look at bio.module.

thank you, I'll look into it
is there a list of the capalities of core-i18n for D6?
seen drumm
drumm was last seen in #drupal-dev 1 week 3 days ago saying 'we probably are too'.
I'm not aware of one
I guess there should be one.
yes
especially for the upcoming string freeze. To generate some excitement.
I think Gabor wrote one some time ago
think it's on the development seed blog
or, it's not really a pure feature list, but contains valuable information: http://www.developmentseed.org/blog/internationalization/comparison_chart
Hi all
excellent, just what I was looking for.

got a link that says that cc-by-sa and gpl are incompatible?
doesn't matter, does it?
no, not really, nbut it would help
"why we don't host gpl compatible third party libraries" handbook page, right?

I wanted a link that explains why GPL and CC are incompatible since he seems to believ they are.
yeah, that.
but he's also wrong.
What a bizarre email to the webmasters list… He seems to be talking to you, killes…
Guess you lostlostlost?
yeah, he seems to be…
Oooooh… I think I just remembered who he is. I think that's the dude that sent his passwords to the list the other day and you told him to change them
It sounds like he's not happy being told to use the support link
this seems to be some kind of really confused company.
even under the .de domain all their content is in Italian..
LOL
And he asked if you speak French
sent him to drupalitalia.org
Well, my 3 years of French in HS helped a lot with learning Spanish in college. They're pretty similar
killes - Good idea
indeed, you can grasp a lot of the meaning if you know another romanic language
and in fact, french also helped me learning english
Funny thing… I read Romanian once without knowing what language I was reading.
Was on a forum post… I realized I knew what it said and asked what language it was and they said Romanian. LOL
heh, we had a Romanian in our french course, and he permanently used words that exist in romanian but not in french
since a lot of the words are the same or very similar
I had that problem in Spanish class… Sometimes used French words
The sad thing is that, in the decade since then, I've forgotten pretty much all of both languages
that bluehost one is yours.
bah
mailman is dumb
I think we need more verbage on the contact page. "Problems with this website. That is, drupal.org. Unless your website is drupal.org, please direct your support requests elsewhere"
the default action in forms is cancel
instead of submit
Ooooh, I hate mailman with a passion
be my guest.
I only use it because that's all site5 has for mailing lists
that's not the first time I hit cancel by accident
Hehe. I think I'd be ruder than we want on that page
I've chaned it once and provoked an outcry for being unfriendly…
but people are apparently not reading that page…
I think we need a "do you really want to send mail to the webmasters?" confirmation step…
Yeah… Especially the note about the search not being available (which could be taken out now…)
That woudl be nice. But that woudl require hackng the module, wouldn't it?
Jeez, I can't type today
alternatively, we make it a policy that such misguided mails are not to be answered, other then by the auto-reply that mailman can send.
Can the text "Problems with this website" be changed to "Problems with the drupal.org site"?
we could put that hack into drupalorg.module that Crell wants to create. .p
sure
That might help a little… Make it clearer which website the problems are for. Probably not a lot, though
The real issue is that people just want to click contact and get personal support
And that's just not going to happen
this Drupal product doesn't offer support?
right, these kind of people…
we should have another selection "answer smy stupid question for EUR 500 donation towards the drupal association". :p
killes - I answered teh bluehost one and CC"d the list but it probably won't make it there since Charter is stupid
LOL
Ok, time to get the boys ready for the day.

hey there!
how you doing ?? long time

got a new version of the patch to test on s.d.o: http://drupal.org/node/165380#comment-291375
I'm good, how about you?

yeah, been busy with building search engine for our sites. now thats done i can get back to some drupalling
have you been able to add audio for you dojo lesson on PSD to drupal theme lesson ?
nope
so is that an abandon project altogether ??
I think so
done
ohhh, i was looking forward to it
i meant *working together in the same company* not *working together on images* (yet)
any more lesson on themeing ?? or are you waiting for D6 to come out first ?
yeah, I'll wait
D6 has a bunch of theming improvements
sounds good
how much improvement has themeing gone through in D6 ?? is it as simple as just applying CSS and changing the look -n- feel ?
yup
sweet. so no more phptemplate engine hacking required right ??
no
zengine will fade away
zen might as well
wow, cant wait for that. Need to thank you and Earl for all the advances in it
not me
dvessel and merlinofchaos
it's really nifty from what i saw
may someone help about this patch? http://drupal.org/node/165957#comment-291562

has anyone been able to setup a SMS gateway and use drupal to deliver content through it ?
dunno
someone on SOC has been working on it
for addition in D6 ?
try to neer get elected to the association, the crap that webchick gets to answer is even worse. :p
no
smsgateway is pretty straight-forward. that's been around for quite while

can I ask a Filtered HTML question here since drupal-support seems to be dead?
i have never tried it so i wasnt sure if it was implement in drupal. thanks

