Inspecting Hardware Configuration black screen and freezes

anybody here ever had a problem with the XP Pro install CD where after it says "Inspecting Hardware Configuration" it just goes to a black screen and freezes?
is your system new enough to run xp?
sometimes there can be hardware conflicts durring install that do that
yes, i've run xp before and upgraded since
upgraded the hw that is
on that same computer
hmm
could be a hardware conflict are you trying to do a fresh install?

yes
hmm
sata drives?  raid drives? new network card?
my motherboard does SATA RAID but i don't use it
i dont know if its on in the BIOS or not
o ok
well if your not using it
did you format the drives?
no, just going to remove the current window partition on the setup
yo whats the best method to restore a cpu
just let windows do the trick or quick restore
?
mean reainstall windows all over
cHiKNPad: brb, going to check bios settings
k
you mean restore windows?
depends what is wrong but if you have something really wrong then do a  regular install and when it asks  do a repair current install
fastest way to install windows is with an unattended file script  so you can walk away from the computer
or with an image of a good install if you are building a number of computers with the same hardware setup
cHiKNPad: woops, this mobo doesn't even have SATA RAID, that was one of the pieces i upgraded
i know its not the CD because i can run it just fine inside a VMWare session
hmm
so you can still boot the system?
install hangs like that are a bite
yeah, im in Windows 2000 at the moment
did you try it a few times?
oh yes
k
with different CD's as well
o
the plain XP cd, two different Slipstream sp1 cds
most people here would say its your ram or network card
network card is built in
oh good
welp if you have things connected you might start unconnecting them
but
maybe you might need a bios update
why dont you make a sp2 slipstream?
pretty sure the bios is fully up to date
i dont care for all the extra crap sp2 comes with
o
welp maybe you can try google
