Is anyone here using a SiS 670 bridge with direct rendering Im trying to get direct rendering with a new ATI graphics

MakeMaker
Can't locate ExtUtils/

Hello, I just installed gentoo, my grub says that there is no such aprtition (hd1,1), which can be true. Although, what is the aprtition. I have a /dev/hda and a /dev/sda. Grub is on /dev/sda1 and gentoo on /dev/sda2 and some swap is on /dev/sda3

Where is this packet ExtUtils ?

*partition

because I can not compile xorg-x11

(hd0,0) maybe?

As a matter of fact I also tried (hd0,0) and (hd0,1), which both gave the same err.

grub starts counting at 0, so it might be (hd1,0)

How did you deduce that?

he knows it? :p

magic :-)

read the docs

My grub is on /dev/sda1 and my gentoo on /dev/sda2.

na bonsaikitten debugs code in realtime and sees through the code
Herbot, you do have command completion in grub console
just look what it offers
(tab tab tab)

I mean it quite serious, I do not know how I can logical think of the hd's in grub

play with it

Just in grub, some option to go to a console, and the ato completionw ith tab like in other consoles.

you are aproaching it wrong if you expect grub to be logical :p

Ah, then I know it is not implieing I am illogical, although is is also not implieing I am.

Herbot, did you write grub to mbr already? grub menu on boot? didnt follow this problem

I will leave now to mplay.
I did grub-install, like the manual said.
And it boots, although the graphics are not so good.
I have grub at boot, and I did grub-install /dev/sda1.

i never used grub-install, always use grub –no-floppy :p
but if you have grub at boot
just look at the discs its offers you
root (hdtabtab)

I have, the graphics sock though, not that is is ncurses ore something, but there is some serieus issue in my modules I think.

grub-install –no-floppy looks for the floppy drive anyway
it's retarted

Ok, I will go out and play then. bye

Pinchiukas, sure?
becaues it doesnt make my floppy go all noisy

anybody wanna look into my problem? http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=4138844#4138844

and its way faster :p

well it says so
I don't even have one

oh ffmpeg, always a …..
except trying different versions (unstable) i wouldnt know
there are few packages which are so compile hosting sensitive as ffmpeg i think

tried untested, no luck

you could try it without any USE flags to see if its related to that
0.4.9_p20070330 i have that but on i686

it barely has any flags I can disable

What's the easiest way to install Prism54 firmware, when not able top go online ?!.
… I can get it to work from the Live-CD, but I'm having a bitch of a time doing the firmware install on my 'native' system…

print the code to paper and retype
is the firmware in /lib/firmware?

Ok… Tried to chroot, and emerge, but no luck …

no on the livecd?

It appears to be in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware… Or so…

can someone tell me how i can configure the path where gcc (avr-gcc) looks for header files? when i try to include "avr/io.h" it s not found but i have it

but if you have internet from the livecd, why don't you just emerge everything needed from the chroot (uses the same connection normally)

Here I am again, can I use the minimal cd of gentoo to burn a dvd from an iso using cdrecord command?

Well, I run into another probelem with 'masked packages' doing that…

don't think it has cdrecord

Any other way?

-I

what is the exact message (use pastebin if it's more then 2 lines)

Triffid_Hunter, thanks a lot

SeJo Just a minute… I'm booting tha machine right now :o )…

is posix-bc the same as POSIX in convmv ?

Ok.. .Here's what I do… I boot from Live-CD… Mount my system drive, and chroots it…

bonsaikitten, is posix-bc the same as POSIX in convmv ? and wich utf8 sould i choose hte strict one or the normal one?

I hinestly don't know how to answer that question

mabe hannesd knows?

Then I 'emerge prism54'…

Argh… there is an error with the name-resolution…

did you copy the /etc/resolv.conf file?

Nope… 2 secs

random question … how do I change the scheduler the kernel uses … I've built the various schedulers in the kernel, can they be changed "on the fly"?

anybody wanna look into my problem? http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=4138844#4138844

IO schedulers?

hi all

Like magic … Think I got it now ?!…

I'm having problems with dhcpcd… it replaces my resolv.conf on boot, and I don't want that. I need my nameservers to stay in resolv.conf. Any idea how I'll fix this ?

Another question… The net-setup app. How would one 'emerge' that ??

scheduler=foo as kernel option should work

yeah; elevator, cfq, deadline — how the kernel schedules running processes

and you can change that during runtime afaik

you don't

but I can't remember how

no, that's IO schedulers
they control how data is read and written to disks
yes, me neither

you configure it in /etc/conf.d/net

Ok… I'll risk a reboot to my native system now then

you know what I'm talking about, I've just got two things confused I think

new filename "Ã/ÃÃ%/¨?ÃÃ" contains characters, which are not
POSIX filesystem conform! This may result in data loss….what should i do?

I'll look into sysctl that seems like the best bet on where to change things for the running kernel

hannesd, bonsaikitten, and i have a lot of that on the screen

from where are those files?

echo a value to the /sys/block/hda/queue/scheduler file

bonsaikitten, it seems that it does that for evry file

cheers!

cat /sys/block/hda/queue/scheduler will show the current scheduler
of course

from where are those files?

bonsaikitten, from /

hmmm, interesting, hda isn't there, hdb (cdrom) is, hdc & hdd aren't there either

bonsaikitten, and sorry for making you repeating the question

I mean … how were they originally created?

bonsaikitten, ah ok they were created with the POXIX locale

weird

bonsaikitten, mabe theses warning doesn't have any incidence…

happens if you have a SATA drives…

was looking at /sys in the wrong ssh session ..

lol … be glad you didn't try "reboot" :-)

I would have noticed that, my mythtv box would have gone down an my music would have stopped!
thanks for the help guys. I was getting IO schedulers and preempt models mixed up — all clear now

did anyone figured out why synaptics freezes up (lost sync) when using ondemand governor?

Hey. I'm having trouble getting my agpgart device installed in order to use direct rendering with an ATI card I recently installed. I've tried both sis_agp and amd64_agp, but neither give me a /dev/agp device node, and I don't have direct rendering wit either.

is it safe to rm -fr /usr/portage/distfiles ?

Link–: yep, might wanna recreate distfiles afterwards though

As in ?

Link–: you can nuke /var/tmp/portage too

teach Link– about distfaq

Link–: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/faq.xml#distfiles

nuke ? as in rm ?

Link–: yes, but try, rm -fr /usr/portage/distfiles/*

or rm -rf /usr/portage/distfiles && mkdir /usr/portage/distfiles

Ok, thanks.
Thanks
