Hey guys Ive just created a chroot jail Ive copied bash and all its libraries to the right locations but when

can anyone help me with java on AMD64 ? nspluinwrapper sais opt/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.02/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so is not a valid NPAPI plugin :/

hu? ubuntu charges you for chat support?

its all community help we do

Ubuntu and RedHat sell hotline phone support
maybe I am mistaken, maybe RdHat+Mandriva

well well .. doublehp tbH I could create a company tomorrow and begin to charge for gentoo support … I think that is really another thing

yeah but nobody would use your service then

you dont get what I mean

many people would …

the 1.6 java servlet hosting plugins don't work on amd64

so i need 1.5 ?

blackdown 1.4 is the highest working

well i want to use it with nspluginwrapper
and not directly in firefox

remember what are Microsoft products: as long as you ask money to people, they expect to get a better service: for the single fact you make them pay, they will come to you , and skip free solutions …

point..

every distribution could have a charged service if one person decides to create that … it is obvious that the charged support must be a lot of better than the community help else noone would use the service like u said

yeah and especially with #gentoo I find it hard to believe to get any better support than that

I am sure that #gentoo does a really good job
the more people we are the better

advices which I've got are: remove flags. Manual says when you change flags recompile all packages. From logic point if I change USE flag for some packet (lets assume libmpg123) then I will don't have some feature in libmpg123, and this future may be referenced by some other program, which will get to the inconsistensy of a package or a whole system. Now explain to me please why does portage system can't handle it's own packages?
flags which are used by default. This software offers itself like a revolution in package administration and optimization for some defined box. So why do I have to jump with crowbar and fix things which are not done by it's developers? All
of the other distributions which have package systems don't have such problems.
Even standard kernel configuration taken from gentoo's repo doesn't builds normally. It's a super idiotism.
on this optimistical note I went doing rm -rf /
bye everyone
maybe once gentoo will become usable system
how to get out from bitchx?

Okay, bye Mr. Troll

wrong: free comunity can not afford for ads, since they dont have global budget: even if the person you say about have low knowledge, as long as he has bidget+personnal organisation, he can make TV&journal ads … and thus will attract customers. Customers can not evaluate tech knowledge. They evaluate "visibility"

rm -rf /

DJGummikuh in progress

that will quit bitchx in time for you
what a loss -.-

doh …. last time I proposed "badblocks -svw 4096 /dev/hda", the guy did it on prod server he went offline 2h later complaining messages, and did not come again for 1 week, and did not speak to me for 1y

Hello guys. Does anyone know how to do Alt-F11 (fullscreen) as a commandline arguement?

well normally you shouldn't give destructive tips in here because someone might try them but I guess in this case his stupidness excused my actions
wtf? depends on the program

chvt

ah lol

hmm I think I understand what you mean … well of course the charging does not necessarily mean that a good hosting company with affordable prices is good I agree when you say that 90 % is marketing

LOL I use linux for 4 years now and never came across this shortcut
that rocks

Hi. Can someone tell me how big the slowdown will be if I recomplile my entire system with -O0 instead of with -O2

??

I did not expect any Gentoo user to understand psychology or marketing ^^

why would you want to do that ?
^^ doublehp

Santanabaer, because I will also add -g -ggdb. I want to be able to debug any program on my system at any point.

hmm

Santanabaer, that's the power of having the source… :-)

you're gone from windows you won't NEED that functionality in linux host .)))

haha
good one

DJG I'm trying to start a terminal based app in fullscreen mode.

DJGummikuh, ? sorry, I didn't follow that.

I was to answer vargran, but he left apache geronimo server hosting ^^

nvm

he meant you wont need debugging since you are on gentoo and not on windows

hehe better for al of us
appearantly he even wasn't capable of quitting bitchx
some pr0 that were

A all out debug system isn't significantly slower it just uses more memory

bah, I even tied /msg ^^
facts are: Debian also have this circ dep problem, and, Gentoo do not pretend to be perfect

I have 4GB RAM and 320GB HDD. Memory is not an issue. I am concerned about how severe the performance penalty will be.

your's bigger than mine !

So what you want is fullscreen (a|E|x)term..?

your's bigger than mine !

It's not about speed, it's a myth

tmr yep, sounds probable

circ deps don't excuse for flaming

gnome-terminal –full-screen

maybe you did not tweak correctly the RAM timing settings, bus freq scaler, cloc divider …

ahh crap no man entry for eterm

I believe you wrote to the wrong person

you may also have too small cach in CPU, wrong kernel options, too fast scheduler,

gnome-terminal –full-screen

With a|xterm you can use -geometry.

