kexec is still a "reboot". it just bypasses your BIOS by loading the requisite information from the running kernel. You can't "hot-swap" kernels

nice package manager (portage) and it gives you the ability to choose features for every package you install using USE-flags, as every package is compiled, however there are some binary packages for larger apps like firefox and openoffice

When I booted up my system today (~AMD64) I got an error about it being unable to mount my NFS file system with a bad FS type… error. I fired up strace and found that it was trying to stat /sbin/mount.nfs (which does not exist). Can anyone help?

The livecd is just a platform to install from. What works with the livecd isn't representative of what works on Gentoo (a much wider range of hardware can be configured on a properly installed Gentoo system)
