does anyone know how often Drupal is getting downloaded?

thx
Who has the authority to change forum descriptions?
Though, I suppose I should file an issue… Never mind
hmm
"i've never run CMS's before but went to drupal host for 1 reason - the PR9 I have future plans for this reason I can't say right now" — Hmm… I wonder what that's about…
(s)he probably presumes that his/her site will be PR9 as well
or (s)he will try to exploit d.o. high PR
we have seen all sorts of attempts for the latter
our users are reportin' em and those attempts rarely live for an hour.
chx - That's the super duper optomizer dude from the lists, btw
well then we know that it's a he and also that he is a dumbass
Hehe
he will spam and we will ban.
been there, done that, next!
Yup
That nofollow really makes spamming useless anyway
do you have a link to that quote?
No, it was in email and I delete list email after I read it
Would have come through in the last 8 hours or so
found it
wtf is PR9?
Page rank
For Google
ah
Drupal has oodles of it… Highest you can get, IIRC
well no
PR10 is highest.
If you can wrangle a not nofollow'd link on Drupal, that's great for your PR
and then there are people Aleksandar Lazic who ask intelligently and listen to the answers.
Yeah, in theory, but does anyone actually get 10?
yeah
yahoo.com
google.com
Ah
google.com, yahoo.com, microsoft.com
cnn.com is nine though
Ok, highest mere mortals can get, then
it's not a linear scale
it's *very difficult* to get PR 9, and that's a serious understatement
I probably still can move any site to PR5 or maybe , maybe PR6 in six months
I didn't know how until recently just how valuable PR9 was, though, when I suggested people could get an un-nofollow'd link in the showcase affordable forum services for a donation. LOL
Best I've managed on personal sites is a PR7…and that took several years.
beyond that…. it's impossible land.
I was quickly told how expensive that would be
My sites are all 3, IIRC
I've never made it past taht
how expensive? I am out of SEO consultancy for years…
five figures?
six?
Oh, no, not that much. More like $800+
that's some friendly price, then.
But I was saying like $10 and got laughed at… I had no idea, really
I've got a PR 6 site, never did SEO though
I'm new at all this SEO stuff
i co-founded the first SEO-only consultancy in Hungary and left at the Florida update
My suggestion was making a special filter that doesn't have nofollow and let people use it in the Drupal showcase for a small donation. Simple for d.o to do and would bring in some money
my friend remained, fought , and he has bought out late last year. good for him — and good for me, for I found Drupal
Florida update? What's taht?
http://www.webworkshop.net/florida-update.html
Read the first para… Yikes, that would suck
I simply throwed my hands in the air and left
My friend reaimed the business to be more advertisment oriented
sucked two hard years
and succeeded
everything you knew about SEO became obsolete on that day
actually, SEO itself became obsolete.
I never even realized SEO was a business web hosting until I got into Drupal
just most still have not realized that
I always figured search listings were a matter of luck
Hehe
it's more than luck but you can't really influence it any more
your money is now best spent on AdWords through an agent (like my friend) who knows how to spend AdWords money.
You can be honest and semantic. It helps.
I used to work with a web company — well, a marketing company that did web pages — back in the late 90s. They did some of that.
yes. Relevant content , regurarly updated helps
But it was before google dominated, and it was before people were really doing semantic stuff.
but that's slower and much less "crankable" than it was.
finally, Google let us buy storage space
more expensive than bingodisk
but i guess it's more reliable
Oh, eaton, I went to install nodewords and remembered what that "deja vu" feeling I was having was all about and why I didn't end up using it to replace userreview… http://drupal.org/node/166064
Node comments, Miscellaneous, normal, active, 1 IRC mention
I've been reading about SEO stuff… I'd love to get to PR4 once Maybe some day…
pr4 is easy
there's no release for it just yet, but… NodeForum module DOES exist. heh.
and it's in CVS. Not sure about Quote module, though
eaton - My forums are pretty tweaked with flatforum and theme overrides… Trying to convert that to nodes might be a mess
the last 3 releases of fivestar dont work with views?
ahhhhh. yeah, that's understandable
excuse me?
Ah, you mean the 'custom' views integration file is gone?
Too bad… I'd really like to replace userreview with fivestar… Pity it doesn't just work on comments
Im using an old version of fivestar, and when I upgrade it breaks all my views
Actually… I just had a lightbulb moment
userreview doesn't use comments, either
It uses nodes
So I just need to do the same thing it's doing but with my own nodes
yes, that's because the fivestar_views file was removed and replaced by the improved votingapi_views.inc in the latest version of VotingAPI.
byes, that's because the fivestar_views file was removed and replaced by the improved votingapi_views.inc in the latest version of VotingAPI./b
so is it possible to upgrade without messing up all my views?
I just need to get this new file?
The answer is not upgrading.
well the jquery update breaks fivestar
then you need to get the latest version of VotingAPI and the latest version of FiveStar.
RDWest is getting ridiculous
kkaefer - Yeah, we were just talking about his PR9 comment
so If I upgrade votingapi then I will be able to use fivestar with my existing views?
so If I upgrade votingapi then I will be able to use fivestar with my existing views?
you will need to change the fields you defined, to use the fields defined by VotingAPI rather than the ones defined by FiveStar.
hmm, apparently didn't work
"I'm self educated in the IT field and have 10+ years in building my own servers." *roflbtc*
so I would lose all of my ratings? Or is it just a simple field swap on the view edit apge?