I plan to have this in my CFLAGS: "-march=athlon64 -O0 -pipe -g -ggdb", this in FEATURES: "nostrip installsources" and do a emerge -e world.

I believe you wrote to the wrong person again?

missing ccache option, slow disk rate … saturate some PCI bus with bad organisation of devices …

tmr Okay, will try.

'slow machine' is very ambuguous thing …

Both -g and -O0 is default

Miravlix, aha, so I can just omit them?

As far as I know all of gentoo get compiled with -g, before installing binaries, it does a strip

Miravlix, so you don't think running a non-optimized system will be much slower than the standard -O2 + strip?

Hi all - how do I start diagnosing a xorg problem please?

what do you mean ?

hi there

The log files would probably be the first place to start looking

sorry for chvt: I do have things in 11th terminal, and was thinking you wanted to switch there using CLI (what is a question I asked myself 2 y ago) … and, forgot default conf do not put anything in this console …

No it wont, speed is a myth, unless you doing million of transcations pr second

/var/log/Xorg.0.log

well, I did xorgconfig, saved the .conf file and did startx and it didn't work - so where do I start diagnosing what I did wrong?

sorry, I was talking ti diseaser by mistake, do you want me to repeat myself ?

The bigger the binary the longer it takes to load into memory, but thats really the big one.

if you show us the log file … and your xorg we can help you

i ran emerege -uDNt and it said nothing to build.

doublehp, ah, yes, please, I didn't notice any of your replies…

strip boosts app laucnching; -o2 boosts execution time, depending on the coding cheme (saving CPU cache )

hard - this is on a working windows comp and laptop seperate

double No problem. I am trying to do something many will find very odd I want a cyclic script (fullscreen) to run xscreensavers directly (for additional party mode trimmings)!

/msg ?

ok - message is Fatal Server error: no screens found

/msg ping

that is way too short

doublehp, ok, np, thanks.

double I have a very basic script that starts and killall's one s/saver to the next, but iI want each to start in F/screen

use rafb.net and paste there the log file

is there a detailed description avaliable about the differences between hardened and selinux profiles?

gnome-terminal does fullscreen

Drak XFCE$ here! )

talking to me ? please ML me properly !

cant terminal do it?

ML ?

HL

and even so.. just install gnome-terminal?

anyone knowmuch about telnet.. for some reason my server is blocking telnet on port 23 but it answers on 24 and the router is set to forward to 23…

are you registered ?

Guys, in my 'script' here's an example:- /usr/lib/xscreensaver/deluxe

what could i check to see what is blocking? I do a lsof -i tcp:23 it shows it listening but doesnt answer..

default telnet is to ask 23

loading a large binary from a HDD that can do 60 MB/s should not be a real bottleneck, I hope.

you should not use telnet on UNIx, but SSH

but it anwered on port 24.. i changed the config in my bbs to 24 now it answers,..

otherwise, you can specify the port to listen in the server conf

doublehp, no, I haven't registered my nickname, if that is what you ask.

could …

did that i changed it in xinetd to 24 and it answers.. whats up with port 23 though

back - had to move a car

ah

I have a problem when running compiz-start

thought you were lost

what info should I look for to tell you ?

it says compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.

1 sec

what does that mean?

HDD caches, RAM caches … I tried to play cp, and in fact, kernel was caching the file in RAM: I could copy files up to 256M at 300M/s …. significant timings came up when I was copying files 3*RAM size …

and how do I configure it?

cosminb, try #gentoo-xeffects

consider kernel caches, FS caches, disk cache, head limits, channel limits ….

ok

you now give us a copy of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and possibly the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and paste them on the http://rafb.net

well, to make things easier, I will emerge a irc client on the laptop, then I should be able to some how paste the log file

shceduler frequency is also a problem, since it affects directly the FS driver reaction time: some file systems are optimised for large file reading rate, other for heavy use of small ones …

YES
good idea

I am not very good at working at cli though

hi Gentooers!

kernel have 3 cache policy settings

read again what I wrote you

I am using crossdev for MIPS32 crosscompilation

doublehp, so larger executables shouldn't really be a problem then? with 4GB RAM and a fast HDD?

there are websites to upload the messages

I saw that compiling uclibc with crossdev

I got AMD 1G6, above 250Hz scheduler, my box get very slow

it make automatically some choices
like endianess

mzbot, teach enmity paste

Use http://rafb.net/paste or emerge wgetpaste. Pasting in #gentoo itself clutters the chat and will get you kicked by Naamah. Use the aforementioned site and hand us the URL so we can check it out.

if you have large executable, you want stripping

I woulk have BIgEndian uclibc

but, stripping only affects launch time, not runtime

how can I pass this kind of option to crossdev?