If someone doesn't answer in #drupal-support it doesn't mean you have license to be off topic in #drupal. Your next avenue for support is the Drupal forums (http://drupal.org/forum). Please respect the channel topic.
lol
what a wonderful morning it is
guess i have my answer
I used Clickatell for a gateway. still haven't used up my initial credit
you can shoot sms through it for free?
nice
don't know, I wasn't looking for free sms at the time
I finally got D6 installed the other night. I had to put php.index in my http.conf file. Shouldn't D6 .htaccess done this ?
will clickatell allow incomming messages to interact with your website?
like post a short blog?
who do you think you are to ping me with a support question?
I can't remember you hiring me to set up your Apache correctly.
I believe so. but… I never used it. Clickatell is one of the first gateway providers but.
I want to set up something where a user can sms a short blog post
do you incur much traffic ??
nah. basically, I think the sms cost are under 10c.
maybe that's not so cheap. been a while
i was going to say so, if you have a news service and want to inform all your subscribers through sms that its available on the website, it can get expensive if u have 1000+ subscribers and 10c per subscriber per story
6 cents each it looks like
yes, this is true.
had last week and you said it was a setup problem on my end. This was not a support question.

No, you shouldn't kick.

I understand. I was testing D6 and never had this issue with previous releases. I will post all future issues I find with D6 in #drupal-support.
if you are lucky this continues for 3 months. :p
I bet. how is Karlijn feeling?
zamboni9, or the issue queue even
I don't think I said that. I think I said that we can't debug Apache issues.
But yes, the issue queue is the place.

Handiest patch I've ever written. But also ugliest.

why does ie have two rendering modes :/
could be more than 3 deep?
(the backtrace)
Oh yes, a backtrace can be dozens of levels deep. But if it's exactly 3, that means it was db_query being called.
Or does in my tests anyway.
alrite guys, catch you'll later
It's explained in the comments how the calling chain goes.
yes- just trying to understand of the db_query() call could be deeper than 3
(if)
I don't think so, because db_query always calls _db_query, which (if there's an error) will call trigger_error, which invokes drupal_error_handler.
But it is very possible that this calling chain could change between drupal web host versions.
I just don't know that it's worth a constant for this.
which was kbahey's suggestion
is it possible to clone twitter in drupal?
support?
Please direct support questions to the volunteers in #drupal-support or on the Drupal forums. #drupal is a place to discuss and help with code, advocacy, documentation, infrastructure, and pretty much everything else.
so the cruftiness is the hardcoding of 3? could db_query itself have an error handler?
for D5/D6, I think you're code is pretty much fine, as long as there isn't an edge case where it will fail. The right way to do it will take a lot more effort, and when we go to PHP5, should be written with try/catch anyway.
Well. The cruftiness is two-fold: 1) we're doing a debug_backtrace for every single trigger error, regardless if it's called by db_query or not, and b) it's a hard-coded index which could change later on.
that's fair.
What would be neat is, if this patch gets in, you would have the entire stack trace in a variable.
So you could conceivably global $debug_backtrace and print it out somewhere.
I noticed some weird code in _db_query that seems to try and do this.
And originally, I added the info to _db_query, but then the error message becomes like..
Column count doesn't match value count at row 1 query: INSERT INTO blocks (visibility, pages, custom, title, module, theme, status, weight, delta, cache) VALUES(0, '', 0, 'dfsdf', 'block', 'garland', 0, 0, 13) in /Users/webchick/Sites/head/modules/block/block.admin.inc on line 265 in
/Users/webchick/Sites/head/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 157.
which is a bit…eek.
Can someone please tell me what is the name of the core registration form, because I cant seem to find it
I think the code in _db_query is what is used by Devel module to time queries
the way to figure that out is to make a hook_form_alter in your module, and drupal_set_message($form_id);
then visit the page and it'll tell you the name of the form.
I didnt quite understood it. What has my module to do with the core forms?
can you call this backtrack only for db errors?
good point about backtrace being called on every trigger error. I wonder how many of those kinds of errors there are. Personally, I would want to pay the cost of a backtrace and get good error messages anytime an error occurred which resulted in improper operation. Failed SQL because of SQL
syntax errors definitely falls into that category. Data which should have been…
….returned or altered in the web hosting with database services didn't get returned/altered, so it's a fatal error.
no, because they're just a 'user warning' class. no way to differentiate them from other errors until I backtrace to find out what it was.
Yes, merlinofchaos == Earl
I could try and add another class 'query failure' or something, but the numbers are very binary on those errors.
or perhaps the backtrace could be suppressed if errors are not going to the screen?
Hm. Maybe. Although even if they're being written to the log, it's still useful to know where they occurred.
congrats!
any idea whether set_error_handler is an expensive function?
it's a PHP built-in function, afaik, so should be pretty fast.
just wondering if db_query() could call set_error_handler() then restore_error_handler()?
Hm. That's an idea.So set_error_handler in _db_query to a different .. yes!
That's a great idea!
Thanks! LD
er
Where should you put the hook_form_alter, in the template.php?
no, in some custom module on your site. Actually you can cheat and go into any module that does a hook_form_alter and temporarily throw that line in there.
well you get more credit for the backtrace idea itself
but if you're more on the theming side of things, it might be easier for you to just view source on the page and look for the form ID.
I want to manage to add some textfields in the basic registration form, but I cant seem to manage it
The fieldset on this page should be collapsible, but isn't:
you can also use hook_user('register')
http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/52
What gives?
if that's all you want to do, why not just use profile module?
what?
loaded from the database
That is true.
killes, the categories box doesn't collecpse sometimes, and the text is not clickable to collapse it.
ah, yes, i see.
might be a problem with the caching I added.
I just clicked through to page 2 in that category and now it is collapsible.
ping
how do I use the hook_user(''register) ?
hook_form_alter is probably better, but see: http://api.drupal.org/api/function/hook_user/5
Yes, I browsed the api, but it looks a little confusing
this module of mine adds fields to the registration form: http://cvs.drupal.org/viewvc.py/drupal/contributions/modules/og_mandatory_group/
see: function og_mandatory_group_form_alter($form_id, &$form)
ok, thank you very much
note that this is altering what's already added by the OG module, so you may want to look at OG also as an example.
ping
anyone whose used multisite mind helping me down in -support?
What do you mean already added by the OG module?
the form that function pwolanin pasted is from the OG module
so to see exactly what is happening it might be good idea to see the form in action basicaly
no - my module depends on the OG module.
http://cvs.drupal.org/viewvc.py/drupal/contributions/modules/og/og.module?revision=1.342.2.3&view=markup&pathrev=DRUPAL-5–2
function og_user which uses the 'register' op to add fields initialy to the registration form
ok
so basically because of carry over from the pre-FAPI days, there are 2 methds to add fields to this form
both work, and looking at those 2 modules gives you an example of each.
Thank you so much, it works!
So now, I have to alter somehow the submit function, in order to get the newly created textfields
?
you can add a submit function - or use hook_user again
hook_user('insert')
ok, I'll look into it
both those modules use the hook_user method
does anyone know where to find any theme_pager examples?
how do I turn dates (from nodes) that I pull from the database back into viewable dates?