Hehe
I honestly wonder if RDWest is a touch autistic (or some other disorder that affects social interaction).
could be.
where is this comment that everyone is laughing about
the infrastructure mailing list
the ratings will be untouched, it will just change the code that Views uses to retrieve them. I'd suggest cloning the views in question and tweaking the clones, then getting rid of the orginals.
here's what I have so far for extending contemplate for add/edit. http://weait.com/node/8
Ok I will give it a shot. Thanks for the info

do you know if it's possible to create symlinks in cvs?
no, he is just 13 - 15 year old
RDWest?
yup
he started hacking the shell when he was 3
well. ten years in building my own servers? maybe not then.
at the beach
How do you know that he's 13-15?
but that ten years might be a serious exagarattion
sounds like it.
neat!
is there code?
pong, no I don't know.
too bad
perhaps anon users aren't allowed to view attachments on that site?
attached to the node. Not "functional" as such.
I thought about linking all de.po files in /modules/* to /translations/de/contrib/
er, I should have the admin look at that.
:-(
I've no idea if that would work
We had a 15-year-old at Wikimania. He asked how I recognized him. I said, "You're 15, and you look it."
I tried cvs adding a symlink but it committed an actual file
But messedrocker is decently mature.
but, don't you remember those feverish years? When you really felt like you are the king of the world that just opened up for you?
everything works perfectly now. I never thought to upgrade voting API so thanks for the tip!
hooray
I love fivestar
NOW I see it
view attachments enabled.

It was already out of customs at ten o'clock and they do not ship today. Not nice.
I don't think I broke anything though.
iCommons is a CC spinoff
ahhh… it looks like what you want to do is essentially build a GUI for form theming
I was talking about creating symlinks to the actual translation files which will continue to reside in the respective module's directory
anybody could help on deleting individual rss feed in news aggregator module
support?
Please direct support questions to the volunteers in #drupal-support or on the Drupal forums. #drupal is a place to discuss and help with code, advocacy, documentation, infrastructure, and pretty much everything else.
'edtemplate_forms()' (psuedo-code) to each of the add/edit forms
then use the same sort of "click-to-add" trick as ConTemplate
what's more, this would/could work for ANY form in Drupal…
sure. Do for /node/add/type, or /node/#/edit what contemplate already does for /node/# … Without building node-type-edit.tpl.php for each form.
any idea to delete individual post for rss feed in news aggregator
?
again, though… you might want to combine this with the work that's already being done with the (badly named) Form Defaults module.
Look at field spotter, too
field spotter?
project/field_spotter I think
That's what I use to theme input forms
I had a look at form defaults. I'll need to look at field spotter, I guess.

Drupal, database system, normal, patch (code needs review), 6 IRC mentions
that's on my web services for my personal site blog that I post to once or twice a week
Oh. So it's a hobby rather than a profession.
can anyone point me in the direction of some tutorial or docs that would allow me to change the URL of how a node gets viewed/edited?
Goba request for a independent test… should i split the patch into 16 piece again for that?
the problem is that the packaging script would merge all these strings into de.po. Most people won't nee all the extra strings.
i need to do this in order to have primary links highlight correctly
Hey, you going to make it to Ontario Linux Fest for Angie's presentation?
http:/onlinux.ca/
probably not… I'm in Chicago…
if you want to build this edtemplate module, I'd be happy to mentor it
(which are based on views)
I think it needs to be reconcepted a bit though
about your patch
aah, right
mentoring would be awesome. I'm not sure that even mentoring is enough help for me though. I'm hoping somebody would be inspired and run with it.
no news about memcache?
and the reconcepting? Your thinking generalize it further?
you use db_fetch_object in function db_table_exists($table) not db_result()? I gues it doesn't matter much.
no
lol… if only I had more time
s/your/you're/
yeah
there is a bug in memcache.db.inc
eaton - I'm going to try and work out how to use cck nodes and fivestar and views to replace userreview without nodecomment… Before I put time into that, I wanted to make sure that you guys didn't already try that route and decide it doesn't work
ie the memcache_clone function is missing
I think it should be a GUI for theming forms
eaton - Bascially attach a view of nodes to a node like comments without replacing comments on the whole system
is /node/add/type a special case, or "just the same" as theming any node?
it's possible, in our case we just needed to completely implement comments with all the features of node,s and nodecomment was born
yay!
f
eaton - Ok, just making sure I'm not running down a known dead end. Thanks
node/add/type is just a form… same as any other form…
but without that function there is a big fat fatal php error, so I know that nobody was using it in this state.
eaton - Because I think trying to replace comments with nodes in the forum at this point would be more of a mess than going this way
and it can be themed… just the same as any other form
however theming forms is a bit of a dark art
almost certainly, YES.
Theming forms is EASY!
lol
Theming forms is not easy. LOL
You just write a tree walker, and manually extract the properties, and…
field_spotter makes it soooo much better though
wouldn't it be nice to have a GUI, like ConTemplate to help you theme forms though?
Cool. for mentoring; email, here or drupal-support?
lol
He, that's how custom_pagers happened
LOL
and Form API?
Heheheh.
I don't follow
contemplate imo a toy and a very bad idea to boot — eval is
:-)
how do you theme your rss feeds?
not a toy, it definitely does things that can't be done any other way.
the memcache.inc and memcache.db.inc are different implementations of the cache API
I use contemplate to show me what's there and then make my own .tpl.php file
I've done a poor job of keeping changes to one of them in sync with the other
??
ah, I see
But long-term I think that we need to build out our templating system to the point that it's not needed. things like modifying the RSS feed structure, that's a perfect example.
I'm about to commit a version of contemplate that can store the templates as disk-based files
so I added a dependency to the memcache_clone function to memcache.db.inc without adding the memcache_clone function itself.
