I just installed fedora core 5 and i'm trying to setup mysql, but when i do mysql -u root, it says ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
make sure something else isng using the port?

i went to the services list
and i enable mysqld
that's all ive done so far, but i havent rebooted
so i will do service mysql start

i installed bastille yesterday which asked me if i wanted to set one and i hadent thought about it till then, however i guess it didnt make one

I did /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password

and it seemed to work

although there is a very slim chance I have an IP that I'm running a site on already
incase you havent noticed, i'm on cgiirc.. my company blocks everything and only lets HTTP traffic via their proxy