i'm trying to make up my mind on the 0's. i had them as blanks before but webchick wanted zeros
now i'm kind of thinking they make it harder to read
Hee. Well, I have the advantage that I can do Views pretty much however I want, so long as it works. I suppose if it stops working then we'll end up with an ugly situation
drewish, that's nice.
indeed
and it certainly makes your "I'm happy with contrib" statement make even more sense
I assume you've seen http://scratch.drupal.org/project-usage?sort=desc&order=Aug+12 ?
5 digits, it starts to get easy for the human eye to lose track of how many digits. (i.e, 1000 = 1,000)
there's still some bugs in it. maybe merlinofchaos can tell me why the update_status stats are so wierd: http://scratch.drupal.org/node/122616/usage
Yea, was just looking at it.
you have to assume update_status will always be at the top given the way we get the data…
and then at number 2: views
Yep. The thing is, it seems like update_status should match Drupal.
no, becuase update.module will be added in too
Oh ok.
but look at the update_status page… compare the project usage to the release usage… 9 vs 2689… something's wierd
http://drupal.org/node/165380#comment-291598

However, I think the answer is that 5.x-rc2 is missing from teh list
And that's where most of the installations are
http://drupal.org/node/165380#comment-291598 has my current list of theories…
Project, Usage statistics, normal, patch (code needs review), 15 IRC mentions
ahhh, that's probably it
because this has a week old copy of d.o's db with recent dump of the project_usage_* tables…
Is scratch just behind on that?
Yea.
so the release nodes won't match up
a module , which wants to be 1.0 beta for Drupal 5 core , it's DRUPAL-5–1-0-BETA ?
Yes
cool well now i just need to get this on d.o
thanks
We're so going to want to update the project front page.
for what?
oh the module browsing page?
Yea, when browsing a single project.
oh, well the usage shows up on a tab
It does.
Usage stats aren't the only reason the project presentation page needs help, though.
dww's talking about trying to move the release stuff over to that as well
your feedback on http://drupal.org/node/168009 would be much appreciated it. i think it's going to be come an issue as we start to make the usage data more visible to users on d.o
Project, Usage statistics, normal, patch (code needs review), 4 IRC mentions
hi all
i am about to have a little sleep but an idea , here. I do not know how usage report works, but if it's somewhat constant , repeated from time to time (to signal its still in use) then we can just throw away the first few weeks, much harder to counterfeit
I have a stupid question, what is the best way to store information from a form in a database
merlinofchaos:
function seed(&$view, &$data) {
$this-view = &$view;
$this-data = &$data;
try #drupal-support
you implement a hook_submit($form_id,$form_values);
Is this needed…? Objects… references… PHP5? Or this is PHP4, ah well.
yeah, i think i'd put that down as a possiblity, i think the only drawback would be that we probably won't be keeping the raw daily data for too long because it's in such volume…
no, no, coding belongs here.
fapi?
fapi is http://api.drupal.org/api/5/file/developer/topics/forms_api_reference.html
fair call. i just assumed s/he's talking about webform
or some such. I'm taking it in support anyway
webform?
The webform.module can be found at http://drupal.org/project/webform
isn't that deprecated by cck+actions ?
"or some such"
Can we please disabled Drupal.org's search?
ohh don't say that around quicksketch
I thought quicksketch recommended it as deprecated
he's not maintaining it, anyway
the one part of webform that can't be reproduced is "don't view the results of your submission".
that requires a node access of some sort.
privacy module
or a small fork of it
greggles, he has the most commits and has been working on it recently
and a smidge of custom code
so while maybe not "official" he is essentially the maintaner
Some people may prefer to avoid cck and/or actions, if they are not really needed. same with views, by the way. they're all very general, heavy solutions if one has a specific problem that is solved by a small, niche module.
node_privacy_byrole?
sure
what happens after the user has submitted the node? does he just see a access denied message?
nodegoto can fix that
I have a question about licensed code.
I get that sometimes it's easier to use webform instead of cck+actions+nodeaccessmodule+nodegoto
so, i need four modules to duplicate the one? i'm not sure if that's entirely useful.
Does http://drupal.org/node/66113 include not including LGPL code?
3 IRC mentions
just makes upgrading a thousand times difficult.
but also, how sure are you that webform will be upgraded to D6 quickly?
me? not very confident
sure, but no more sure than the less modules in any chain.
*lesser
And does including an LGPL php webhosting class within a .module file count as including a nan-GPL library?
such as nodegoto and anyaccessmodule
(Okay, so two questsions.)