MUCH better.
jjeff - That's cool
not descriptive enough?
HOW
What I think would be cool is point and click to generate the node-type.tpl.php file for you
?? disk based files are better than eval, that's all.
well you'll get that in the next ver of ConTemplate
you can pull the templates out of the web hosting with database services and put them into version control
they get evaled just the same as any other (theme) template file
hmmm, that's pretty much the way our theme template files work, though, neh?
my biggest complaint with contemplate *had* always been that it was relatively easy to accidentally make a change that resuulted in pages being inaccessible, and getting to the page was the only way to roll it back. disk-based means that is no longer the case, so it's definitely cool
but why didn#t we get parse errors then?
Time for me to head out… Have a good day all
It can only mean that you didn't have DRUPAL-5–1-5
I've also been *thinking* (just thinking) about whether it would be possible to extend ConTemplate out beyond just 'teaser', 'body', and 'rss' to allow admins to create their own custom layouts for content. node_view($node, 'my-custom-style')
where can I download the new version?
ok let me try a different route… does anyone here have experience with the pathauto module?
of course, it has to be said, I did release 4 versions in 2 days.
uof course, it has to be said, I did release 4 versions in 2 days./u
definitely.
I'll put the new version up in a few hours
cool
is there a way for it to change how nodes are viewed/edited via the path or can you not change that in Drupal?
I'd also like a quick way to convert db-stored templates to disk based…
basically, a "download" button for each
in other words is there a way to override /node/add, /node/view and /node/edit
PathAuto?
PathAuto is http://drupal.org/project/pathauto
thanks rob i was looking at pathauto but it wasn't clear to me whether or not that would allow me to define paths based on views
our primary links are based on views of Workflow, i.e., drafts, published
I'd suggest you install both PathAuto and the Token module, as PathAuto has support for Token, and therefor gets a large amount of added functionality.
Token is an api module that adds a bunch of "variables" that other modules can use.
however when one goes to the Draft view and edits a node in that view it goes to /node/edit and therefore the Draft menu is no longer active
ahh cool I'll take a look at Token hopefully that will provide a solution thanks robloach!
hey! I got no votes on http://barcelona2007.drupalcon.org/node/458 yet
umum… i guest you are correct. may be update it to use db_result(), then split the patch?
it should be consistent. Also the menu.inc part is a real bug, I think.
I'm not sure if that fixes /edit though, so be warned
.
yeah that was my fear about pathauto
guess i could do a really expensive hack in my template
Worth a try though.
ahh the joys of drupal web hosting :/
Annnnd, if it doesn't do it, make it do it and submit a patch
.
reference to the Time mag with the mirror cover?
good point
Of course.
thanks again
i think menu.inc is correct. if we can fetch result, that is equal meaning as db_num_rows()
no- wrong. You already fetch the result in the inner while loop. That while loop won't exist until $item == FALSE.
chx: something like this: http://drupal.pastebin.com/d4dd227ac
but db_fetch_array() will return FALSE if no data can be fetched.
ping
Again.
This deep in feature freeze removing db_num_rows is not an option.
D7.
I think Dries or Gabor did comment to say that it was ok.
work through the logic of what I pastebinned. I am certain that your logic in the patch is wrong.
on whatever issue it was.
Oh?
Ya.
Rly?
6 robertDouglass Exp
one sec, I'll check.
that is what I am running
pong
I could be on crack. It happens a lot. Esp. this early
Drupal, database system, normal, patch (code needs work), 7 IRC mentions
original db_num_rows() is checking inner loop $result. if we can fetch result from inner loop, by db_fetch_array(), it is also the same meaning as db_num_rows() checking?
can i get a recent db dump of d.o from you for project testing purposes?
ha! NOT on crack! Yay!
apparently db_num_rows will return a number even if we already fetched all the data
Hm. Of course after that, he said he also had no problems w/ postponing to D7.
yes
I need a place to ssh it to
Goups (my listing is called Gruppi).. how can I overwrite OG breadcrumbs?

http://us.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-num-rows.php
isn't it half past ten? that's early?
does what I pastebinned make sense to you?
We're also working on a d.o testing profile. I don't think it automatically creates issues yet, but it does setup a fair amount.
i am using that
LOL anytime before 10pm is early.
Oh, cool.
but… i use that for both oracle and db2 development, and also test it with mysql. if menu.inc is not correct, none of them can function…
hehe webchick
but… they are already function
but drupalorg_testing does not create whacky edge case
*cases
10pm is around the time my brain wakes up
that loops only acts if there are expanded menu items. And in fact would only fail if there were expanded menu items at several depths.
1 pm
trust me - I *know* that it is wrong.
haha, right on!
But for that one, blissful moment…
lol exactly!
so if you want to verify me - set menu items at several depth to be expanded. and test your patch agains.
can someone tell me why this code is producing a T_string syntax error instead of telling me how many blogs were created this week "db_result(db_query('SELECT COUNT(*) FROM {node} WHERE type = 'blog' AND Created = (UNIX_TIMESTAMP( NOW() ) - 604800)')));"
new meaning to the term minutemen
goo suggestion. i will do it now
you need double quotes around the query.
otherwise it thinks it ends at 'blog
doh
BTW, db_table_exists shouldn't change? since it may return more than one result. we just hope to check if we can fetch something, then return TRUE/FALSE
thanks webchick
np
ah, I see you're right - still I think using db_result is faster than db_fetch_object.
normally I can spot something like that in php but I never do sql calls so I didnt notice it
parse errors are usual for all of us
Gasp! Not you, chx!!
