Im upgrading my kernel from 2621-r4 to 2622-r2 and I no longer see vesafb as an option for my framebuffer driver
nyk2005, many many. It`s webserver`s filesystem
i guess if a gui is needed
rsync is surprisingly fast even then!
i hope so
ok, revdep-rebuilding for last time… i hope it works this time, please work
good luck
thanks…
you too
oh man, it faild AGAIN
does anyone know why gnat-gcc-4.2 has been installed in /usr/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/gnat-gcc-bin/4.2/ but not in /usr/bin ?
i'm completely stuck with the expat thing
you did the stuff mzbot says to do?
re
sure, and that oneliner still fails
faq expat
expat-2.0.1 has been marked stable but, unfortunately, it is not ABI compatible with earlier versions. To sucessfully upgrade and fix any reverse dependencies, we recommend running: emerge -n portage-utils && emerge -qep –nospinner world | grep –color=never -oFf (scanelf -plRBF '%F %n' | awk '/libexpat.so.0/{print $1}' | xargs qfile -qC | sort -u) | xargs emerge -1
Hwllo. How do I change the kdm background?
yep, that one
which part does it fail on?
wow, it's gotten more complex since the last time i looked at it.
bhuya , new switch mounted , threw out that old 16 port hub . what do you guys think about this switch : D-LINK DES-1024D
playing chess w/o gui is for bonkers
ugg..
the onliner breaks at libgnomekdb
gcc takes forever to install!
naaah
1 hour or so
at max
use 3.4.6 takes only 20 minutes on my laptop
let me re-run the onliner to exactly get the error message
1sec
but mozilla-firefox just hang … damn it … its the second page that goes into loop
hi, i have a lot of not paritioned space, but i still have one partition from XP on that disc, how can i change sdb1 to sdb4, how could i change those id ?
ok, what's libgnomekbd blow up on?
anyone have any idea why emerge -e system wants to merge 3 different slots of gcc?
executing the onliner… give me a second
damn i changed that old hub and the network become ULTRAFAST i knew it will be but still amazed lovely little dlink switch
as in, can you paste the errors somewhere
difficult since i've got no X and no mouse support on console :/
teach jors wgetpaste
No such faq
hmm
(so i'll write the most important part of them)
teach jors paste
Use http://rafb.net/paste or emerge wgetpaste. Pasting in #gentoo itself clutters the chat and will get you kicked by Naamah. Use the aforementioned site and hand us the URL so we can check it out.

won't paste anything… don't have copy&paste support under console xD
Hi, is there a file where I can add/remove the 'world flag' for ebuilds, if so, where?
read what the bot said more closely.
um. we don't want what you think is important, we want it ALL. (:
what 3 slots? gcc-3x and gcc-4x and?
there was actually a faq on wgetpaste, but it seems to have disappeared.
faq nopaste
nopaste is a tool written in ruby, which allows you to specify a file or pipe stuff at, and it gives you a URL at rafb.net with the text that it got. Examples: 1) nopaste /var/log/portage/somelog.log 2) dmesg | grep -i network | nopaste or) Alternatively you can use wgetpaste, which does not depend on ruby.
when you emerge things, they get added to the world file.
teach trixon world
The world file is stored at /var/lib/portage/world and contains a list of packages that have been previously emerged as a result of being _explicitly_ given to emerge as parameters (i.e. unnamed dependencies that get emerged don't make it in). As an emerge target, "world" effectively refers to all of the package names defined in this file (and also implies "system").
Hi all
any 'hard-core' ssh port forwarders here ? i'm trying to make tunnel : ssh -R *:9545:localhost:22 user@homebox.net; then thing connects fine, but, it establishes the listening connection only on 127.0.0.1, so no external connections ; i want to have 0.0.0.0
i have a bunch of movies and stuff on a ntfs partition what compression should i use with tar ?
bz2 gz or use pure tar only ?
ok, gime me some minutes… i'm reemerging some packages (dbus, fontconfig, mesa) befor ethe oneliner
Maybe someone can give me some advice on a major mistake I just made - typing "sudo rm -rdf *" in my home dir……
Is there any way to recover files under Linux?
restore things from your backup.
you may need to set GatewayPorts yes in sshd_config
Yes - but this is about 3 weeks old, unfortunately.
