I have upgraded my fc 6 to fedora 7 some time ago and ever since my system has been really fucked Now Im thinking

Does anyone know how to enable the multimedia keys (dell e1705/9400) for Fc7 ? mainly vol up/down/mute ?

error while loading shared libraries: libgtkembedmoz.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Keyboard Shortcuts

will do - when I get to class, Thanks

Anvil you been looking for that one huh??

he's been pasting that message for days -_-

and has been told repeatedly how to fix it

he's a bot.

+1

__CC__, no thanks, i am a happily married man with children, i dont want to cyber

hi

Southern_Gentlem, lol

vader1102, best way to learn

lol evil_steve she has to take my blood so it aint that bad
thanx anyhow

did someone say blood?

vader1102, you didnt upset her this morning did you?
one air bubble is all it takes for her to be a widow
one air bubble is all it takes for her to be a widow

how can i check the version of my running fedora?
(I'm @ the konsole

zotkop cat /etc/issue

woah thx

zotkop, Also check "uname -a"

can somebody tell me where is the folder to put icon themes?
i already know thanks anyway :p

hers :
oops

is there something like apt-spy for yum?

what is apt-spy ?

ahttp://www.google.be/search?hl=nl&q=apt-spy&meta=

?

a tool to optimize your package downloader to use the fastest mirrors? "yum install yum-fastestmirror"

i did that one too, it came out this "Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
" nothing is happening

yum-fastest mirror watches mirror performance as you use yum
so it may take a few yum transactions before it starts to affect your download speeds

so you mean i have to type "pirut" a few times to take effect?

you may have to install/update a few packages for it to take effect
as you download stuff through yum, the fastestmirror plugin will continue to collect speed data, so it will continually be updating

EarthVoid, no use yum update

but i can't update, it keeps on asking me for my root passwrd after i entered it a yellow small icon in my panel just beside the clocktime appeared and asked me this
"You're currently authorized to configure system-wide settings (that affect all users) without typing the administrator password again. You can give up this authorization."

so you started pruit as well

2 choice keep authorization or forget authorization
yes

forget

because i cant update my packages

yes you can if you have some patence

i chose forget but nothing is happening

open terminal
su - (notice the minus)
yum update

how do i install yum?

you have yum already installed

pornholio, uname -r

i did that already. i updated my yum

EarthVoid, do you want help or do you want to argue

i want help. but i did update it several times. ok will update it again

2.6.20-1.2962.fc6 is what i get when I do uname -r
I just removed yum..; :p

pornholio, why

trial & error noobish ^^

go to a mirror with fc6 updates and download the yum rpm

here it is

and then come back

[root@localhost ~]# yum update
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion

EarthVoid, ok now never paste to the channel again
use the pastebin

ok sorry

EarthVoid, uname -r
what packages do you think need updating

im sori but i have no idea. i was just wondering why can't i update my packages. its working the last time i updated

EarthVoid, uname -r

done, 2.66.22.1-41.fc7

then you don't need updates
or, at least not your kernel

hold on i am checking a mirror
EarthVoid, rpm -q spamassassin

done, spamassassin 3.2.3-1.fc7

you are updated

how bout when im adding/removing software. i still need to run pirut

no

add/remove software. pirut still need to be accessed

no one says you have to do that now do they
yes that is a link to pruit
no one says you have to use pruit

ok, i think i need to know how to add/remove software iwhout using that
without*

yum yumex etc
yum is a rpm frontend
pruit is a gui yum frontend
yumex is a gui yum frontend
so anytime you are having problems with the gui tools use the cli tools

so i have to use yum when installing softwares

one way or another yes

thanks

EarthVoid, myself i use yum daily
i only use yumex if i am looking for a certain application
i dont like pruit

when updating? i will also use yum?

yes
yum update

by typing "yum update"?

man yum will give you more infomation of what yum can do

how about fedora packages?

what about fedora packages

why kind of job can you get with a govt degree?

updating fedora packages

yes

its included in "yum update" command?

EarthVoid, take a deep breath and ask the question you are trying to ask

hehe

what is a govt degree?

EarthVoid, yum update goes and and looks at the fedora updates repo

ohh.. i get it now. im quite slow. hehe

if there is updates for the packages on your computer it tells you and asks if you want to update them

i will never have to use pirut again

that is up to you

well, as i can see now. i don't need it anymore

You can use the updates daemon as well

PinTail_b, one step at a time

hehe, give me some time

is there any special syntax to setting the metric of an interface using ifconfig?
I know it is said that linux doesn't pay attention to this field but…
I need to play with this for some NLB testing

metric N' keeps returning operation not supported

DFT and you have read the man page for ifconfig

yes I have read the man page
that's a given
based on what is said, my above example should work

i just got a new server in from DELL a PE1950 with FC6 bare bone install and for some reason im unable to ping other host. I have iptables turned off my eth0 interface is up. What else should I troubleshoot?

slackerz, how are you getting your ip

run netstat -rn, check if you have a line with UG, that will denote your default gateway

slackerz, how are you getting your ip
static or dhcp

nm we figured it out for some reason it made eth0 be eth1

ok

just had to plug it in the second etherent interface.

slackerz also read the following
http://wiki.ncsa.uiuc.edu/wiki/Dell_PE1950_NIC_Firmware_Workaround
I had this issue with PE1950's released earlier this year

we wer ein panic mode for a few =0p

np

Can I make sudo have a PATH with /usr/sbin and /sbin in it?

i have two dsl line and how do i load balance traffic using fedora linux as a router?

according to the sudo manpage, you should add the -i switch

or you could just add them to your normal users path.

im trying to access errno.h , it says permission denied. why is that

how are you trying to access it?

kelvin^9^: go read lartc

/usr/include/asm/errno.h

I meant, with what? Are you trying to open it with an editor, are you trying to copy it with the cp command?

im just trying to read it

with what tool?

nothing, i just typed /usr/include/asm/errno.h

the errno.h you should include is the /usr/include/errno.h one.

so the OS try to execute it, and hence your permission denied since it's not an executable ?

what did you expect that to do? It isn't a program.

try just "less /usr/include/asm/errno.h"

sorry. just new here.
ahh. so i cant access it because its not an executable

what are you trying to do ?

when you are using the shell, you have to tell it what you want to do with a file. If you just type in the filename it tries to run it as a program

the first "thing" in the command is expected to be a program to run; if it's not executable you get an error

ah. i see
i was just curious, im reading rute that's why i tried to access errno.h

what's 'rute' ?

http://rute.2038bug.com/

yes that's it.