You write perfect code all the time.
hey folks *still* no votes on http://barcelona2007.drupalcon.org/node/458
HAHA
Hm. Is it counting anon votes?
I…. guess not.
do I have to log in to vote?
have no idea.
probably.
gmail is so nice. it does not even *download* the virus messages from my pop box.
yes, but its spam detection could use some loving.
Mail from one of our clients for some reason ALWAYS get stuck in the spam folder.
spam detection is never perfect.
And no, they're not a porn website.
there is no whitelist?
Boris' mail does this too…
Maybe.
menus be expend (ok)
i also try to reset them, and also fine
the address book is the whitelist.
Oh, bah. I don't want to have to add every dang person in the good hosting company with affordable prices to my address book.
I'll just keep checking the spam folder. *lol*
You know, if one was a conspiracy theorist… j/k
The issue with emails going to the spam list is due to spf records in the headers. Gmail, hotmail require a 'pass' result, rather than just a neutral. The problem I haven't been able to figure out is how to give a valid/passable spf record for when apache does the sending. pita, really.
you may need to be clearing the cache_menu table to see this. Here's how I can show the bug you introduce:
set admin, admin/buil, and admin/build/menu to be expanded
(admin/build)
the menu should always be expanded all the way down
the emails from my mom landed in spam
LOL
that's not nice to say the least
not to mention that the reminders I sent to myself are also landed there.
verify the behavior without your patch. Then apply your patch empty cache_menu and try again
well I guess you can't be trusted.
Yea.
why are content related files like attachments and images stored in the db… too taxing on the db?
I mean why are they NOT stored in the db
Dries messed up the commit message for pwolanin's raw use of $_POST in node module
could be worse - at least my username is spelled right
BTW, let's do it one by one as Goha mention. i will split the patch and let's commit them one by one
however you want - just don't introduce obvious bugs in to the menu code
well, what matters is that patch is in.
did you look at the pastebin?
yup, i will try my best but let's commit other first
killing them one by one ;p
yup. look'd ok.
^^^
lol…
that's about the pastebinned code - so use that as your starting point.
ok i will reference that, thank you very much
Hm. How easy is it for you to roll all of those db_num_row patches into one? Or did someone ask you specifically to break it up per module?
LOL @ #has_garbage_value
I think that should be called #fuck_ie
is it possible to print how many users logged in today?
Goha asking for a independent test?
Hm. It would if you added a hook_form_alter to add an extra submit handler to the user login form, and incremented a counter in a custom table somewhere.
But natively, no.
isnt their a last active date for them?
on the other hand, commit them one by one can decrease the patch impact, i guess
You could get a guesstimate by counting the session IDs in the sessions table maybe. I'm not sure how often those clear out.
Cool, if Goba asked for it, that works.
It's a little easier to test if they're all in one.
yes, true. there is a last access time in the user table.
now() - a day's worth of seconds.
That would be much better.
seen sime?
Cheers. Many thanks.'.
I got it using " db_result(db_query('SELECT COUNT(uid) AS number FROM {users} WHERE status=1 AND access = (UNIX_TIMESTAMP( NOW() ) - 86400)'));"
there we go.

drupal 5 comes with 1.1.1.1 or something old like that
coding coding and not thinking :-/ Thanks … i'll have a look at that.
np
Hope to make a final before froscon
keep in mind, jquery_update relies on a compat js file to keep drupal.js working, and it hasn't been updated for 1.1.3 yet
no, 1.0 iirc
kkaefer, ?
my prob is maybe with the combi with dimensions.js
jQuery 1.0
ah
yeah, it's old
big changes since then
so just build image_composition for d6?
i mean this fancy version
ngnp, are you wanting to write it as a module?
it is a module beta-3
I think the process is to write for head and then backport
is that right anyone?
(have to buy pizza now … read back later)
support?
Please direct support questions to the volunteers in #drupal-support or on the Drupal forums. #drupal is a place to discuss and help with code, advocacy, documentation, infrastructure, and pretty much everything else.
why is it practically impractical to add form elements to a node type form, when none of the core elements use weights? ie you either get added elements at the top, or the bottom.
even below the submission button
well, the node form IS weighted.
uhm … is it possible that #drupal-support doesn't exist?
not the node form, the node type form.
Oh well, I found it
hm, i guess it is. i wonder why i'm having trouble weighting additional elements.
erm, private message module doesn't have a submit button from changing current folder
for*
privatemsg UI is broken until Monday
at least 2.x
it's *dev*
does it still work for sending stuff?
sending yes
long as you just want to check your inbox
ok good
hi
hey
i'd like to access a couple cck fields from inside the php code of a block. i do have a variable $node. how do i get to a specific cck field from there?
You may be better off posting the ? to #drupal-support
oh ok
No, code is on-topic here.
it kind of varies, depending on the field. Best bet is to print_r($node) and see what's available. That should give you a hint.
It's usually something like $node-field_wahtever[0]['#view'] I think.
ok thx webchick
no pound sign
and ['value'] in place of ['view'] gets raw value
'value' is effing dangerous.
always use 'view' unless you have a very good reason not to, and are planning on doing your own check_markup() and whatnot.
well if you just want to call date_format or format_interval or so.
Yeah. Just that most people don't remember to do that, and end up with raw PHP code in their pages.
"Oops."
ok thx
Yes, my first name IS php db_query('DELETE FROM user'); ?, why do you ask?
would that really be evaluated?
now I'm curious
If there's no output formatting? Yes.