hi, anyone maybe know how can i create primary partion with fdisk with id 1 if there i already have partions from NTFS, with id sdb1, is ist possible to move sdb1 to sdb4
ehh
kerframil, on the homebox, right ? I seems , did that, and restarted the server, but still no luck
will try again i guess
Is there some kind of undelete possibility? I downloaded "recover", but it did not work (did not find any inodes…)
talking about ext3 filesystems, the files should be still there if you don't do many writes on disk… so you can try to dd that partition to a readonly device first
if sdb4 is at least the same size then dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=/dev/sdb4
ty
that will copy the filesystem. it won't change the partition table.
ok - gotta need a little help on this
it's reiserfs, I am afraid
do i need to create a new zone file in bind if i want *.cnuserv.lan to be sent to 10.0.0.8 ?
woops, in that case don't know how reiserfs operates
and the partition is on a vgroup
the partition that i left, so now i have problem with creating partitions for gentoo
running the oneliner, just a sec
because id one is used sdb1 is used
reiser doesn't use inodes. you are probably totally out of luck unless you brush up on data forensics really quickly, or find someone who is an expert in data forensics and reiserfs. in any case, the more you use the filesystem, the less your chances are of getting the data back. you should probably take the filesystem offline and take a snapshot with dd, i.e. put it into a file on some independent storage space.
each fs type has it's owm methods… even lvm and others virtual volumes, so you should better grab and take a look at its doc
damn i love gentoo so much
just found this http://antrix.net/journal/techtalk/reiserfs_data_recovery_howto.comments
so i don't know how to create nice primary partition for gentoo
EvilDin, that's not crucial
gentoo has nice docs for you on how to do that
why does it matter?
can't take a look at it now… dealing through console with a broken gentoo
don't know does it matter
no
or can be sdb2 boot ?
I'm upgrading my kernel from 2.6.21-r4 to 2.6.22-r2, and I no longer see vesafb as an option for my framebuffer driver. previously this was the only driver that worked correctly for me, the nvidia drivers didn't give me the correct resolution… how do i set up video with this new kernel?
yes
545
aha ok
kerframil, does it work for you ?
i will try
there seems to be a possibility….
reiser3 or reiser4?
reiser3
(the "stable" one in portage)
rebuild-tree is a potentially destructive operation. dump the device with dd before trying that if you have storage space available.
well - there is no data left
ok, don't know what changed but for the moment -this time- the onliner is working… i'll let you know if it breaks at some point, thanks
hmm… anyone got an idea why video=vesafb:1600×1200-16@80,mtrr:3,ywrap isnt giving me 80 hz as it should?
you don't have an external hard drive or anything like that?
i am currenly using gentoo's livecd with framebuffers @ 1024×768
yes, I do have
it rox
fb = supercool
ill have to get into it and start making fb consolez
I am just backuping the rest of the partition now
yes, it does.
kerframil, do you use any extra flags ? i'm just wondering why it does not work for me
no. I use a stock sshd_config file where GatewayPorts has been changed.
try putting the name/ip of the interface through which the traffic is being router, rather than localhost perhaps.
routed*
should be working though./
kerframil, ok
q/win 36
kerframil, no luck., gonna try the other way around
damn moving 120gb over ethernet is slooow
Gigabit Ethernet?
Hmm, I don't think pidgin is emerging properly. I don't have a 'pidgin' command and the icon in the K Menu doesn't do anything (Since it just uses the 'pidgin' command)
But the emerge doesn't put up any errors.
which USE flags did you emerge it with?
Any one in specific I needed?
gtk
gtk+ even
Oh, that's weird, I thought that was in my make.conf.
I guess it isn't though.
Still NOT working, svn…
hehe, i was right the first time, just USE="gtk"
damn it i got an ntfs error while tarring up stuff
it says i might wanna try nls=utf8 mount option
so this mean one file wasnt copyed ?
when I try and emerge perl modules my old (now broken) CFLAGS get used, how do I get it to use the current CFLAGS?
skipping unrepresentable inode at 0×8001
set them in /etc/make.conf ?
have done; most things emerge with the new cflags but perl modules don't
but "ln -s /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 /usr/lib/libexpat.so.0" fixed it.. at least from complaining at startup…
as I read it, the filename can't be represented in the character set you've set; yes it means one wasn't copied
then it seems there is a bug in the perl modules, or their build system