Wow, that's a hell of a reference …..how is it I've never heard of it before ?

thats something you have to answer for yourself PinTail_b

you live in a cave?
Mom's Basement?

Ive lived in a cave…. of course I had wireless
no EvilBob

Like a good cheese

Is there an F7 rpm available for compiz-fusion?

J-23: no

I almost went with some friends to an archeological dig in Israel last summer and I would have lived in a cave for a year.

lol

but…
which reminds me they should be back soon
my head hurts. ah yes the reason i dont go on digs any more

OK, so rute has a pretty good table of contents, but does it live up to it ?

:|

it is good, starting to be a little bit dated
but still quite good

Who knows /dev here? When I tried to copy /dev/console, I have been flooded with Enters :/

anybody know a text-based audio-player capable of playing m3u playlists

what do you mean copy /dev/console ?

cp /dev/console

Why would you do that?

I need this device for my minidistro…

Use mknod.

why isn't it created dynamically ?

anybody know a text-based audio-player capable of playing m3u playlists? Please Anybody?

I believe mplayer will

text based eh?

f_newton, with no gui ^^ console app
ill try mplayer

well B4ckBOne what I do is google what I want and magically I get directions to what Im looking for! its great

Thanks.

I know what text basd is B4ckBOne but thanks

oh so now youre lecturing me f_newton
ok

B4ckBOne, my suggestion is to go with a distro that is especially text based if thats what you want. like sarge

mpd/mpc

I, and this is just my opinion B4ckBOne, think that taking a fully integrated gui operating system and stripping it down to be a text based os is silly.

f_newton, no thats not what i want .. im a pretty advanced user but sometimes i need to use text based shells to be able to do developing of apps which periodically crash the x apache geronimo server hosting … while doing that i like listening to musc
:-)
since the x servers crashing on me all the time, its not possible to listen to it while working ^^

there are several text based media players.

well just because you are operating from a text shell doesnt mean the rest of your system cant work at full potential, unless you want to start in text mode
ahhhh
thats the reason
so what video card are you using?

but why not operate on another tty

Im not an advanced user… just an ancient one
even if I am using the -61 kernel

so use mpd

I want to find out why his x server keeps crashing

yeah, that would be better

he already told you

did he?
hmmm where was I at the time?
lol

yes, but you're not paying attention

as usual.
duh
I listened when it came to wifi AndyCap

after a while.

lol well I replaced my broadcom with an intel pro wireless AndyCap and it works great
thats another story
ahh app development is causing x server crash
I also have a great usb wifi dongle that works as well so I am truly mobile now
I also have t3 gateway hardware if ever I have to tap in to a trunk
I also have t3 gateway hardware if ever I have to tap in to a trunk

is there anyway to get the default gw to not bind to lo by default (in FC5 btw)

t3, stupid american 7-bit crap.

***bet that's covered in Rute !!!!

hey it was free AndyCap
yeah stupid american crap… like the internet hey a british postal worker invented email though and it was that and the us dept of defense that gave us the internet

Why is file-roller trying to open a .txt file with mplayer?

everything, even an executable is a txt file isnt it?
the internet is like lasagna… 7 layers of cheeze

B4ckB0ne, mplayer with the -playlist option should work
InsomniaCity, probably due to a mimetype association setup in gnome to open plain/text with mplayer

where can I edit that/

ummmm….

DFT - what gateway would you want it to bind to - or none ?

gconf editor maybe

howto update fedora FC4-FC5 (Error: Package php51-ftp needs libcrypto.so.5, this is not available.)

update or upgrade ?

InsomniaCity… right click on a text file in Nautilus or the desktop right click, select properties and then change things in the open with tab

Strange - I don;'t see any entries for lo when I run "route -n"

upgrade

jacekowski, can you temporarily remove that package and then add it back after the upgrade is done?

lol

me too (on fedora), on gentoo i have "127.0.0.0 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 lo"

jacekowski, it doesnt matter fc4 and fc5 are EOL

done that - file-roller still behaves differently

besides, php51 isn't in FC4. you install 3rd party packages you should know how to fix them

i have about ~50 similar errors

kdekorte's suggestion is on the right track. but removing the 3rd party packages and moving to a release that ships with the software you need is better

InsomniaCity does right clicking on the file in file-roller and selecting open-with give you any options

PHP 5.0.4 (cli) (built: Nov 8 2005 08:27:12)
i don't have any 3rd party packages

jacekowski, so you did it from source

php51 came from fc5

right. so where did Package php51-ftp needs come from?

ewww… don't mix distros like that, upgrade if you need it

nope.

rpm -Uhv ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/fedora-release-5-5.noarch.rpm

rpm -qi php51-ftp gives you what?

mhm

haha, somebody's running plesk and should go crying to their vendor insead
instead

ok are we done laughing @ jacekowski now

http://www.atomicrocketturtle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=855&view=previous&sid=a25b808ea347277d8be89a289ba07579

That looks like a big mess…

kdekorte, plesk=BIG PITA MESS

I had never heard of it until now.. I think that is ok to not know about it

How can I open a programme from konsole with other user?
*from onather user

sudo?

big pita commercial, best left to the vendor to support their own crap mess.

Argiris - use sudo, or su

kdekorte, you have heard me use the term bastardized fedora
that is a prime example

atrpms = bastardized fedora apps
definition #2

how do you make sudo keep the X permissions so that you can run an X app as another user… I use ssh -X localhost 'cmd' to work around that, I'm sure there is something better

Try kdesu.

yeah, if you start using alternate repos getting a messed up os is pretty easy
kdesu on gnome?

Oh, I assumed from your nick/terminal that you were using KDE- heh.

but if you mess up your os by using alternate repos, I think that is your own fault

supposedly pam_xauth should take care of that already if you do "su" dunno about su -

no.I want to run a programme without the root permitions

ricky, kdekorte is my name not my preferred DE

Never mind, I mixed you up with Argiris too- my apologies.

np, it happens a lot

I think there's gksu in GNOME. Hmm.

so how I open a program from console without the root privilege ?

depends on the program
what program are you wanting to run

Argiris, I've used "shh -X user@localhost appname" with good success…

Argiris, what program are you wanting to run

ssh not shh
you'll need the users password to do that however
I've seen people run firefox that way to keep it isolated from their home directory

But yeah, the kdesu was for you, Argiris.