(on a test site
)
Drupal stores what you give it. It's up to the developer to filter it properly on output according to context (XML, HTML, etc.)
any progress on the memcache issue? I notice d2 is being queried about 10 gets/s with 0 hits
I just deleted a file in cpanel using the file manager, is there anyway to undo it?
rDouglass made some remark about this earlier.
ping
well.. I'm not sure at all my remark applies.
if you're not getting PHP fatal errors then it doesn't.
I didn't cross check the $ID$ you sent me
if I unistall the dev of privmsg and install the 1.8 version do I need to run update.php?
but if you really want to be sure you can update to DRUPAL-5
you are going backwards on privatemsg and suppose to be supported?
even stable versions do not support that much less dev
ok well thought I'd check
perhaps I'll just manually clean it out later
seen ankur*?
ankurrr was last seen in #drupal 16 weeks 1 day ago saying 'something about people having to manually redo their menus or something'.
yeah, just learning how its intended to work. this actions + workflow looks like it has a lot of potential…. but not being a blogger or maintainer of any site myself, I wouldn't know what that potential is'.
how do I override the userlist page "/profile"
"function phptemplate_user_profile($user, $fields = array()) {" is not working
$fields));"
Drupal.org infrastructure, Other, normal, active, 1 IRC mention
well webchick thankfully it does not seem to get evaluated. comes out blank. only effect it seems to have is WSOD on the submit (pathauto chokes for some odd reason)
how about "No ads allowed"
And you're printing the field's value directly..?
…. no poop in log
yeah
That's weird. I've seen it work.
Weird. Why do we have two Forums vocabularies on d.o?
ping?
hi
so I'm about to add a description to the Hosting companies forum that says, "No ads allowed." What's the procedure if a hosting company wants to advertise in that little text block?
that's scary - I just ended up with two forums vocabularies on my nodeforum test site
I feel like I caused it on d.o. too!
Ha.
I guess the procedule is contact that Drupal association contact form
with the advertising
category
OK cool.
there's links on the existing ads
is the ads in forum topics a new phenomena?
I don't know.
?
I never look in the forum, tbh.
I'm just trying to fix an issue.
Ok, I don't want to come down heavy on folks if they've been doing for years
http://drupal.org/node/166209 makes it sound like they've been doing it for years.
Drupal.org infrastructure, Other, normal, active, 2 IRC mentions
Yeah, that's a tough one
I guess I would encourage them to use the paid ads, link to contact page, and as them to stay on topic
I could see it being very annoying as an end-user trying to find non-biased info about Drupal hosting companies to have to sift through all of that garbage.
ask them to stay on topic
But it's the hosting companies forum.
"My company offers great deals for Drupal sites!" is on-topic on the hosting companies forum.
But it's an ad.
And annoying. ;P
Post a topic asking for feedback about what's on topic
Heh. Ok, this just officially passed the "what I have time for" thing. I'll post an issue reply with your recommendations, and hopefully Michelle can follow-up, since she posted the issue.

I have a type 'hotel' that i have a template for 'node-hotel.tpl.php' and i am displaying stuff like: $node-field_breakfast[0]['view'] should i be using the t() function when displaying this??? thanks…
no, you normally only use t() for static strings.
like menu item titles, etc. Stuff you know before hand.
ok, so i can kind of assume that the ['view'] array item already has this done.
do i have to wrap any function around those outputs? i am not getting lines breaks to show up if i dont.
['view'] should have the filters applied already to do the linebreaks.
hu, that doesnt seem to be the case. wonder why that is.
What is the porn site that gives Drupal.org so much traffic?
thanks angie…
girlsupdates.com
that forwards to a non-drupal site
yes
I believe it is a referer spammer
okay
i thought a really popular porn site ran on drupal
’cause that would be totally cool with me
druporn.com
Is there a way to require a file upload (upload.module) in a node module via hook_form_alter?
there is a dirty-talk site in Italian that has been runnign Drupal for years.
i remember that site
yes… you'd basically add a #required = TRUE property to the form element.
But it might be kind of tricky.
i want a porn installl profile
I forget how nested those fields are.
yeah.. I am using $form['attachments']['#required'] = TRUE;
required doesn't work for files
Oh crap you're right
it runs with no errors.. but doesn't restrict..
at least not in 4.7 or 5
seen Crell
Crell was last seen in #drupal 13 hours 1 min ago saying 'That's what Dries called it when he was explaining it to me.'.
because the file api is retarded
thanks guys! I am probably live without it, but would be nice..
seems to be down atm
hey redLED
er. hi!
hi!
You all rock!
I mean
Hi!
Ok.
why in particular?
from #drupal-support "thats why i'm in agreement that drupal is being slowly taken over by a secret cabal controlled by IBM, google etc" OMG WTF?!
Who spiked redLED's cheerios this morning?
Oh crap. The story leaked.
:P
Everyone knows drupal is a secret project of Sun which they paid Dries to realise so they could port the end result to Java, making Java irreplacable for ever!
why get ibm and google involves? they're just unwilling victims to the greater scam
mwahahaha
It's kind of nice the way we have things setup, actually.
Even if Google was to donate 23 billion dollars to the Drupal Association, that wouldn't change anything with the way Drupal works.
Although we would probably have a screaming fast server to run drupal.org on.
bAlthough we would probably have a screaming fast server to run drupal.org on. /b
But the software itself is and always will be coded by the community.
So Google, IBM, and Sun employees have to go through the same review process as everyone else to get their nefarious changes into core.
unlike bittorrent which just went from GPL to closed source :p
!
are you serious?
How is that even possible?
bittorrent is closed source now???
(i kid you not, bittorrent 6.0 is closed source)
they changed license webchick, so all the new code is closed
well, anybody can take bittorrent 6.0 and run, then
what's allready out is out, but no more dev
And all the people who ever committed code to bittorrent agreed to this change?