if the license that code is under allows it to be relicensed as GPL then, when committing, you are effectively licensing it under GPL
Okay. More research, then.
hrm. nodegoto works on every node type, it looks.
i'm only being annoying cos someone just asked me for the same feature request elsewhere
but you should only commit the code to our cvs if 1) it's not available in that form/easily from elsewhere 2) it can relicensed as gpl
I think nodegoto works on a per node basis
per node type basis
yeah ,i'm looking in the code now.
screenshot was hard to tell.
greggles, it was commited by someone else, and before I raise the red flag, I want to get my facts straight.
link?
yeah, it's per node type.
greggles, to the code?
yeah
which part?
ah, the class
we can just ask killes
since it's his "job"
Okay. There's actually two classes included.
By two different authors, but both are LGPL.
// Copyright (C) 2001 - 2003 Brent R. Matzelle
my belief is that 1) the code is forked and is therefore not easily available from elsewhere 2) LGPL licensed which allows it to be relicensed to GPL by the person committing it to the drupal.org repository
that screams at me "don't use"
you can copyright code under the *GPL
yeah, GPL relies on copyright law
no?
i dunno. i'm just inputting my two cents. i don't care g
the dates
from a security standpoint, you mean?
yep
oh - different issue
aye
seen wundo?
wundo was last seen in #drupal 13 hours 49 min ago saying 'greggles, I'm explaing my reasons in the issue '.
CVS log messages were broken for about the last, er, 18 hours or so. they have been fixed
at this point i think we've lost those commits in our cvs module commit logs
but i'm guessing that we can recover them
You know, there's this edit_authoring_info module.
Which lets people with 'edit author' and 'edit date authored' permissions do that, without requiring 'administer nodes' permissions.
It's ludicrous to me that this module isn't simply a matter of $form['author']['name']['#access'] = user_access('edit author') and $form['author']['date']['#access'] = user_access('edit date authored')
instead, there's all this crufty-assed code in node.module that doesn't respect the field's access permissions.
So you have to do this lame-ass crap of like re-creating the structure and faking it.
Grrr!
Yea.
There's a lot of leftover protective code from before the fapi was trustworthy.
Lots of that could be just removed.
you make admin/user/access easier to navigate and you can get the umpteen new permissions this will cause.
Hm? No, I've no problem with core limiting access to those fields by administer nodes perm.
That makes sense for core to do.
But I mean that it ought to be like a 4-line module to change that in contrib.
Not a 100-line module.
ah!
yeah, I agree
k, well the authoring field works.
I guess it's the date field that needs help.
I tried to get hunmonk to make admin/user/access easier to navigate but he wasn't able to get it working
watchdog?
http://api.drupal.org/api/5/function/watchdog
*g*
if we had sortable tables…
sortable by dragging the columns around.
I have sortable tables but not by dragging.
Dragging is kind rough. Doable, but kind of rough.
well, dragging isn't neccessary
that'd be cool
I'd just like to order the roles from most to least access.
aww man that'd be neat!
we could even do that automatically.
Well. This plan chx and I had was totally not table based. It was the classic "Two select boxes" with arrows; you select the role and you add/remove permissions from the role.
interesting.
Is there a list of valid values for the $type variable of the watchdog function?
I actually like the table becuase it enables you to compare which role has which permissions easily
5 or 6?
but when you have more than say 4 roles, this get tedious.
5
I thought the $type was up to your module
5 is WATCHDOG_NOTICE, WATCHDOG_WARNING, WATCHDOG_ERROR
those are severities, not types
6 has 7 values
oh
Yeah.
types are error and status
watchdog:HEAD?
http://api.drupal.org/api/HEAD/function/watchdog
ping?
greggles, okay. I noticed the theming was different, so I thought there was a set list somewhere with an other option.
types are things like "access denied" "content" "gsitemap" etc.
oh!
lol
that can be anything
right
have you used your fancy usb headphones on your linux box?
pong
I think I found it… $view has tons of cool stuff in it… btw I'm in Sacramento
greggles, no i've not used the secure linux web hosting box for day to day stuff for awhile
it is still packed up
ah
due to house mess
hope to know do we still have chance to support other database within D6? e.g. Oracle and DB2?
4 roles, generally roles 4 and beyond have only a couple of permissions on them.
The bulk of your permission fields are going to go onto: anonymous, authenticated and administrator. You might have a 4th role for a sort of high level user. Everything beyond that is likely to be a specialty thing.
does $view happen to keep track of the total number of nodes that qualify for the view?
No
:-(
If you're using the pager view you can dig it out of the pager info

