Biometric usb device: PERL & pgp key
I just piped the output from the biometric usb device and developed a program in perl so that it would let me use the data as a key for pgp…
not sure that's a good way to use it
what happens if you get a little cut on your finger
probubly not but it's neat… seems to work well..
so you didn't even need a special driver?
did you have to mount it?
I guess I could make a small database that stores all 10 fingers and links them to one person…
maybe 20 for the ultra paranoid..
but I'll have to make it encryped so that should the machine gets compromised my userbase's biometric information wouldn't be leaked

nice of him to answer my questions!
good morning everyoneheya dh.
hows it going Thuryn
fucking hot. MO humidity plus 15+ laps
hah!
i overheard someone laughing about how MO ppl talk about the weather here.
i got 3 computers and 1 laptop all on full load
it's a cliche now: "It's not the heat. It's the humidity!"
What package will give me plain LPD functionality on FC5 ? (and NO, i dont want CUPS involved )
eliran, one sec
humidity gets bad here in summer sometimes
like all through January
i'm in Michigan, the great lakes
Q: Is it considered "rude" to post both here and @ #fedora ?
Thuryn : Tnx, waiting.
eliran, it's CUPS. sorry, dude.
eliran, only if you keep up with the same answer in each channel
Thuryn : hehe.
thats just wasting peoples time
eliran, it is if you post them at the same time.
Thuryn: Oh, ok.
if you post in one chan, and then shortly after post in another chan, some people will get annoyed anyway. screw them. just point out, "yeah, but i didn't get an *answer*. (duh)"
hi all
tell them to get knotted
i mean, politeness is one thing, but if you're really just looking for an answer, asking in more than one forum makes sense. just don't spam a bunch of them at once.
it pisses me off
Thuryn: Ok, here's the deal. i'm using a how-to to install efax on my fc5. there it sais to change printcap to add a queue that will actually be the fax. but if CUPS is on (and should be for LPD stuff) it goes and everwrites my /etc/printcap, so i;m back at square 1… ideas ? i need ANY fax package i can print to from OO / Koffice, and a "recieve" option to answer calls manully or after x rings. (sorry for spelling mistakes, i'm tired o
f using Babylon ![]()
someone asks in here, then don't respond to answers, and "oh yeah, I was asking in another channel"
Forgot the How-To… its at http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/Fax-Server.html#ss2.1
linfo ex question to eliran
dwell, yeah, exactly. ask in one place at a time, and have the courtesy to wait for an answer, and at least /part when you ask somewhere else.
dwell : Well, #fedora seems kind'a slow now.
dwell : What did i do wrong this time ?
eliran, yeah, well if you didn't get a response in a reasonable time that's fair enough
it was detailed, wasn't it ?
eliran, that's right. cups is going to take over your printcap file, so you don't want to change it directly.
I konw this isn't quite the right place for this…but does anyone know much about getting input over the parallel port? I'm trying to test a program (for getting data from an IR sensor); I can write data out fine, but I can't seem to read it back in — I think it's because I'm not quite sure what I need on a pin to set it high…
dwell : Please see my "long" post. thats all the details i have, unless you need to know something on my machine.
so if you want stuff added to /etc/printcap, you need to use CUPS to do it. granted, my knowledge of CUPS is limited, but most packages provide a way to do such things
i know enough CUPS to hate it.
really? i found it a little cumbersome, but usable.
i didn't spend enough time on it to know whether it was CUPS or me that sucked, though. ![]()
Thuryn : I know what to add to /etc/printcap, but i do NOT know what to add to cups.conf to get the same "functionality"
Installing scanner support took me like 45 minutes, all in all. setting up a fax print queue is a pain. And comparing to Win2K/XP, well, something in here is wrong.
gremlins like linux more than windows. we have to perform more difficult rituals to keep them away
there's a cupsomatic thing to create a ppd file, from there on CUPS is pretty straightforward