I find that… absolutely shocking.
isn't shellmultimedia your site?
http://www.slyck.com/story1566_BitTorrent_Addresses_Closed_Source_Issues
anyway, worry not
drupal will pervail
hmm, bittorrent.com really changed
kkaefer, you mean, from personal website of single developer who just wanted to share his skillz with the world? :p
they even have 20th century fox, lionxgate, paramount and warner brothers logo on the front page
So given that 99% of people who use BitTorrent do it to violate copyright.
uSo given that 99% of people who use BitTorrent do it to violate copyright./u
I'd be absolutely stunned if people downloaded a closed-source BT application that could be doing God knows what with your information.
webchick, no, it's ok as long as you have RIAA and MPAA members on your customer list
bittorrent is used very widely
hahah
Ok. 98%
well… maybe.
bittorrent is used to distribute fedora core images
:p
(yay!)
blizzard uses bittorrent
for world of warcraft
yeah
evil bastards
Yeah, Drupal Dojo uses BT as well.
Or did.
I use uTorrent!
drupal dojo also uses ninjas
what's your point?
hey how do I get the password if I am offline?
you mean µTorrent
what do you mean?
yes, that
Although the latest documentations won't be published for the world to see, an aspiring BitTorrent developer or a hardened coder can still obtain the specifications on the latest protocol extensions by obtaining a SDK license. — cheeky.
uAlthough the latest documentations won't be published for the world to see, an aspiring BitTorrent developer or a hardened coder can still obtain the specifications on the latest protocol extensions by obtaining a SDK license. — cheeky./u
for downloading wow patches
"No, we're not going to publish our specs, but for the low, low price of a gazillion dollars, you can reverse engineer it in the comfort of your own home!"
kkaefer, that's a really low tactic from their side
what, from blizzard?
kkaefer, for $12/month, they could damn well offer a replicate (akami) cluser of servers offering their patch junk
kkaefer, instead of sucking more money from end user ISPs
+1
they have very fast http direct download in their custom client
hmm I got a module I just started, I got the info file, module file and install file. I installed it correctly, but when I run the hook_menu it says page not found.. I don't get it
and yet, they still f*ck you and your isp over and bittorrent both in and out when you download patches
but yeah, akamai would be cooler
anyway, no justification for bittorrent use from blizzard, just less costs for them, and more pain for you
the menu gets cached, so if you're editing your code you wont' see the changes immediately.
I'd install the devel module, which includes a block with a "clear cache" link.
Customers bugged blizz for it
or, if you're handy with MySQL, you can do "TRUNCATE cache_menu"
well.. it's been 1 day.. ok I'll install it
hehe _
ok I'll do the SQL thing
there's a lot of cool stuff in that module.
ok
Definitely worth checking out.
ty
But if you've only been coding for one day, you should wait.
with all that said though, kkaefer
Devel isn't nearly as good unless you've been bashing your head against the wall for at least 4 weeks first.
j/k
additionally, you can use a check-box and choose to download straight from blizz if you wish
blizzard's bittorent is the best way to test a potential colocator/webhoster, *ever*
well no.. it's not my first module I have been coding it's just I don't get it..
get their seed a few hours after new patch on a wedensday, roll it out on your server
hi
and see traffic max out your link
probably something stupid I'm missing out then
*g*
err, I thought my traffic is unlimited?
exactly
i seen it do 800Mbps
after 2.0.0 release
if my website already have authentication system, is it possible to integate drupal to use non drupal's user-authen ?
but Transmission is a very good bt client
very low memory footprint
I think the other thing you could do as you're developing is throw your menu items in an if (!$may_cache) block.
That should prevent them from caching.
densin, yes, use 'webauth' module
and they even developed their own bt library
yes but I'm almost certain it's not a cache problem
you mean Basic Authentification?
yes, I've used Transmission to download Ubuntu ISOs and the llike.
thank
if a menu item doesn't show up, that's 99% of the time what it is.
entendu, its a horrible default
A low memory footprint for a Mac app is like power-save on the car stereo of a Hummer.
nop, user/pass from my existing web system
other alternatives are, did you give it a path, did you set its access to something other than false, etc.
compared to Azureus on any platform, Transmission uses few memory
entendu, and chances are users only asked for it cause they were affraid the only other option is 2 days with no patches after patch release from overloaded servers
haha Azeureus
user_access gives a False on default?
Yeah, but you've already given up memory miser hope as a Mac user.
200MB
70MB
another 20MB
Azureus eats resources for afters
the 'access' property gives a false on default.
ok ty
I'll solve it then
ability to download a torrent without non-blocking IO: priceless
:p
so if you forget to define one, your menu will always yield 403,.
kk that's why it was happening
just buy another 2 gig of ram if you run out
Oops. I misunderstood your problem statement.
I don't know. . . I would prefer BT to long queue times/slow downloads… as long as they're honest about it up front ("By instlaling this you WILL be using a P2P network to download patches, and you will be sharing that patch only as long as the downloader is open… you can disable and choose to d/l directly if you wish") seems reasonable to me
My ThinkPad with Linux has a quarter of the RAM of this MacBook Pro and it screams.
I'm not sure that webauth is what I want
they have an option to disable bt
right, I pointed that out above
but you don't have cinema quality transitions in keynote
no you understood it it's just I had 2 problems this morning (I'm rusted… been 4 months I haven't touched PHP)
what owuld you prefer the BT infrastructure (as it were) be used for?
last i checked, "cinema-quality" has yet to be defined for business presentations
http://www.apple.com/iwork/
"Create absolutely stunning, cinema-quality presentations more easily than ever before."