wow
ok, well that will have to wait for another day, this is so quick and dirty anyway, but I appreciate it
long dinner
seen eaton?
yeah. It's "The part of core that doesn't ship with core"'.
specialty or not, it makes the table hard to read, especially, if they are between the more used roles.
does it keep track of the number of pages? or will I have to dig that out of the pager view as well?
thanks for the jungledisk idea, it didn't work out though. JD only works on 32bit machines. :p
nvm, I found it

bacecake?
is there an admin in the house that can add my affordable blogging to Drupal Planet?
garsh…

killes, okay… well that solution no workie… maybe there is reason for me to continue on fileapi…
greggles, oh yeah, hahaha
greggles, have you seen or heard about any cron errors w/pathauto in the latest beta releases?
my client also decided to not pursue this for now, so I can't offer help. ;(
pathauto doesn't do anything on cron - so that would be surprising
Okay.
but, if you use something that creates nodes, users, taxonomy during cron then yes, yes that is very likely
killes, no worries…
I haven't had any time to do anything more than cursory glance, so I wan't sure.
creates OR edits nodes/users/taxonomy during cron
since pathauto then has to create/update paths during cron then, and since the arrays/objects often are in an odd format during a cron run
token can't parse the data and then pathauto barfs
there are issues for it, but if you find more specifically what's causing the problem I'd love to know
Okay. I'll have to spend some time digging into it.
these 2 patches are required by Oracle and DB2 driver, for overcoming database specific limitation. may someone help about their review?

how can I call a specific block?
http://beta.information.dk/
Do you know which modules are used to display nodes content like that ,
?
it's probably just themeing
no special module
Bob_le_Pointu, you could use views and panels to do something like that
what block?
am I a liar if I say that the usage stuff will be shown on the project homepage?
it'll be on a tab
or really, that many/all of your metrics will be
ok
Views and panels, thank.
I feel like people are unlikely to look at a tab - is there an issue where you're discussing this idea?
i think i'd have a hard time arguing to get metrics on d.o right now. once the db situation settles down i think i'll be easer to add the load it'll create.
sure
i'm not really that worried about it, i don't really want them to be used as a popularity tool. my goal with it is to help maintainers get a better feel for who's using their modules
http://drupal.org/node/165380.
Project, Usage statistics, normal, patch (code needs review), 17 IRC mentions
^^^^
I can see that for the usage statistics - but for the metrics as a whole isn't a big part of the motivation that casual users will be able to quickly/easily judge the relative quality of a module?
wouldn't it be cool to declare menus in the menu sys just like forms?
oh, metrics would be in a block that would show up on the node page
ok, yes, great
useage and metrics are two separate projects. the db situation changed my focus… that and the usage is the factor in the metrics everyone wanted to see the most
oh
they seem linked, but I guess I understand how they are different
btw folks, jcfiala is our latest hire and is a great programmer who is new to drupal so be nice