Argiris, what exactly are you trying to do

I want to run pidgin without the root priviledge

Don't even login as root.

are you logged in as root?

always

pidgin runs fine as user

You should be logged in as a normal user, and only use sudo/su/kdesu, etc. when you need root privileges.

why do you login with root?

Argiris, also you should NEVER log into irc as root

most things don't need that kinda rights

many administrations jobs…

That is why firstboot makes you create a normal user when you first install.
Use su/sudo for those.

no

Argiris, yes

login as your id and then 'sudo su - ' to get a root shell

why is cvs a dependency for git? amusing.

Basically, you are running more stuff than necessary with root privileges. That is considered very dangerous.

I can't .All my work is as root

yes you can

I think git has tools to convert from/to CVS or something.

you dont need to be running as root
you just need to do it

There is never a good reason to be logged in as root. With su/sudo, you can still do anything you need as root.

sure. and those tools should have cvs dependencies. but git itself shouldn't

I don't have normal user….

you should only rarely need to login or su to root, most other tasks can be performed via sudo
so, create one

I guess you can ask the packager about that

Argiris, the way you are administrating your boxes is against the industry standards

update your sudoers
or make him a member of 'wheel' - which ever is the flavour of the month

so if this box is a business and it get broken into you may be personally liabile
so if this box is a good hosting services for my business and it get broken into you may be personally liabile
is stupidity a reason to ban

hello

Why would I want to use Fedora?

you don't
have a good day

if you did you wouldnt ask that troll question

go back to ubuntu where you will feel safe

I have never used Fedora. I was wondering why should I give it a try.

1) if you want to get a corporate job as a linux admin fedora is a good way to get your feet wet

what have you used?

the only reason ubuntu users ever use Fedora is so they can complain about it, we really are starting to wish you would just not bother.

because most corporations if they are running linux are useing redhat

I'd say because we have an excellent community
Well, as long as you ask the right questions, that is

new to linux? or just to fedora?

s34n, I have been running debian, gentoo and ubuntu so far.

s34n, do a whois on him

is there some reason you are unhappy with those?

I always seek for alternatives
well, every of these systems serves some kind of purpose

ok. then the #1 reason to use fedora is because it is an alternative to those.

I was wondering how Fedora can be competetive on desktop platform

fijam, just like gnome or kde different strokes for different folks if you want to give fedora a try will help you

Fedora is Free, doing questionable things is not as easy as you are used to, more hoops to jump through for things like closed source drivers or patent encumbered items

fijam, to answer that question you need to try it yourself

I see, that's what I intend to do anyway.

Hi
I just installed FC7, and tried following the directions to get compiz-fusion on my system
I installed the packages in the howto, but I don't have a compiz-manager, any hints?

"the directions" what directions?

contact the author of that howto

http://www.unix-tutorials.com/tutorials.php?os=Fedora+Core

frb, compiz-fusion is not part of Fedora yet
nirik, tell them to fix the rpms
to say f7 and not fc7

fix what? the fedora collection rpms?
stands for fedora collection now.

Doing so will break upgrades.

f7

that's what epochs are for :P

nirik, i know the reason but you can see why people still say core

No, that's abuse of epochs.

no, epochs are to be avoided.

lol

I know, you could make it fd7 and totally win

I sent an email to fedoraos.org but now there's a webform to fill out. Should I just reorder and say "disregard the email" or will my email services spam free request be grandfathered as a new request?

See, now that isn't an awful idea.

sure… but with enough correcting people will get it someday.

in the last 10 minutes who said core

Now post it to the list and get it ratified.

It says no on "multiple submissions" but I dunno if that counts a 7 day old email.

That's the *real* challenge.

hey, I used to use suse, but after 10.0 it's gone downhill

nirik, i see a weblink that frb posted that says fedora-core

yeah, thats what I saw…

I don't know anything about red hat since 9.0?
I hated the original fedora

Fedora 1 is pretty muhc like red hat 9. I'd stay away from it though if you have a CMedia sound card built into your motherboard
unless you install a different kernel like I did

I have FC7 installed, I just want compiz-fusion

saw kageshenshi's blog ?

it didn't come up in my search, got a url?

frb /join #compiz-fusion

http://blog.kagesenshi.org/

Anyways, does my old email count as a submission that I shouldn't repeat? Or should I just resubmit using the webform and say to disregard the email?

don't think anyone here knows. ask opsec perhaps?

opsec?
COuld you direct me I've never heard of him/her/it

it's a nick. right here …

*scolls down* oh yeah…nevermind

if you've already reqested fedora it's been sent

Is 7.90 the same as 8 test 1?

where are you located?

yes.

thansk

Pasco, WA 99301 USA

thanks

I'm not sure if my previous request was formatted properly. Do humans process them?

damnit
i have not been able to use either f7 or f8 test 1
because whenever they boot and get to the 'starting udev' bit on boot-up, it hangs until i eject my pcmcia card

that one was sent

now, it works great in fc6

Log a bug.

am i the only person have this issue? i haven't been able to find ANYTHING on google about it

you should definitely have it by now, as it came from portland

where can i log bugs?

which is why you should search bugzilla.redhat.com and if you can' find anything, post a new bug

hmm…is it small enough to stick in a mailbox?

yes

I don't know peanuts about signing for packages and I've been off camping for the last few days

i have never had someone not get the package .. even in remote places in the world

ah, now I have the compiz lovin

Hi people, quick question.. I have just installed compiz fusion from the kagesenshi repo, which works great.. but it doesn't obey ccsm.. I have tried removing the gconf settings from the fedora7 main repo compiz.. I'm using the fusion-icon to start it..

Ok…so if it isn't there in another week, should I just reorder?

you need to c heck around
ask your postman .. this should have arrived the next day

Ok, so I tried getting some stuff from livna, and it's going like, ultra slow.

as in arrived 1 day(s) after being ordered?

if you honestly haven't received it, i'll be very surprised
yes, since i live very close to you

you're the one who delivers them then?