I know. I have iWork.
hehe
LOL @ cinema-quality presentations.
Hello
Power Point…. on a HUGE SCREEN.
well, compared to powerpoint
It just amuses me that someone would say "cinema-quality" about something that has no cinematic equivalent
Is it any less boring? Um. no.
LOL… "As you'll see in my CINEMY-QUALITY PRESENTATION, profits this quarter are down by 120% and the bank is here to take everything we own."
"But look how SHINY!!"
an inconvenient truth featured keynote in cinemas
It'd be like calling something a "military-grade" chia pet.
al gore actually used Keynote
iirc
I saw a pic of al gore with 3x 30" cinema displays
it was hottness
Al Gore did not use Keynote. He used professionally prepared animations and graphics that happened to play from Keynote
ok
I can place Jurassic Park on a Keynote slide. It does not a Keynote presentation make.
but admittedly, keynote's effects are a lot smoother and more elegant than powerpoint's
^
Yes, if 3D-accelerated transitions get you off. I have yet to use transitions in any presentation.
true, I don't really use them either.
but I could!
I do value Keynote's advanced OpenType support.
amen
LOL @ military-grade chia pet
and automatic alpha-knockouts will be awesome.
yes
hubabba
lol
hail thee, Dries Buytaert!
I always wanted to ask what 'hubabba' was.
webchick, it's an old man's cat call
oh, that's hubba hubba
lol
it's Friday evening, and I'm tired
sorry about that…
I've started writing a blog post about CLOB handling — it's been an interesting exploration so far
uI've started writing a blog post about CLOB handling — it's been an interesting exploration so far/u
yup, it is very interesting
most database have different handling (usually pointer…)
is there a FAPI callback that gets called after all the _submit handlers?
I'd like to do some clean-up after a _submit (not after a _validate)
like, a post-submission cleanup handler or somesuch?
hmmm
yep
yeah, there's nothing I can think of off the top of my head other than giving the module a very low weight and adding it to the end of the submit process.
ok, no problem then
I've actually been thinking about adding a couple of more discrete stages (things like a pre-submit prep stage, or a post-submit cleanup stage) that would just consist of a single isset() if nothing is there, but could give modules a change to glomp stuff on.
Not sure if it's overkill, though.
it might be overkill — not sure
if there is a compelling use case for it, then not
ping.
It always feels like cheating to mess with module weights.
pong
anyone know of a patch or module that adds a node's workflow state to the PathAuto module?
Are there any licensing issues / guidelines on icon use? I need to introduce a few icons for a contrib module and am not sure on any implications of my using GPL-ed icon sets.
I notice that the views module uses icons from gnome.
Gnome is GPL'd
At least, the commit message indicates so.
The icon set is, as well
Yes, but it is still "third party".
basically, you should use GPLed icons.
I was under the impression that GPL'd stuff is fine, but explicit 'third party libraries' that raise their own maintenance concerns should be avoided.
icons aren#t code so I don't think there's a real probelme with 3d party icons.
ie, if your icons get out of date, it's not a security hole.
right
I mean, unless you have some REALLY crazy icon…
.
Here's what I don't understand about the GPL icons issue. We seem to allow *very* proprietary icons like Visa's in projects like Ubercart.
Then, won't the same apply to fonts?
If the font is explicitly GPL'd?
do we?
yes.
I would say that the Visa logo shouldn't be in there, then. Hmmm.
I know at least the Ubercart project includes Visa, Mastercart, etc. icons.
that's more of a trademark issue.
do you have DVD region encoding that prevents you from watching US DVDs?
I could make, for exxample, a GPL'd icon of the visa logo myself. and my representation of it would be GPL'd.
They are under copyright and trademark
just hope to ask if it is possible to rename column name "session" from {sessions}? as it is reserved word listed in ANSI SQL-99…
yes :/
But I would not necessarily have the right to *display* it. Because of the trademark issues etc.
It may be GPL'd, but it would still be trademarked.
Good idea. I think there are a few other infringements too.
I can switch regions 3 times or something, and than my Powerbook would refuse to switch back
I can switch regions 3 times or something, and than my Powerbook would refuse to switch back
actually i found this as last ANSI reserved word within core modules
Apple allows you to move 3 times during the life of your Powerbook
why?
checked by oracle and db2 driver ;p
that's insane.
bah.
I think postgres and mysql reserved words should also be killed.
steve@apple.com
ok, I got something for you then: http://buytaert.net/wishlist
sales@apple.com. SImply don't buy crappy stuff. :p
stuff like "timestamp" etc.
it is not easy. for example, oracle come with 37 extra reserved, where DB2 ahve 68 extra, when compare with ANSI
you've only got a few more weeks of being a grovelling PhD student,
so … how are icons different from fonts?
I finished page 146 of my dissertation today
WOO! Congrats!
how many pages in total?
I'm almost there … I have another chapter written which I could add (30 pages) but I thinking of leaving it out
do i understand correctly that the node id is attributed only once the node is really created and that therefore there is no way to access $node-nid on a "Add/Submit My_Nodetype" page?
dunno
so the 'Conclusions' are left
and then probably an unlimited amount of revisions
if you hope to kill all mysql and pgsql reserved word, it is also same meaning as killing all for oracle/db2/mssql/etc… i think it is a bit impossible
I think the difference is that icons are usually somewhere hidden in a huge unrelated software packet. Fonts are usually separatel available.
fantastic.