When checked, this tells the filter to inherit default settings from the extra configuration (Value) that was done for this filter in the Filters fieldset.
I'm trying to describe what the Filter settings Default checkbox in Exposed Filters does.
Anyone have comments about the accuracy of my statement?
I think that's it
pm
Uh. So it's trying to say that if you check that box, whatever you set the filter to in the UI will be the default for that filter when you visit the view.
If you don't check it, the default will be unset.
squish
:P why can't Views be EASY???
dmitrig01, it's a module specific block
folks, could use some help
plz talk to chx about the food in Bonn
Sorry
what's the module name
w/ a project module survey
easy question
Sorry. The exposed filters were kind of hacked in and I was never truly happy with them.
what new feature would you like to see most in drupal's project/issue/release system??
It'll be much better in Views 2, I hope
project module should do per-project docs. kthxbye
it's the value filed from the Filters, though, right?
dmitrig01, casetracker
s/filed/field/
then call theme('block', casetracker_block(…))
dmitrig01, thanks.
e.g. theme('block', casetracker_block('view', 1))
I look forward to taking you on a culinary tour of my town. When are you coming to Germany?
views 2 I can't get the menu items to work
I think the two biggest features in my mind are followups-as-comments and speed
ifac is done
afaik, project modules listing pages are slow
it just needs an upgrade path
done but not committed, correct?
yes
"done but not" == !"done"
followups as comments are imminent
great
after that, performance optimization
after that…making the "license" field optional so that we don't have module developers on d.o who link to other licenses
no
remove it and auto-link it to d.o's LICENSE.txt
i need big suggestions
so, it should be configurable whether it's per project or sitewide
this is for a survey question
you can add that to drupalorg.module :p
"assign to other users" permission ?
oh, yeah
thx
auto-assign on status change
let's not forget "view/submit issues/followups via email"
require certain fields at certain states (and make that work with cck so that cck fields can become required at a specific status)
yeah, subscribe without posting a followup
got that one
you're just bragging
gusaus|beach
hehe
does my "require field at status level" make sense?
hi guys, i'm trying to write a simple module that creates a new node type. can the module and the node have the same name? or do they have to be different? (that is, can the 'hook' be named the same?)
like maybe you have a "resolution action" field which you can't fill in until the item is "fixed"
no. can you clarify, and possibly rephrase as a survey question?
dependencies on other issues and graphs of dependencies
not really in a position to travel the world like you, but at least it's a short drive out to malibu
oooh
who is the audience of the survey?
give it a try
anybody who uses project module on d.o
on d.o or on their own site?
d.o
i'd like to keep it focused there
for now
in that case I'm not sure I see a use case for my "require a field to be entered only when a project reaches a certain status" feature
ok. my other question is, i'm looking at the node_example and it's referencing a $form array that hasn't been declared in my file–where does that variable come from?

dmitrig01, I am using theme('block', casetracker_block('view', 1), I have tried various values in the number argument there, it is not displaying, I am assuming the number is the delta value, the blocks work but I am trying to display them on a page view, and it's not working
i think that should appear as part of the default issue views, yes?
hi
more pics ?
not yet
and, what are you doing in #drupal ?
LOL
I thought you have…. hmmm, other axels to grind
yeah, prolly.
axles, whatevre.
can you take care of that?
if you tell me where to look for that setting….
i was hoping you would know…
Yes, it's the value field from the filters. And I have no idea when I'm getting to Germany next. Porbably the next time a DrupalCon is there.
pong?
the menus aren't working for me
killes chx I'm at work but drupal.org/project/thisshouldntbe

All that exists are some tests

LOL awesome. Sony BMG's IP is getting blocked @ drupal.org.
How apt.
then pass on a smacking for me and osuosl
hey, the other day, Dries' ip address host was blocked too
as was mine, but one click and I was in
which IP?
looks like 12.11.224.4
according to whatismyip.com
but it's weird.
drupal.org/project/issues/user worked fine
it was only hitting the front page that I got it.
Or does it only put that page up randomly?
no
it should all the time.
but I am guessing it does not if there is a timeout in querying the DNS.
the problem was this update was done as he was running out the door for his trip. i think we need a policy that no upgrades should be done unless you have X amount of time afterwards to handle fallout
i'll talk w/ him about it when he gets back
that's a good idea
the other funny thing is earlier today I hit the front page fine. But it
it's not good. it's brilliant
yeah
's possible my ip has changed since then
essentially a brief 'change control' policy even if it's likited to notifications to infrastrucutre list
limited

dww and i will draft a spec when he returns
can you post an infra issue to that effect pls?
oh great, thanks!
if not, I can draft an initial and sent to infra list as a starter too
sure.
seems that some virused computer was in that network
is there somewhere i can see a list of the standard types that can be used when making a node?
what I find strane is that it is blocked by my script
admin/project/project-issue-status
then check 'In default queries'
tested, and that's definitely the settings
done

