experimenting or something a did something horriable wrong and didnt use "GLAD" bags
glad ?
lol
Dont get mad get GLAD
u never heard of that brand of freezer bags?
glad means happy in my native tounge
oh yes i have
gladpack! is what its called here
ok back to fedora
yeah sorry
11% on download F7
only @ 70kbps
thanks for the status repo
rt
lol
anyone here got experience how to define a ipsec tunnel, via the network scripts in /etc ? instead of relying on the gui thingy ?
or should i just add a few lines to rc.local and ignore the system files
Read /usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/sysconfig.txt.
thanks
i'm super nerdy right now…i took apart my keyboard for deep cleaning, on my night off
BTDT
not familiar with that acronym
tw2113, that is my kind of fun!
i even broke out a spare toothbrush for part of it
i was like "eh, toothbrushes are cheap"
tw2113, so are keyboards
did you intentionally switch the keys around so somebody who can't type would be screwed if they went on your computer?
i like this keyboard
buy a black keyboard. can't see the dirt.
nah, no one but me gets on this thing
I'm very picky about keyboards, my happy hacking keyboard light died and i'm stuck with this
better to switch to dvorak but leave the qwerty layout
not bad but not great logitech right now, i need a new HHKL
i have a Compaq RT101
a real mechanical keyboard, worth keeping clean
microsoft makes (…outsources) the best keyboards.
split ergonomic ftw.
**gag**
I touch type and have to use a ton of different keyboards at work
bI touch type and have to use a ton of different keyboards at work/b
so if i spend too much time on a split keyboard i get all bunged up on
regular keyboards
my wrist are straight
all the time?
yep
I am not barrel chested enough for most ergonomic keyboards
yes barrrel bellied huh? *ducks*
I always feel ike I lhave my elbows sticking way out
still the best http://pfuca-store.stores.yahoo.net/haphackeylit1.html
where can I get libxml2?
I still want to build one of these for my desk http://steampunkworkshop.com/keyboard.shtml
yum install libxml2
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do
"nothing to do?" A: When yum reports "nothing to do" what it's really saying is that the "package may already be installed" (or it doesn't exist), so there's nothing for it to do. (ask directly: rpm -q package).
phpusmo, rpm -q libxml2
EvilBob, Brazil typewriter meets aircraft aluminum… interesting
yea, rpm -q or even yum provides will tell you what version is installed
That's *way* more work than I'd care to spend on making a keyboard…
that is cool EvilBob
yeah but I also sew quilts
lol
libxml2-2.6.16-10
so I have it?
idle hands are the devils playground
No, it's a figment of your imagination.
yikes, my F7 laptop has 515 steps for its yum update
phpusmo, uname -r
peters-tx: that is all?
brb
the whole idea with the ergonimic keyboards is that your elbows should point outward
i vaguely remember you linking to that before EvilBob
EvilBob, hmm would you expect more??
its, apparently, better for your body, dont ask me why
yeah
peters-tx: more, less, does it matter?
EvilBob, well at least it is running. I 3 yum
yum loves you right back
people who love software have deep seated emotional issues
EvilBob, your link became useful in #linuxactionshow, thanks
I've got a problem with a fresh install of FC 7. I have 3 SATA drives and an ide drive. Install is on the IDE but I get a "GRUB hard disk error" when I tried to boot for the first time. unplugging the SATA drives allowed the machine to boot. I'm not certain how to google this (haven't been
able to find anything so far).
any help would be… well helpful
#grub
…hmm, having to clean up a bunch of .rpmnew's… 8/
look in your bios for a controller boot order
guapo42, if the SATA mode in BIOS is set to IDE instead of native SATA or AHCI most BIOS give SATA boot priority
EvilBob, don't rain on my parade 8P
did that no go
quick question folks. If you have 2 PCI cards and lspci is showing the same IRQ for both, can they be considered as IRQ conflict?
will try that sounds like it's probably it
No.
defaultro, probably not; pci can share ints
ok
how come, back in 1995 when we were using ISA cards, we cannot have the same IRQ for those cards?
yea, unless it's a really old board you are okay
is it different now in PCI cards?
k
defaultro, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_Component_Interconnect
because those old boards didn't support APIC or cascading (i.e. fake) IRQs, etc..