I'm monitering the connection, and sometimes, the line is even going idle.

it takes only one day for mail to go from portland to tri-cities

Is there any way to cancel the download at the point it's at but still keep the already downloaded files?

wow. now you're santa-claus. delivering cd's all over the world in one day.

haha

lol

not all over the world in a day
but i just happen to live in Shentino's neighborhood

"you're the one who delivers them then?"

Hmm…do you keep any sort of request log? I DEFINITELY should have received it by now…so either you didn't send it, the postal service fubar'ed, or someone's been pilfering my mailbox

i sent it. 110% positive

so now he knows where you live. :P

turn around
i'm standing right behind you

Screw IRC, let's do facetalk
:P

please ask your post person if they remember delivering it ..

I'll ask if I can catch them.
Mind if I reorder if something screwy happened?

if not, resubmit and you'll be the first person who has not received it

ok, thanks.
Here I was expecting to wait a good 4 weeks

even people in russia, africa and israel receive them fine

now THAT's reliable.
Maybe there's some jealous nerd on my block who raided my mailbox

lol

it's in a square bubble envelope

even in places where they use OX carts

secure your mailbox use firewall + selinux

I'd definitely do that if I could.

why ?
iptables is in the kernel itsefl
service iptables start

Some gremlin was leaving my mailbox lid open.
Ok, opsec. I'll check. If it's not there, I'll reorder.
thanks for the info btw.

oh you talking of real life
i thought computer life
ma bad

please don't abuse this free service, do an honest check and make sure you haven't overlooked it first
i understand the post office loses things
but more often , people overlook

I plan on checking the mailbox, and then asking the postal service.

Hi

But I know for certain I did not remove it from the mailbox, so either it didn't arrive or someone stole it.

download it man

no, problem just letting you know

do you live in jungles of africa ?
you get it faster by downloading
or ask a local lug

I don't have internet at home :P
not even 56K dialup

lol

What kinds of web development programs are available for Linux?

where you live ?
waht you mean ?

Like I said, Pasco WA 99301 USA

USA and no internet strange

Southern_Gentlem, I am finally back lol. she passed that test

I'm internet ready, just can't afford an ISP that's all.

not so strange really if he's not in a city

– starving college student with hardly any money

he lives in village

I'd say suburban

i want to hook up a web server, i have everything set up, but i was wondering what programs to use to develop the web pages. When I was using Windows, i use Microsoft Visual Web Developer.

but no cash == no internet no matter where you are

nvu

unless you have wireless

Vim or text editor of your choice

yeah it sucks when there's no internet

he lives in a fairly large 3 city area around a major river

go outside some of the star bucks cafe they have sometimes wireless

I don't have a wireless card either :P

lol man

i used to have dial-up, we were going to get DSL, but the stupid Verizon people lied to us and said we could get their DSL service in a few months… 2 years ago, so we gave up waiting and got Comcast high-soeed Internet

and it's not like I can bring my desktop into a coffee shop and plug it in anyway
band it's not like I can bring my desktop into a coffee shop and plug it in anyway/b
….would like to try here
– using public internet terminal at local library

oh okay

Lol, I *did* take my computer with me on a recent weekend camping trip though

i ddint know they allowed IRC at the library

some of them do

I'm using a java applet from pjirc

Doug52392, they do in my area, both of them

hows your uplink ?

**GAG**

i would think that any college computer lab would allow you to download any linux distro
many host some version or another

Not mine. downloading that much crap hogs bandwidth

you mean my connection speeds?

The local sysadmin already gave me a verbal warning.

Shentino, what college do you go to public or private

dunno what you mean. It's a state institution

i'd like to go sit in that lab and see what warning he gives me

Columbia Basin College

opsec; you could mail him a disc

do they still do hydroplane races on the columbia ?

downhillgames, he has

Just had one a week or two ago I think

oh

Had a bit of trouble with sponsor funding :P

Shentino, how cost are you to WSU
close are you to wsu

i used to live in kennewick, i know exactly where you are

oh snap, my computer time's up.
Chat later, bye

i once downloaded a 4gb Linux distro on DVD on my high school's computers a few months before we got high-speed Internet, the sysadmin must have though i was watching streaming videos or something with all that bandwich and blocked the web page i downloaded it off of (it was one of the main
download pages for many linux hosting distros), the reason it says its blocked on the firewall: "Games/Entertaiment"

Yow, I guess you'll have to complain to them, then

public schools will block everything and anything

Linux isn't a game but it can be entertaining at times.

i've never been to such a poor college

Doug52392; yeah. the old filter was easily overcome by using an IP address instead of the domain. lawl.

bandwidth or what pages you visit has never been a concern, i've been to at least 5 universities

I drew a line on my screen to measure the progress of the download, and when I got back after 30 minutes, nothing changed.

downhillgames, mine ? i am working on the last 2 now

Southern_Gentlem; are they XP or server boxes?

xp

if you say vista ima smack you
haha ok

It's going at less than 30kibs.
I need to stop this yum download.

i think i counted 112 updates for XP the other day

then lie and give stupid reasons for blocking them. They even use Group Policy to keep the brand new HP computers look like they run Windows 95 and restrict changing ANYTHING, not even your backround image

on a new install… and it was like 7 reboots w/ drivers
Southern_Gentlem; do you listen to Pink Floyd?

if I close the pirut window with stuff still downloading, will it just put the rpms downloaded so far in the /tmp/ directory or will their program files still exist on my computer?
Cuz this is just fscking crazy.

Andrico.. usually they are store in /var/cache/yum or something

where do i download nvu?

downloaded rpms go to /var/cache/yum

ok, cool.

use yumex

yumex is the bomb

yum is what I usually use, but I needed to install a multitude of stuff.

better yet, use the command line for updates

yeah

where do I download Nvu?

i think i still have a package i made

where do i get Nvu?

3 hours for 350 mb
jeez

Doug52392, If you find one, tell me where. I like NVU

rpm -ivh http://fedoraos.org/rpms/nvu-1.0-0.1.i386.rpm

Will the nvidea rpms have 3d?

Andrico, what video card

yeah, I know.
But I think last time I actually got the drivers from nvidea

yeah you know what

and I didn't have to stop x.

yes you did

Andrico, do what you like but my suggestion is to listen to Southern_Gentlem

ok

Andrico, what video card

make/model?

yes

jinx I owe ya a coke Southern_Gentlem

lspci if you dont know

EVGA 7100 and a whole bunch of other stuff

paste the output of lspci

opsec, thanx for the NVU link…… awesome to finally have it.