AH!
are we going to add these to 6.0 core? esp. Deco?
why aren't themes required to have a screen shot
I think they need much, much more extensive testing first.
Unconed kind of dropped out around midterms.
sucks
168972
We don't currently attach screenshots in a useful way.
ooooo!!
I would ditch the categories block.
else move it far lower.
Nice, merlinofchaos
+1 on ditching it
err merlinofchaos +1 on ditching the categories block
Hmm. Yea, I'm a bit iffy on it, but I do think it's a really good idea to promote what categories this project belongs to a bit beyond the taxonomy terms.
looks great
I love deco, how ’bout you?
But it's not amongst the most important blocks there.
why do you think Iasked for core inclusion?
the only downside to all the blocks is the admistration of them
no idea
Blocks can be automatically enabled by the module.
I'd love for it to be in
A block is a bit much if there's only one category… Maybe put something highlighted in the node itself for categories?
that's fine, but it definitely should not take priority over any of the other blocks on that page.esp. support should be "above the fold"
So we can just assume they go into the left sidebar and administrators can move them if their setup is different.
i know, did that in metrics.module
And yeah, I forgot about that.
mmmm!
It's sub-optimal for them to be blocks
yummy.
I also posted a comment on that node you sent me last night — http://groups.drupal.org/node/5649#comment-16445
3 IRC mentions
Because that means in order for people to install project module and go…
they have to enable …. at leasst 3 blocks, it looks like.
thank you!!
merlinofchaos's point about auto enabling does mitigate some of this
have you seen the deco theme?
in every theme..?
heh heh heh.
nope
Yes, blocks are somewhat sub optimal; however, faking blocks was worse (my first mockup faked the blocks and with d.o layout it looks really weird)
what about something like our ?q=admin ?
please paste me the urls, that's faster
of course, http://drupal.org/files/issues/project_165380_15.patch
Those are generally set to be half-size blocks, so they'll make the blocks too big, I think.
er, half-content-width
I don't know if auto-enabling blocks does it in every theme, but it probably does not.
It does not.
So you'd need to write custom code to do so.
And when they install a new theme after enabling project module, of course this wouldn't be there.
etc.etc.
unfortunate, but true.
blocks simply won't work.
I don't think that's a big deal, either. project.module sees fairly limited usage. I think it's an acceptable hurdle.
well true.
I effing hate devel module for that though.
hehe
Unless it auto-enables the block by now.
but if it was easier for a wide audience to use…
It does
I think Isubmitted a patch for that at some point.
and OG module too.
Tho it's not working in D6 right now
patching file D:/drupal/do/sites/all/modules/project/usage/project_usage.css
GOOD point!
???
i guess TortoiseCVS doesn't know how to add files correctly…
Well. I'd rather not use that as an excuse not to use an effective presentation on drupal.org
We could simply add a series of checkboxes to display each of those items in the block or as part of the main content
i hear ya, but it will further doom project module to d.o use only
ok, fixed that
which does no good for it to help be maintained by the community
thanks
I'll be back in an hour
thanks
One upside about blocks vs nodes is that blocks are cacheable for authenticated users. Nodes aren't, or at least they aren't without a lot of acrobatics….
I don't think these blocks would be very cacheable since they're going to have content based upon the node they're viewed with
I'm making theme from the Garland files. It has theme('links', $primary_links…) for the primary links and prints out the links in a list. I want it to print out the links in adjacent spans … how would one go about printing out each link in the array upon the screen? Do I have to use theme?
api.drupal.org didn't help me much
Ah. Well. Depending on how dynamic the content is you still might be able to cache them on a time-elapsed basis. At least assuming that feature makes it in.
if they must be blocks, what about instead of 3 separate blocks, do "support"and "contributors" or something
Any thoughts on this? It's something you've weighed in on before.
http://scratch.drupal.org/project-usage?sort=desc&order=Aug+12
Support, development and manage could easily be merged into 1 block using headers
Yes!
Or that!
So that'd reduce it to the primary info block, the screenshot (which is actually a new feature, the only one here) and then the 'links' block.
Though I prefer the look of multiple blocks there.
What am I looking at?
That I haven't already seen, that is?
sorry, the formatting has been fixed based on your comments
OH!!
Excellent! I looked right past it. But it makes a huge difference
yeah, it really does
So natural I didn't see it
now i want to weasle this onto d.o
Hello all, does anyone know if its possible to package a Drupal theme inside a module? (ie: a module that packs it's own theme)
You can but your user will have to move it into the themes directory.
Ahh, that's what I figured. Thanks
well, back to my paying job… later
bah… sooo… I'm working on a hook_form_alter to modify a cck node form… But $form isn't returning $form['taxonomy'], in fact it's not showing up anywhere… but 'magically' appears on the form. Ideas?
increase your module weight
oh
db_query("UPDATE {system} SET weight = 10 WHERE name = 'modle'");
heh.
I thought about trying that.. and then came here instead
hrm
that didn't work
still not returning taxonomy
what's the sql hosting command you ran?
to update weight?
y
SELECT weight FROM system WHERE name='taxonomy'
update system set weight = 0 where name = 'clinton' AND type = 'module'; update system set weight = 2 where name = 'taxonomy' and type = 'module';
I would like to see the bittorrent module on drupal.org to help with conference videos.
clinton = module not giving me $form['taxonomy']
nah
you want clinton to have weight 2 and taxonomy 0
I thought system processed modules with higher weight first?
er, lower
yes
so you want yours after taxonomy adds it's magic
oh wait
no
you're right
I want taxonomy weight module weight
weight = 0 for tax, weight = 10 for clinton worked

It was… thought perhaps it died when setting a key to an int
it's an ugly mashup atm
nah keys can be ints

does sending utf-8 emails from drupal actually work? some folks are seeing a garbled euro sign
even when $i is an int
i was wondering if msg body should be base64 encoded or something
no it should not
ask people which MUA they use.
nice post about the knight thing
also, they fixed barcelona.drupalcon so that you can now disable tinymce on a per-account basis
hotmail for example is notoriously borken.
I'm using hook_form_alter to add to the content types form, and would like to have a function called after submission. is #after_build what I want?
i have problem with gmail too
when i send utf-8 email to myself on gmail, it gets base64 encoded and works ok
but from drupal the euro sign is garbled
dmitrig01, ping

oh thank goodness.
This is so confusing
i wouldnt mind if just hotmail was broken but gmail and outlook seem broken too

