so i have generated this certificate and while connecting to the server my client throws an exception javaxnetsslSSLPeerUnverifiedException
hey everybody
i need help with appfuse, please
~tell sanjar about google appfuse documentation
sanjar, http://www.google.com/q=appfuse documentation
bleh
you get the idea
oh, you here?
i for one don't use it
just got back why what's up
g[r]eek: so guys.. i need help with my web service
i have set up a web-server on tomcat
and it uses ssl connection, i.e. https
~tell progreSSive about enter
but the certificate fot the ssl certificates hosting connection i handmade )
progreSSive, enter is not punctuation. Please don't press return until you've finished typing your question, it's annoying to see multiple lines for one question, and hard to follow.
ok, sorry
np
so i have generated this certificate.. and while connecting to the server, my client throws an exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException, saying that the certificate is not recodnized. how can i make the client accept that certificate i've generated?
joed has given me a link ()
he has given me a link (http://www.tc.umn.edu/~brams006/selfsign.html) to create one's own CA, and assign certificates.. i've done all that, but cannot pass the certificate to tomcat
i'd really appreciate if any of you could help me out!
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-4.0-doc/ssl-howto.html
andresgr, yeah, i've read that, but still cant get my client side accept it
have you restarted tomcat?
ok, let me try once more ) maybe i've missed smth
yeah, i've restarted tomcat, but still
what's the class fitness profiler that ernimril wrote again?
it's got a tji or something in it
if i connect to the specified address (web service) by a browser, everything's fine, but the client cannot (a java thread)
progreSSive, you may also be interested in the java.net.debug property
~ssl
I guess the factoid 'openssl-keytool' might be appropriate:
g[r]eek, openssl-keytool is http://mark.foster.cc/kb/openssl-keytool.html
ok, thanks man, let me first try to read some
thanks!
ssl is Sockets Layer is a cryptographic communications protocol that provides secure transfer of data on the Internet. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Sockets_Layer for further details. Also take a look at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~brams006/selfsign.html for a tutorial on creating a self-signed SSL certificate.
Okay, g[r]eek.

~tjip
g[r]eek, I have no idea what tjip is.
~tjp
g[r]eek, I have no idea what tjp is.
you around? i'm trying to find that jar fitness profiler of yours.
tijmp!
hoorah
well, let's just say tijmp led to jsizer
bbl
excuse me, good morning! what is wrong with the constructor ExecVerb() - http://rafb.net/p/QbEllf76.html
oh, no need to type the constructor cool
constructors don't have a return type
yes, wlfshmn figured it out. thanks
ah, indeed you did, my bad
does anyone host thier site on awardspace?
~pastebin
http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin
anyone?
no. goodbye.
Do they even support java?
thats what i was wondering
jdbc
thier forum is too slow
jdbc isn't the issue, it looks like a generic webhoster, and they likely don't have the container you need
Java hosting is rarely cheap and to my knowledge, never free.
i don't know if this will help http://cp4.awardspace.com/phpinfo.html
no, php info will not tell you if they support java. I doubt they do, and you are unlikely to get a better answer anywhere except from them.
ok, thanks
If they are interested in your buisness, they will respond to such a question by email. If they dont, I wouldn't consider them for hsoting anyway
cannot switch on a value of type string? wtf?!
Eclipse told me that in my program. that's ridiculous
it's right
switch has to have an integral type
that sucks
and it makes no sense
as least IMHO
why doesn't it make sense?
sorry fo the language
lol
I will show you.. hold on
I mean, think about what a switch is internally and it makes perfect sense
imho, the guys that wrote the String class know a little more than you
groovy let's you do switch on strings, i think
I'm writing an interpreter… if I get a "+" then I add my two args… if I get a "-" then I subtract them
and it is handy
good example
switch on string is possible, but requires a big if/then section
Hi folks. This is a kinda design question. Does anyone with design experience do two different designs? One for the system and one for the software implementation ?
g[r]eek, you shouldn't assume that
hehe
jottinger, that's why switching on strings makes sense
you can have Operator enum, and switch on that
g[r]eek: javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: could not verify peer certificate: blah blah blah
can somebody help me out, please
just check "Groovy Switch" in http://www.ociweb.com/jnb/jnbFeb2004.html
how to make my java web hosting client understand my server self-assigned certificate??
you say you followed that tutorial step by step?
switch(int) is a simple jump table
sure
use groovy
deal
use a tokenizer
well, we know it depends on the context
but metaperl, i advice you to forget jottinger's advice and follow mine
I need some help. The local variable retval may not have been initialized - http://rafb.net/p/TkNRqc45.html
eat feta (i felt left out)
(i think it is the second time i say this, hehe)
use groovy for what?
~stab metaperl
paste the error
how about that JavaFX thing?