This is from my papers
….

Where can i find one of those system status scripts?

What is the command for video card info?

Doug52392, no idea…. I would try google.
Andrico, Southern_Gentlem already said to paste the output of lspci into pastebin

scroll

Andrico, stop that

I was getting my info from my papers.
I didn't actually run a command in the terminal
My reciepts.

Andrico, the … is annoying and spamming the channel for no reason

howdy fedora folks

apologies

Hi people, quick question.. I have just installed compiz fusion from the kagesenshi repo, which works great.. but it doesn't obey ccsm.. I have tried removing the gconf settings from the fedora7 main repo compiz.. I'm using the fusion-icon to start it..

anyone use fedora for a FS ?

but you wanted me to paste lspci and the bash tells me that command doesn't exist.

Andrico - prepend with /sbin/

ah
like fdsik, ok

fd87, contact kagesenshi
or /j #compiz-fusion

ok, shall try, thanks

http://rafb.net/p/mIbD9h89.html

erm, compiz fusion might be completely broken atm
because Compiz core changed radically the way options are handled and Fusion is in transition stage

ah, I see

so if you are using both compiz and fusion git HEADs…

I did read something about the alterations being made on the blog
I didn't think the repo would be that close to HEAD

well, it might be another problem

could be.. I shall just wait & update

fd87, untill compiz-fusion get in fedora there is nothing we can really do for you
bfd87, untill compiz-fusion get in fedora there is nothing we can really do for you/b
Andrico, for future reference you have a geforce 7100 gs

that's ok, beryl is just as cool.. I just enjoy the new shift switch *coverflow * and screensaver plugins..

ok thanks

the kmod-nvidia from livna should work fine

should I do the standard?
oh, ok
i know
I just did all of that
making sure I did the correct one

vader1102, help him go to runlevel 3 and run system-config-display –reconfig please

ahh capgadget a local boy
ugh this cold is miserable

Southern_Gentlem, sorry am working on wireless who am I helping?
is it Andrico ?

yep but he has gotten quiet so nm

ok, sorry for the delay

sorry?
what?

it was to Southern_Gentlem Andrico

oh

oh I hate broadcom lol

what will I need to do with system-config-display –reconfig?

it will reconfigure your video display

Andrico, did you read the web page that Southern_Gentlem pointed you to?

yes
but I have to do something right now so I can't restart x just yet.

vader1102, I fixed my broadcom problem

hi folks

Andrico, you need to boot into runlevel 3 as root do a system-config-display –reconfig to get the new nvidia driver in your xorg.conf

Where are the configuration files and root files stored for Lighttpd?

f_newton, how……. I am working on mine

I've setup an ircd on my linux box, but it says "All connections in use!" when theres only 1018 users.. (although unrealircd.conf has limit of 80K). I have done "ulimit -n 12345" but its still max 1018.. any idea what I can try?

You *don't* need to be in RL3 to run s-c-d –reconfig.
You just need to be at a text console.

I bought the proper intel pro wireless mini pci e card vader1102

ughhhhhh smarty

You can even run it while logged in.

I ran it from the terminal last night for a different purpose, no problem, and when I rebooted it was back to normal.

i had problems with my Linksys WMP54G wireless card, i fixed it with ndiswrapper though.

hey vader i have a brand new bcm 943xx card for ya if you want it….. lol

lol this one is pretty new thanx f_newton

yeah its not like they get a whole lot of use vader1102

I will get it f_newton it is all according to if I have sanity when I get it lol

just remember vader1102 to buy the appropriate bios fixed card for your brand of pc
well good luck. my time is worth more then that

where are the configuration files stored for Lighttpd web server? and where is the root directory for all the web pages?

I know lol……… same here, but I do this sort of thing to keep my blog active and to keep mu coleagues on their toes lol

lenovo and HP have put a bios lock in their machines

I have an HP DV9201 lappy but it was working with FC6 amd 64

anyone who intentionally ships broadcom doesnt deserve toes

hi all - i'm trying to install a local rpm with yum through 'yum localinstall libmad-0.15.1b-4.fc7.i386.rpm' but i'm getting this error message: "Public key for libmad-0.15.1b-4.fc7.i386.rpm is not installed".

ahhh you have the amd… your only choice is broadcom or an external usb stick

f_newton, yup lol, so I am really trying during my time off from work lol

lol good luck vader1102

how do i add web pages to my web server?

you can disable gpgcheck in /etc/yum.conf

niac, no idea what to tell you there….. one of the smarter folks would have to help you lol

vader1102, you may try isolating the ubuntu driver for broadcom and re packaging it for fedora

ok, so assuming I have to do this without x, how do I reconfigure with system-config-display –reconfig?

EvilBob, what is gpgcheck?

the ubuntu driver was written by dell and broadcom,

the per repo settings over rides that if enabled
look at the /etc/yum.conf file

or rather, what commands will I need.

I am looking at that one now lol

maybe you can find a reverse alien app?

Andrico, su - password

ok

then type in what you just did

ok
so I don't need to exit x?

you really think there is a password user on her system?

yes you do

ty Southern_Gentlem
maybe lol EvilBob

ctl-alt-bkspc Andrico

well that is what you just suggested

f_newton, its better if they reboot into 3

maybe you should read the su man page

trying it.

egads! read??? drastic measures there EvilBob

hey all..

EvilBob, it seems to be ok now ; thanks !

Im setting ulimit -n by doing "ulimit -n 12345", but when I logout and log back in.. it seems to have reset to default (1024) — any idea how I can fix that?

cool

I am getting better at reading the man pages when something stumps me instead of just asking lol. Learn more that way.

/etc/security/limits.conf

thanks!!

is there a java plugin for firefox in the repositories?

No.

I fail.

so i need to use the jre from sun's site?

5 generations local f_newton except for that 10 years living in Yankee territory and 4 months coding and fornicating in Brazil.

hi

telinit 3 was not found.

/sbin/telinit 3

oh jeez.

pmcnabb, you will have to go through the motions and install java separately and manually

su –login

sbin probably isn't in your path.

i know it is
isn't*

/sbin/

capgadget, yeah my family still has the letter from santa anna granting settlement rights

jeez

su –login

I should know that by now
I've done the login.

but I live in far north dallas now

http://fedorasolved.org/Members/downhillgames/change-the-default-path-for-users/

"su" does not get you root's path

after Ive edited /etc/security/limits.conf.. how do I apply the settings?