gotcha
defaultro, look under "Interrupts"
brand new actually, first time working with SATA
oops nm
i have been battling for 24 hours now for the Ensoniq card that I installed yesterday
my mobo also has a built-in sound card but it has poor analog audio
defaultro, depending on the chipset, you might try moving your PCI cards around
the first time I installed and boot it, both sound cards showed up using cat /proc/asound/cards
disable the onboard in BIOS?
then I rebooted it, the built-in sound card disappeared. However, it still shows on lspci
i need the onboard due to spdif
i need the pci card for the analog
defaultro, can you link the motherboard to us (I'm curious)
it's a gigabyte GA-K8Ns
link what?
I bought it like Feb 2005
defaultro, http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1784
that's the one
what do you want me to do?
nforce3 chipset, meh
also as another info, I have move pci cards to different places with no success
do you want the result of lspci -vvv
defaultro, stick it on that pastebin site
another info, I have also added pci=routeirq in kernel
it just change the IRQ settings.
OK
defaultro, you are running fully updated F7 ?
http://www.nopaste.com/p/aymqlmujv
it's FC6
uhoh; FC6 not supported
Yes it is…
:
ivazquez, in here??
look at the topic
defaultro, dang
what's the prefered chipset these days?
8)
I wouldn't be asking if i were using FC5
roger
Once I remove the ensoniq, the builtin audio works again
cat /proc/asound/cards only shows ensoniq
quapo42, i have had nothing but love for Intel chipsets and Linux, well supported
defaultro, most likely it is a software config issue
defaultro, not likely anything w/ a driver or even the hardware config
defaultro, that's my gut feeling
which software?
i'd agree with peters-tx, the nforce3 issues are long solved in linux
back
what does uname -r do?
try it and see
good to know
nothing to hurt you in anyway
it'sgoing to wipe out your system phpusmo
prints your system info like kernal info
man uname if you want proof
man uname
i'd agree with peters-tx, the nforce3 issues are long solved in linux
what do you mean?
defaultro, I'll bet it is simply an issue of "configuring two sound cards in ALSA" or some such
k
defaultro, I sometimes have trouble configuring a single sound card 8D
defaultro, much less two of them
i found out with uname -r, that i have 2.6.22.1-33.fc7 for a kernel
i rmmod snd_ens1371 and snd_ens1370 and ensoniq disappear in cat /proc/asound/cards
okay I don't have lib
tw2113, dont update much do you
so, i am assuming that the modprobe of my builtin is failing
libxslt*
phpusmo, uname -r
yum install libxslt doesn't work, is there another method?
bobcb, like what i said, it shows up in lspci
so there isn't any conflict in IRQ
defaultro, http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/node4.html look under "Configure multiple sound cards"
i wait for the updates to pop up on startup, and then update using yum
what is the modprobe for the ac97?
i'll try manually executing it
yea, multiple sound cards ain't easy on many chipsets
defaultro, "Configuring multiple sound cards"
2.6.18-8.1.8.e15.028stab.039.1
phpusmo, you are not running fedora
site isn't reachable
oh
thanks, poking around in the bios did it.
hypervm said I was on fedora
wait, forgot letter l
what's the latest kernel version VileGent
tw2113, -41
Greetings..
I will try that
k
i'll look into upgrading
Might I ask a FC7 question? I'm going to assume its already been answered but I'm not finding anything..
Nope.
defaultro, remember it is not a "this is how you fix it" document, but it can give you some pointers
udefaultro, remember it is not a "this is how you fix it" document, but it can give you some pointers/u
tw2113, updateing
yes, I understand why we have to force modprobe.conf. The link makes sense. I will try it.
problem is, I forgot which module the AC97 uses
brb
I don't know what to modprobe
for the ensoniq, i know it
Hmmm didn't VileGent just point me here?
yes
no i didnt send you in circles
ah, the culprit
alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371
read fedoraos.org
that's why my builtin disappeared
you would see dont ask to ask
just ask
hey, if I get libxslt-devel will that also give me libxslt?
defaultro, you probably want to assign 0 to be the builtin, and 1 for the add-in pci one
phpusmo, you are off-topic for this channel
you are not running fedora
hypervm says I am..