dmitrig01, I pm'd you

sure
Crell - Change your name to yched, say something (but be nice , and change it back
hehe
I'm trying to add a phone field to the location module. I added code for the phone every place I found code for the street field but no dice. Anyone know something I might have missed by blind copying without knowing what I'm doing this way?
Why? There's a separate phone number CCK field already. I'd be inclined to keep them separate.
I did get phone to show up in settings, but it won't go on the phone itself
Crell - It's confusing for users, I think
what Crell says. Or use hook_form_alter
A phone number is not an address any more than an email address is. They should be added separately.
I was trying to get it in the module itself… There's an issue for it and I thought if I could get a patch that it might get included
You dont' think it's confusing adding 5 phone numbers in one spot and 5 address in a totally different spot and then to try and make sure you get them in the right order so the phone numbers match the right locations?
That's a more general CCK problem, that it can't "bundle" fields easily.
Well, my feelign is that the phone number is part of the location
if i have a nodetype w/ form elements 'headline' and 'story', does that not automatically get converted to $node-headline and $node-story after i hit submit?
So it makes sense to enter it with the rest of the location
It woudl be pretty rare for one phone number to cover more than one location and they can just enter the same one in each for those exceptions
No, you have to save it in your _update and _insert hooks.
test
I still think a bundling solution is better than stuffing everything into one big mega-field.
I guess I'll wade through the module code some more… I don't know what I could have missed. Everywhere there's a street, I added the same code for the phone
It's not one field… The phone is its own field
seen eaton?
yeah. It's "The part of core that doesn't ship with core"'.
ok, i guess that's my problem. i'm not seeing that in the node_example's _insert hook though, could you point me towards some documentation on how to save?
I guess it's a philosophical difference. I see the phone number as being part of a location just as much as the address is.
Wheras the email, as you said, isn't, as that isn't physically tied to the location like the phone is
a phone number does not need to be physically tied to a location either
http://api.drupal.org/api/file/developer/examples/node_example.module/5 - See node_example_update and node_example_insert
ever heard of sip phones?
or cell phones?
Nope
A business phone normally isn't only a cell phone with no land line
well, cell phones are little portable telephones
"warning: directory CVS specified in argument"
When you call a business, it's generally answered at that business
I'd look into hook_form_alter then
i'm trying to do something similar to that right now, but thet $node-stuff is all blank . Where does that get created (for example he's referencing $node-vid/color/quantity/etc)
killes - I suppose I could, but it seemed to make more sense to add it just the way all the other fields are added
The node hooks are rather poorly named right now, to be honest. What is called $node in the insert/update hooks is really a stripped down copy of the form structure, not the node structure.
One of these days we need to fix that.
Michelle, not everyone who is entering locations and phones is entering businesses
the problem is that you will have difficulties updating.
killes - I'm trying to write a patch to submit to the location issue queue, not just hacking the module
Oh, Crell. Hey
add1sun - If they don't want the phone, you don't turn it on in settings, same as all the others
uadd1sun - If they don't want the phone, you don't turn it on in settings, same as all the others/u
ok, that makes sense.. my $form has the elements 'headline', 'date', and 'story', should that work then?
finally!
When trying to commit, It's not letting me for some reason. I created another directory in the contrib/modules and was allowed to, so I am not sure why I can't commit newer versions of the code
Crell + frando at the same place, time
Yes. Try printing out the $node in the insert/update hooks and see what they look like.
:P
Your data should be in there somewhere.
And I'm at work, so really shouldn't be in here, but am anyway.
location (API, module), Miscellaneous, normal, patch (code needs work), 1 IRC mention
frando: So. The logical thing is that fapi properties are object properties but simplexml does it backwards. Which foot do we want to shoot ourselves?
for children in the FAPI4 code, as simplexml does it?
exactly that is the question
ah!
Right. It makes more sense to me that way, and is inline with expectations from a very similar data structure.
FAPI is about 90% close enough to almost use SimpleXML directly.
hmm
there's a quirk in the survey setup by dries
good call, i'll try that thanks
question 2, you cannot chose "other"
since there is no checkbox
hi
as you vote on http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=exg2izKcY4WouOy73JoZUw_3d_3d
the second page asks about pathauto in core
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=exg2izKcY4WouOy73JoZUw_3d_3d
don't
oops
lol
why?
stupid remote client sw… I forget it doesn't like copy
token in core would be much much better improvement
Ah, yes,.
haha you lucky
you can reach page 2
i wanted to fill in "other" at question 2
pathauto also needs lots more features
but you can't still you need to check something
I want to make sure that we don't add so many layers of objects that we kill performance and readability.
ahhh Dries has a servey
simply accesses the actual direct object properties while [] is routed to the _children array. no __set/__get. If we'd swap it around, I think that we would have to use __set and __get for the children nevertheless, because I don't think that all that fancy Iterator stuff works if we don't
have the children in an array
Sure it does. See the code in my sandbox where I did it that way around.
performance - objects are always copied by reference, I don't think that object copies harm performance