First bunch here fled to Texas from Mississippi to avoid going to the reservation in Oklahoma.

when i do "java –version" i see that it's gij (GNU libgcj). what will installing sun's java stuff do?

ahhh yer an Indian then? Im a resettled boy during the St Louis push west
give you java on your browser etdc

I don't recall if the sun java puts a symbolic link in /usr/bin or not

uh etc

can you delete the file that downhillgames just linked to

no

ususally rename the gij java to things like java.alt

you make a symbolic link when following fedorasolved instructions

EvilBob; 1) get out of my space. i wrote it. 2) why?

Just 1/8th f_newton, from the knees down.

because it is stupid and does not teach the users a damn thing

lol
yeah Im butthead from the waste up so we're even capgadget

EvilBob; you need to shut up and learn your place.

Someone snuck into the teepee is the way the story goes.

EvilBob; it's not supposed to _teach_ anything. it's supposed to fix a _stupid_ PATH Fedora sets.

yeah Im a mixed breed from west bendover myself

EvilBob; as far as Southern_Gentlem goes, he asked me to write it. i hate that site.

fine I will learn my place, how about I delete your account and ban your IP from the server

Only had one great aunt that stayed traditional.

EvilBob; if you could do that, why would you ask Southern_Gentlem to remove it?

EvilBob, just because you have the power doesnt mean you should use it….

great great aunt rather.

because it is his job

EvilBob; it's not anything malicious and it's in my user files. bite me.

I have edited /etc/security/limits.conf, but after I relogin to the box again.. "ulimit -n" still outputs 1024 — any idea how I can edit this limit permanently?

LOL maybe I'll join the tribe and try to get merkeyxy booted out.

capgadget, I was told you needed 1/4 blood to do that

EvilBob if you find something dangerous about it yes i can but otherwise lets bring it up in a meeting

No 0%. theyhave no blood quantum. Just have to do the geneology. Tribes like the Choctaw want 50%.

brohken, you around?

Hawks.

heh all my people want to know is if the maternal blood line follows jewish geneology
one slip up n yer outa there …. lol

Yep my sisters kids are 1/2 "jewish" on their dads side. Sort of confusing.

so…
*kids*

Southern_Gentlem; frankly i feel attacked of sorts. to say something harmless and actually helpful to those who want to use it to be deleted….

yes Anvil
?

not you. NOt today at least.

I guess they haven't fixed the dependencies for i386 kdelibs and kdebase yet.

i just installed KDE… works for me.

libHalf libIlmIMf libjasper libsmbclient
x86_64 will install with rpm -Uvh -f

cant you just get civilized ?

lol

I have kde messed up somehow the desktop points to /

hey, an apology would go a long way.

Haven't looked to see how to change it.

downhillgames, from both sides

EvilBob, is a good ol boy…. (emphasis on old)

Funky install F7 as an update then the 2GB yum update method. Not recommended.

downhillgames, your posts doesnt use our template which we have talked about
bdownhillgames, your posts doesnt use our template which we have talked about/b

Probably need to RTFM.

there's a paths section in kcontrol

Thanks wolsni. Thought I had KDEDIR set.

I added a paragraph to your post, see if you find that acceptable please.

if i install sun's java 6 jdk/jre, will that cause any problems with dependencies / other programs? (eclipse, etc)
java 5 is the fedora default

EvilBob; delete it.

you can shortcut to it with "kcmshell desktoppath"
KDEDIR is something different

Thanks. I spent 30 minutes consulting the oracle at google and didn't see it.

If i can see your point, the way is bad, though. You should avoid editing /etc/profile. It's a whole-system change. One can just edit his ~/.bash_profile to do the same thing for himself.

pmcnabb, do what?

adding path can't kill anything.
it's harmless. i'm not discussing it further.

java 5 is the fedora default???

Making it a system-wide change is not a good idea though.

well, actually, it can make consolehelper fail, if /usr/sbin comes before /usr/bin

hence why it's not an officially-accepted document.
it's deleted drop it
get out of my face

y'all back off now n take slow deep breaths…. yer actually all friends ya know?

indeed

I see it now wolsni kcontrol System Adminsitration/Paths
It's currently blank thus I guess that is why it is using /

when i tpye the command cp -i telephone.list phone.list mu shell overwrites the file without prompting me fpr approval 1st how do i fix this?
uwhen i tpye the command cp -i telephone.list phone.list mu shell overwrites the file without prompting me fpr approval 1st how do i fix this?/u

brb need to give this a try.

i read man cp and -i is supposed to prompy u fort approval before overwrithing the file

^Cowboy^: what does 'alias cp' say?

i am trying to set an alias that will always echo $alias cp?
sorry disregard
how do i find what alias cp says

that's a command, type it into your shell

do i echo $alias cp?

just type "alias cp"

alias cp='cp -i'

so you see what you did

?

if you had cp blah /blah/blah it would have asked you
because you typed cp -i it really did cp -i -i which turned off that switch
because you typed cp -i it really did cp -i -i which turned off that switch

dahh I'm so dumb
it did
southern_gent is right thats exactly what I did

wolsni, test it

so next time "cp -i -i … …"
LOL

hi..

on off on…

i want work with iptables, what i need to do ?

i just did and it prompted me

o0

What does this Yum Error mean? "ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:"

it works if i just type cp telephone phine

"cp -i -i foo foo2" does switch off on my machine …

yes but set your alias to alias cp='cp _i' and then try cp -i blah /blah/blah

for any number of '-i' i'm getting "cp: overwrite `foo2'?

does bash do aliases both ways or something?
so cp -i gets replaced with a plain cp?

they cancel on my machine

cp (GNU coreutils) 6.9

hey southern_gent dont boot me out no more please

ivazquez ?

^Cowboy^, what's yours?

Just being proactive. He's being an asshat in various other channels.

r5i have mu alias set to alias cp='cp -i'

huhu

whats my waht niac?

your cp –version

whats my what?

^Cowboy^, i didnt ban you for being a putz

are u saying im a putz?
dem's foightn wurds

do you want to push the issue

no

pardon my english slang ignorance, what's a putz ?

lol

doing something stupid

dayum slang.. show some respect for non-native English speakers, this channel is international

like i did with the cp command
roflmao

A putz is someone who plays D&D 24/7 LOL.

man ps
oops wrong window

where yum store downloaded rpm's?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Putz

/var/cache/yum

ivazquez try yum list

You *are* a putz.

wont that list all installed packages?