defaultro, the module is "snd-ac97-codec"
defaultro, I searched all the modules for the text
I just loaded FC7 (kernel 2.6.21-1.3194). Load goes fine but then when it reboots I get "uncompressing linux…. ok, starting kernel" and it just sits there..
peters, i see that in lsmod
that means, it's loaded
all i have to do is modify modprobe.conf and depmod it again
defaultro, "depmod -a" ftw
ivazquez, geez after investing all that time you took the kick away from me
peter, http://www.nopaste.com/p/ayYIv3cieb
it's loaded. I will modify modprobe.conf now
defaultro, getting closer
Pugwhan, loaded as in installed
defaultro, bt87x — is that the ensoniq?
nope
?
defaultro, intel8×0 ?
can someon help me figure out why I cant use public ssh keys for a single user? all other users can log in fine.
imMute, file permissions 99% of the time
not sure
peters-tx: not the case
imMute, check again
8)
peters-tx: mainly because I have a custom sshd_config, that uses centralized authorized_keys files
I remember seeing the text AC97 when I execute cat /proc/asound/cards. I didn't recall seeing intel8×10
imMute, wow hmm ok
also, it works fine on another host
but I have seen intel8×0 for a long time on my system
exact same config and keys
Pugwhan, put acpi=off on the kernelline in grub
imMute, file permissions on the client
peters-tx: client hasnt changed (putty + pageant)
Hmm
many thanks.. I'll give it a try.. brb
i dunno VileGent, i did yum install kernel and it says -41 is already installed
imMute, did you check the system's logs
tw2113, rpm -q kernel
yup, shows up
tw2113, so you havent rebooted in a month
peter, this is good info. I kept the result of aplay -l 2 days ago. http://www.nopaste.com/p/a79qTVg7V
yes i have, it's just not showing up in grub
peters-tx: i checked /var/log/secure, nothing interesting
remove it and reinstall
I was wrong. Maybe, I saw Nvidia AC97 in cat /proc/interrupts
anyone wanna help a child smile and send some HW over to me via FEDEX?
and the client just says that the server rejected the key - I even checked the auth_keys file and its correct
peter, what could that be?
imMute, and /var/log/messages?
elite101, sure my son would love for you to send him more hardware
Could it be the intel8×0?
peters-tx: nothing
defaultro, the nVidia stuff is still the built-in
actually i think i might know why….i use Debian's grub
defaultro, look at /proc/devices
imMute, hmm
imMute, perhaps putty has a way of restricing logins based on happiness of the files like ssh does; have you checked that
here peters-tx, http://www.nopaste.com/p/axjPwlHRF
imMute, also, see if there's any EventLogs for putty spewing
peters-tx: "happiness" ? the event log just says that the server rejected the key
defaultro, "modprobe snd-ens1371"
that is loaded
that;s for the ensoniq. I don't have issues with that
is it possible to restore grub from CLI or do I have to go from the install CD?
defaultro, ls -la /dev/dsp*
3
imMute, wow err that's really quite an advanced problem. have you tried a F7 box w/ this "broken key" to see if it works from a known-good-unix-install ?
peters-tx: it does. the other 3 servers use the exact same setup
i saw 2 dsp devices the first time I booted it yesterday. But the next reboot, the builtin audio went away
maybe, something modified the modprobe.conf
imMute, perhaps the ssh server is rejecting the client based on a reverse lookup
defaultro, send up your .conf btw
peters-tx: probably not
http://www.nopaste.com/p/a1Ob6GV5w
tw2113, yes you can edit grub.conf
imMute, so the other windows clients are using the *exact* same config with the *exact* same key?
if you see, only one snd card is there and it points to the pci card
i also see snd intel8×0 there, could that be the builtin audio board?
literally the only thing that changed was the hardware.
Hey guys, I have a question about the isos available to download, I'm looking to get something DVD sized which contains just enough to do a @base kickstart
software is exactly the same version
boot.iso its 7 MB
are these instructions http://fedoranews.org/blog/?p=650 still kosher ?
BAM!!!!!!
defaultro, simple
defaultro, alias snd-card-0 snd-snd-intel8×0
I snd_intel8×0
i rmmod it
defaultro, alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1371
then modprobe it
yes, that's what Im going to do now
that can't do a base install though can it? unfortunately these guys refuse to allow network installs for …. a 'good' reason