~tell progreSSive about pastebin
progreSSive, http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin
wait I need help on my java program - http://rafb.net/p/TkNRqc45.html
spork? is that like a spoon/fork?
why does retval need to be initialized?
have you never seen a spork g[r]eek?
because there's no guarantee that it gets initialized before you use it
i've seen what looks like a fork (it ends in pointy bits) but has a larger than usual base (for scooping)
g[r]eek: there are pictures in teh wikipedia article
what should I initialize it to?
heh. i guess there's a first time for everything. sporks aren't part of our day to day slang in south africa
whatever you want. but why the hell are you storing a double in an Object?
remember, those Doubles WILL be unboxed before the addition is performed
it's the single greatest invention in cutlery history
I'm writing an interpreter…
later I might have a function return a string
that is far too subjective. my vote goes to the knife
well no not really.
use a tokenizer
seriously
what do you mean doubles will be unboxed? what does that matter…
have you seen them "sporks" that have a knife on the other end?
look up javacc or something
I'm using SableCC
it's superior to javacc and Antlr
then WTF are you asking about switch on "+"
it like unclips
camping equipment. very neat.
nice, guys try "http://www.oracle.com/"
neat g[r]eek
I'm going step by step
do more steps
sheesh, that's retarded
g[r]eek: how can i paste the error?? should i post it by the link you've give?
*given
yes, put it in the pastebin
yeah. you can paste code
you can specify language too
when you submit the form, you will be automatically show a new page with your code pasted on it. copy-paste this url in here
g[r]eek: well… there's no language though….
g[r]eek: ok, just a sec
oh maybe this one has java by default
i'm a little concerned mate. the fact that you're implementing ssl certificates but can't figure out how to use a pastebin
g[r]eek: xaxa, not funny
g[r]eek: here.. http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?dl=3605
wtf im getting a text file download
damn
just a sec then )
this is the first time i'm using the pastebin
is it? http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=3605
try http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=3605
try a href="http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=3605"http://eugeneciurana.com/pastebin/pastebin.php?show=3605/a
thanks
so, i'm running the client from a console.. but it's not connecting to the server, saying that it cannot recognize the goddamn certificate
well according to the docs: When the peer was not able to identify itself (for example; no certificate, the particular cipher suite being used does not support authentication, or no peer authentication was established during SSL handshaking) this exception is thrown."
i'm betting you haven't configured your ceriticate correctly
this really isn't one of my strenghts but i'll try help
g[r]eek: do you think?
g[r]eek: great man! appreciate!
Hmmm, Java is pretty hard to learn =/
i wasn't pointing out the obvious. it could be either of the last two causes as well
~tell [-Haza-] about java barbie
[-Haza-], I guess the factoid 'i have looked at the java.io.console class .. but in there it' might be appropriate:
[-Haza-], i have looked at the java.io.console class .. but in there it is there?
damnit
nevermind
that's an amazingly stupid factoid…
Heh. Just trying to get my head around all this OO =/
*OOP
Double retval = 0; // cannot convert from int to Double… wowzers
hahaha
ok well what environment firstly.
learn java servlet hosting before writing languages
autoboxing….
seriously
this is my way to learn. Peter Norving learned Java by writing a Scheme intepreter — norvig.com/jscheme.html
…
he's apparently smarter than you are
perhaps, but first he learned scheme
… with all due respect
what about them? i mean, environment? )
what os, compiler, etc.
yeah - you could all the necessary software installed? apache, open ssl etc
and what fanook said
I learned java working on some of the first j2ee deployments, it certainly can be done but…
yeah, everything went okay
with no errors
g[r]eek: os=ubuntu linux
so writing bytecode reflection code is actually faster than using reflection classes?
g[r]eek: the server is running on apache tomcat
which version of ubuntu?
g[r]eek: fiesty fawn.. or whatever
feisty. ok, that's 7.04 if i'm not mistaken
jottinger, what was that?
have you read this? http://www.tc.umn.edu/~brams006/selfsign_ubuntu.html
yeah
oh
nope
CSX, back on netscape
does that make sense?
g[r]eek: but it is for apache,…. i need apache tomcat 6 hosting one
jottinger, i can't even find it on the web…it must be reaaaaaaally old
yes
yeah but it's still ubuntu specific. one of the first paragraphs in the original tutorial (http://www.tc.umn.edu/~brams006/selfsign.html) says that if you're using ubuntu, use this link (http://www.tc.umn.edu/~brams006/selfsign_ubuntu.html) instead…
man, oracle.com is reaaaaally pain in the arse today…
this was back when netscape iplanet was in vogue
anyhow, check that you didn't perhaps have to take slightly different configuration steps when using the ubuntu tutorial.
we converted the app from java cgi to servlets
hi
jottinger, what java ee spec?
g[r]eek: arright.. let me check it out…
this was before java ee was actually a spec
pre-san francisco!
pre-ARPA
ha! no, ARPA was around
:P
wait… there was life before java ee? hehe
wonder if there some kind of meuseum with old software (fully setup and running for demo purposes)
does anyone do OOAD stuff ?
Is there a channel for hypersonic sql db? I doubt it?
g[r]eek: and my guess is…
g[r]eek: maybe i'm getting this error because i'm using a different port, not the default one
g[r]eek: because the documentations say that in the CN(certificate name) field you should specify your url
could be. the SSL handshake would have failed then. which would have thrown the same error (not posotive)
*positive
if I want to learn about java bytecodes.. what docs am I advised to read?
g[r]eek: and as i'm using another port, the handshake is not successful
g[r]eek: let my try to do everything on a default port… 8080
*the default port
443 is standard for https. but you can test it on default. i expect you to get the same error to be honest
no answers
if you don't, and it works, then you probably haven't configured your virtual hosts in ubuntu correctly
in fact that could be the cause even if it doesn't work on the default port.
is this any good to start with? http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jvms/second_edition/html/VMSpecTOC.doc.html
for writing bytecodes