That's not what was asked.

which has nothing to do with where yum stores downloaded rpms

lol

well I assumed the info in /var/cache/yum is a list of all installed packages

it's quite a bit more than that
that directory is where yum stores its cache, temporary metadata files, etc, and where it holds the rpms it downloads prior to installing them

^Cowboy^, know dont assume

a few other things too.

time for me to shut up and watch and learn

yep

hey, if you're not occasionally wrong, you can't learn from experience

I have upgraded my fc 6 to fedora 7 some time ago, and ever since my system has been really fucked. Now I'm thinking about doing a clean install of 7, but if I do that, without reformatting, will I be able to keep the stuff I have in /home and other custom files ?

LOL
do you have /home on a separate partition?
or, do you have a way to move /home TO a separate partition or drive
bor, do you have a way to move /home TO a separate partition or drive/b

yes, I've got / and /home as 2 partitions

much easier to blow away the OS and reinstall once you have that in place

but I have /laptop that I'd also like to keep, and it wont fit on the /home partition

that's what dvd/RW drives are for

I'd normally just burn it to dvd to be safe, but guess what doesn't work now :/

doh
had that happen to me with FC5 when I wanted to upgrade to FC6 — every time I tried burning it, something'd caused the drive functionality to fail
you could boot from the LiveCD and then make your backup of the bits of filesystem you want to keep
(I think)

why would system message bus cause boot up to be very long

that's not a bad idea at all !

acpi driver, hardware, dns, anything.

when is fedora 8 out, perhaps I should wait so I dont have to upgrade again

another thing you might want to know about is Mondo — disaster recovery backup software for linux — excellent stuff
it's in the works to be added to Fedora at some point — it's been going through the process for a while
peeps draggin their feet

ok…i will find some more specific information and ask, as soon as we get the machine rebooted…

but it's the best disaster recovery package I'm aware of

alright, I will look into that, although I'm normally not bothered about doing a format, as long as I have my stuff on dvd's

Hi! My sshfs dropped while I was browsing a dir with nautilus, and now it won't browse the dir at all - "Nautilus cannot display dir. Please select another viewer and try again." What can I do to clear its memory of failed directories?

indeed

we are attempting to dual boot our lab on campus and two machines are having this problem all identical hardware

i have been googling for quite a while now but could not find any FREE web based email service that gives you POP and IMAP!

with Mondo, you could blow away the machine to bare metal and completely change the drive hardware and still restore to a working system from the Mondo backup, (provided it fits on the new drives)

why do you need pop AND imap?

And how is that a Fedora problem?

it's not. but I can see that he's hoping some of us distro-related folks might have a suggestion where google's failed him
it's not *completely* far-fetched that some of us may have run into something similar to what he wants, anyway

i dont think its a fedora problem i think its desperation

Nonetheless, there are plenty of channels where that question wouldn't be off-topic. This is not one of them.

ok…tried turning off acpi…still hangs so acpi isn't the problem, when it gets up and going…we will go check log files to see if we can find any errors….

yum install totemxine totemxine-lib is this correct?

desperation indeed

gnudo try #desperate

one presumes you're referring to things like hotmail/gmail/yahoo/etc, and not horde/squirrelmail/etc installs on linux so you can RUN such a server

sorry I didn't mean that

…it is actually hanging longer with acpi off…

(yes I'm actually old enough to remember Captain Kangaroo)

You are right but none of them offer you FREE imap, pop, smtp

well — this defintely is the wrong forum to be asking — you might have better luck in one of the mail related channels on here — or at least they might be able to point you in the right direction

isnt that usually provided through your isp.?

what are you looking for?

he's looking for a free webmail (think yahoo, gmail, etc) service that offers imap + pop + smtp

hey WebDragon

#fedora's definitely the wrong place to ask
now if he were looking to RUN such a thing ON Fedora 7 then he'd be in the right place
heya frozty_sa

I'd suggest he search Google for that ’ freemail imap as keywords

hmm..when turning off acpi it wont get past starting system message bus

lol

there's a number of free-of-charge services in Germany that have that

apparently he'd been googling for a while before coming in here in desperation, and since we've talked about this too long already in here, ahmina shuddup now

sprechen zie deustch gnudo?

yes! but another condition i wanna be met is that such a service being hosted on gnu/linux servers and gnu/linux friendly, fedora could be the flavor!

'ahmina'?

I think I'm going to buy a dell laptop with ubuntu.

'ahmina' short for 'i'm going to' in Brooklynese
so I type with a NYC accent. sue me.

Das geht nicht an! Englisch bitte!

good Lord.. who understands that outside of NYC, let alone outside the US..

mien deustch es ist kaput

it works fine if you just sound it out

if you would have said it outloud it would have made sense

precisely, robbins876

kinda reminds me of Turkish..

hahaha

although, imunah makes more sense

they have something like 'am1na'

the beauty of written english is that you can torture it nearly as much as spoken english, with the added benefit of making puns more readily obvious

wel, as ek afrikaans praat, hoeveel mense hier verstaan my?

heheheh

valid points ;-)

ek sal dit wel verstaan, maar my Afrikaans is ook nie perfect nie

^putz^, i thought you were going to be quiet and learn

south african?

no, German
living near the Dutch border

close enough ;-)

but inflection tone and emotional expression is drastically reduced in the written word

afrikaans is german + dutch (mostly) after all
I'm impressed
vzduch++

in my impression Afrikaans is more like 18th-century Zeeuws dialect
w/ a number of simplifications

If I create a Fedora respin can I easily replace grub with an EFI boot loader such as elilo

well, we have a language influenced by many languages. I don't know the exact etymology of everything though

does fedora come shipped with a few aliases already set
?

why would you want to do that to yourself?