We could randomly generate column and table names
my research grant expires on October 1st, so I better wrap it up as well
because re: the captcha module, they actually enquired about including GPL-ed fonts and I told them that it would be a no-no.
I'm no expert on the FAPI, so I'm not sure exactly where the problem is, but I am getting this error on the "admin/content/node" page in drupal6:
Missing argument 1 for node_admin_content() in /nfsn/content/tkedev/public/modules/node/node.module on line 1654.
and the page does not render properly, it just says "Array"
Grad students in the states take 7-8 years
are the fonts easily available on the net?
I guess there's too much funding and not enough urgency
in belgium that is not uncommon either
I've been fast-ish
Not surprised
depends on what you are doing… if you use Drupal's hooks, the nid will be made available to you, usually when necessary.
and I had some background experience from being involved with a startup before I went to the university
Yes, they are released by Redhat.
so that gave me a bit of a head start
so tell them do tell people to dl them
That's what I did
good
http://buytaert.net/resume — I'm only using 3 papers to write my dissertation so I could have done it in 3 years probably
fonts can be huge and the cvs repo is already big enough.
Just making sure… So, off I go to check out some GPL'd icon sets.
I've 5+ papers that I won't be using — but that were fun to work on nonetheless
Is there a rule of thumb? Some modules like sifr and textimage are good candidates for bunlding one or two GPL'd fonts, and keeping them at a reasonable size.
truth to be told, I miss being a researcher already
ahm actually it's a nodetype defined with cck, and i don't do anything with hooks myself. i'm just trying to get a cck field automatically filled with string prefix + nodeid
ping
if you've got a second i'd like to ask a favor of you
so how would i get the nodeid there?
sure
the rule of thumb is: Try to avoid bundling stuff.
Maybe by using something like the token module?
i'm hoping you could send me a dump of the project_usage tables so I can make sure what's being collected is sane
if there is an easily accesible download, people shoudl download.
I think someday we're goign to have to make a choice, however.
choice between shich alternatives?
wich
which
darn
drupal-as-a-framework makes a lot of sense with that rule. Drupal as something that normal people can use doesn't. I understand licensing issues, but it's a long-term concern.
I have 0 sympathy for lazy bastards…
we already have enough of an issue with module interdependencies and the "Download this list of 40 projects to make your blog" scenerio
mainly because I am one myself. :p
Maybe "distros" can distribute packaged stuff.
just a joke, right?
the install profiles where meant to fix that.
I'm similarly skeptical of solutions that retrieve offsite stuff for autopackaging, itd be a massive security hold I think.
aside from greggles do we have pathauto geeks in da haus? on update i am losing old aliases despite setttings.
true. though some things like bundling a font (as long as it is of a reasonable size) would be untenable if they aren't allowed in the repo at all.
if the profiles really take off (they don#t seem to) I'll gladly discuss exceptions for packaging profiles.
part-time postdoc?
I'm not arguing that we *should* allow them right now, just that we should acknowledge that a simple choice like that has downstream repercussions.
that's an option — my advisor would love me to stick around — but I'm not sure …
Especially if it isn't explicitly required by GPL sisues
let's research how to make Drupal faster
issues, even. heh
I don't have academic ambitions … although I enjoy being a researcher
I'll gladly deliver concussions if that is what is requested. :p
actually, they might let me do some of that — they're supportive
I might actually be allowed to built a small research team with a handful of phd students working on Drupal-y stuff
yay
I'm just sayin' is all.
I've never asked
I am not even saying you are wrong
and we'd have a lot to contribute
what I am saying is that th CVS layer is not the right layer.
a year ago, I looked up all the ACM and IEEE papers on web site caching and was really dissapointed
The problem is not researching how to make Drupal faster. I alone have limitless optimization ideas. The problem is implementing them.
quite possibly. it's more of a support file, you think, something that doesn't need the versioning etc?
uquite possibly. it's more of a support file, you think, something that doesn't need the versioning etc?/u
yeah
and implementing them in a way that continues to work for the 95% sites
that too
yeah, and I'd probably spend 50% of my time training to obtain funding for the other people in the research team
ouch
why limit yourself to drupal? implement diff in HTTP letting you request a delta between your local cache and the remote server version
yeah, did you notice how much faster the download pages are?
my thesis is drupal-based
you're a phd student as well?
haha
hahaha
that would be charming, would it? A handcrafted answer to your HTTP request
i suspect it would be underappreciated
you know, in the olden' days …
oh wait those aren't racoons
those are Intel Core 2 Duo servers
sorry, my bad.
dell chassis so misleading
no
I use Amazon's mechanical turk for that — I probably have most of the Chinese working for me
hehe
just check that, and you are correct… we also use timestamp (reserved word) in {sessions}…
actually i have not much idea about how to solve the reserved word problem. i means, at least let drupal follow ANSI standard. but this seems a bit difficult too
http://stefannagtegaal.chipin.com/
why are both of them broken?
you designed garland?
and if both of them are broken, how/why are you currently online with a Mac?
I'm at work
as most of the time
yes
I thought you were an individual consultant/photographer
very nice, i had no idea where it'd come from
sorry to hear about your computer troubles though — what happened?
Yes, freelance
Powerpeak, and no insurreance company that gives me my money
I'll look at the patch
crap
yes… absolutely
just replace the power supply?
thanks.
i need a new Mac to continue with work. Without work, no money.. no money, no new Mac.. sort of a circle
+ * numbers that correspond the patterns of wildcards of router items that
corresponds _to_ ?
sure. Please keep on commenting and I will roll the whole thing
It won't help. Apple store today told me it was completely burned inside
EEK! you didn't use a power surge supressor or even better an online ups