^putz^, training wheels aliases - yes

training wheels aliases lol

frozty_sa, ’cause waiting for teh cable guy sucks

e.g. the differentiation between grammatical persons has completely disappeared from Afrikaans apart from the personal pronouns
and the possessive, of course

^putz^: the alias command by itself will give you a list of the aliases currently set in your shell

i know i did it and it came up with a short list of them
i only set 2
there are 8

zcat, frozty_sa also it's usually MUCH cheaper to make your own cables than buy premade

good point
good point as well

for my recording studio setup, I bought a 1000' roll of decent wire, and soldered all my own lengths to fit

WebDragon, i've got rj45 crimpers, plugs, etc; just nothing for the thick coaxial type

the roll of cable + all the ends I needed (both tip + sleeve, and ring+tip+sleeve) cost me LESS than about 4 lengths of prefit store-bought cable
the only extra thing I had to get was a set of those radio-shack alligator clip armatures that hold the shit in place while you solder with your other two hands
hehe

WebDragon, "helping hands"
i have one too

yepyep
gotta have 'em

oops how do I remove an alias?
i want to remove an alias and make it a function intsead but first I need to remove the alias

zcat, wanna borrow mine?
good cable crimpers and quality fittings arent really cheap WebDragon
especially since 6a fittings are different

wb

^putz^: man bash or man tcsh (or whatever shell you're using — the alias command is a shell 'builtin' and not a command in its own right, so you'll find its documentation in the shell's manpage)

opsec, ktnx. (the roofers ripped my cable apart)

thankyou webdragon

of course — gold plated ring-tip-sleeve connectors are obviously more expensive, but it's not too far-fetched to purchase GOOD ones at a reasonable price
sounds like a Frank Zappa album

i wondered where you went..
i missed your beautiful triggers

WebDragon, the inexpensive ones are the ones by the box that the cable companies use… those are some really elcheapo ones
WebDragon, the inexpensive ones are the ones by the box that the cable companies use… those are some really elcheapo ones

there's cheap, there's good, and there's expensive

–version says i am using BASH which is the default shell anyway

the cheap ones are obviously so, the expensive ones, similarly. the Good ones are the ones in between and the differences are again obvious

opsec, aww… *sniff* i was still able to hop online using the wonderful "LINKSYS" wireless isp, but it was spotty at best (5 - 20min connect times), so i didn't want to spam irc with joins/parts.

ermm

I could show you the ring-tip-sleeve cable connectors I have and you'd instantly be able to see the difference between them, the cheapo's and the gold-plated ones

where can i find tutorial about how to configure apache in fc?

several places

yea, i asked bob yesterday if he'd seen you, is it all sorted out now?

WebDragon, Im sure

service httpd start && lynx http://localhost/manual/

opsec, yep. a 5min job.

when in a man page is there a way to do a word search?

^putz^, /word

I have a quality greenlee set used in my business WebDragon but you know those tools arent cheap. still the biggest problems are the quality of cable and connector

^putz^: depends on what pager you're using but it's usually '/' to start a search with

how do yuou go to the next item in the search

agreed, doesn't matter how good your tools are if your cable sucks or your connectors suck
^putz^: are you using 'more' or 'less' for your pager ?

man bash
not more nor less

nice to see you back

type q

^putz^, man less (it's a subset of vi keys)

lol

^putz^: q brings you back to the shell again

if i was zcat I'd get a set of extensions and some cheap screw on connectors and some waterproof tape

EvilBob, rogerroger over.

i knew you'd say that

^putz^: then type echo $PAGER

or call the cable co and bill the roofers

or env |grep -i pager
then, depending on whether you're set up to use more or less, read the manpage for it (man more) (man less)

echo $PAGER does nada

likely it's defaulting to 'more' then
(man more) for how to use the pager controls within the program while perusing manpages

Dia duit!
What is the RHEL4 package command?

man man is there but says nothing about doing searches

lol

/join #RHEL
^putz^: (man more)
not (man man)

ok i'll try man more

Do you not know?

regardless of what I do or do not know, the #rhel channel is where you should be asking

Your nick rings a maniacal vibration…
Where is this channel logged?

this channel is logged ?

is there a tool for collecting statistics about yum repository usage? i've got my own yum repo but an blind to its use

Yeah. You must've been not so nice at one point for me to remember your nick and have it bring a bad brainflavor :P

That sword will do you no good here. Alas the vorpal blade went snicker snack, and I have lost my head.
But a very merry unbirthday to you

rofl

Jabberwock, i'm using awstats, but this is definitely not showing up. hmm

Is it in http repo?
an

someone in #yum may know of a statsgathering setup for repos, but you may have to wait a while for an answer
or possibly someone in #rpm may have a reference for you

jabberwock, it is an http repo. webdragon, thanks for the tip

although that's stretching the point a little

hey guys… i was wondering… is it possible to install tff fonts in fc6? i have looked on the net for the answer but the only good guide was in an ubuntu forum

ttf fonts ? yeah it's easy

ok
that's what i meant ttf

both gnome and kde have some fairly simple ways to install fonts on a per-user basis

i'm using gnome

system-wide it's a little less straightforward

You using apache?

jabberwock, yep

i only need it for my own use

No idea why awstats wouldn't work

gnome-font-*

Maybe use cronolog for logging
awstats is cronolog friendly too

how do i start my own channel?

thanks web dragon… ill check it out

cheers Lankke

actually it's trivial either way

something's changed since the last time I tried it, then

just copy them somewhere under /usr/share/fonts/ and you're good to go.

shlahn ugut..

i want to call it #fedoraputz

^putz^: you might want to read the http://www.freenode.net charter

it'll be a channel for putz's like myself

surpise - fired azureus up and it wants to update to 3.0.2.0. I would have said no, if it weren't for the notice saying the UI wouldn't be changed to the craptacular new one.

^putz^: you might want to have a look through http://rute.2038bug.com/ which is the best new-user-tutorial around even if the kernel stuff in it is a bit dated nowadays

i have the book LINUX rute users tutorial and exposition

best I know of for starting people off with all the nifty commandline stuff

How do I modprobe something on bootup?

/etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/rc.d/rc.local ?
although it's handled differently depending on where you put it

WebDragon, do in put in 'modprobe blah'?

WebDragon, do i just copy these ttf files into the font folder?

Anyone familiar with VMware? I have a 7gb file on my linux box that i'm trying to move to an XP virtual machine on the same box but when i try to copy it over it says that there's not enough space on the disk, but when i check available space it says 22gb
is there a file size limit or something in VMware?

in /etc/modprobe.conf I have 'alias eth0 8139too' to do what insmod or modprobe would do elsewhere, plus attach it to the correct "port"