Enmity, wgetpaste can do all that work for you

? ok - you cant just say do something like that - I have no clue how

http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/java/wiki/March_2007_Meeting_Log

ok - will emerge wgetpaste

nice Enmity

also note: 2*180G/RAID.0 is faster than 360G single disk …

hey i have a stupid question

* No manual entry for wgetpaste …

also always put your swap before / … otherwise, because the end of disk is slower than beginning: you feel a slight difference after 70%; last 8% are VERY significantly slower

what does that mean 192.168.1.0/24 … whats the /24 for?

Enmity, it's just a bash script.. `wgetpaste –help` if you need it.. or `wgetpaste (file)`

does wgetpaste –help work ?

coder_, /24 = 255.255.255.0 netmask

depending on BIOS settings, only playing RAM tweaks, I can gain ~30% speed at MEMtest

doublehp, I try to not use swap at all. I even sometimes do swapoff -a when I am confident that the 4GB RAM will be enough for what I do.

50% between most stupid slow ones, and most dangerously fast …

does wgetpaste automatically put it to rafb.net/paste?

Enmity, yes
Enmity, unless you specify another supported host

1G RAM (x86 32b) , I only swap ~300M when compiling OOo (I got xinerama with VERY LARGE screens, never less than 200 PID running, with heavy things like FF, TB, Gaim, and some KDE applets )

brb

you need to know what is slow, and what you want to boost up: launch time ? boot time ? runtime ? using cessioned applictions ? services ? reaction time ? load resistance ?
due to PCI video cards, I saturate my PCI bus, and get glitches in sound when I move windows …
RAID.0 is an improovement for large files

doublehp, no, no, I don't want to boost anything. I just wanted to know how slower I can expect my system to become if I did emerge -e world with the following CFLAGS: "-march=athlon64 -O0 -pipe -g -ggdb", FEATURES: "nostrip installsources"

Where does the xorg.conf default to again please?

diseaser, -O0 is worthless as it's the default

if you dont change anything else … 1% to 8% ?

nm

"-march=athlon64 -pipe -ggdb"

heavily depends on your CPU cach size

re

also depends on SMP settings ?

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

diaspar, i recommened against debug flags globally.. some builds wont like them

doublehp, aha, but, not very likely more than 10% slower, right?

mzbot, teach diaspar optimiz

optimization: Some forms of optimization can improve performance and usability, or reclaim memory or disk space, at very little cost. Careless optimization, on the other hand, will cost you, and indirectly, all of us. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-optimization.xml http://gentoo-wiki.com/Safe_Cflags

if you have slow scheduler, you may not feel it
if you have fast scheduler, and small cach, you could reach 20%

the Xorg.0.log is at http://rafb.net/p/AhpXpV15.html and the xorg.conf is at http://rafb.net/p/D848lt64.html

thx

wgetpaste is awesome - thats why I love linux, great little utilities like that

nearby can you tell us what Graphic Card you have ?

also depends if you have SMP machine, and your SMP policy

-O0 with debug settings for the entire system.

yes, I have a X300 radeon mobility

doublehp, I have a dual core AMD

ah ok

then this is a very bi gissue !
AMD is not designed at all the same way as Intel
and Linux have specific options for that

doublehp, /proc/cpuinfo says 256KB cache

ahh ohh

ouch

the problem is not the fact that it were no screens found

i installed

if you develop loops, you WILL feel the difference

xfce4
so

diaspar, i wish you the best on that venture… strace works fine with optimization tools

how can i install this

lspci lists it as M22 [Mobility Radeon X300]

http://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Nova?content=57310&PHPSESSID=262873fd4e0ba324e344e52d4e4111c9
i want to install

-O3 from memory

please don't develop me without my permission

1 line per sentence != 1 line per word !!!

doublehp, -O3 is very broken on many builds

the problem of xorg is it doesnt know the radeon module

female human being ? if no, unintereting topic.

in the xorg.0.log you can see the lines marked with (EE)

help me pls

Hmm - in the make.conf I put video_cards="fglrx" just as the guide said

grknight, I just want to be able to see any point in the system as it works. Having debugging info and no optimization into the binaries should be a big help.

ask in http://forums.gentoo.org/
to recall a point: impact of you test WILL depend on other settings: the faster scheduler wil produce bigger difference … for example

and I am prepared to bear a performance penalty for this opportuinty unless of course the penalty is very big, let's say a twice slower system…

I am not sure about ati … but did you emerge the drivers ?

also depends on HDD response time …

what s your problem ?

doublehp, ok, as a rough estimate 20% slower at the most? I this a believable figure?

I am sure I emerged a ati-drivers package that was a fairly big download

hmmm

how may I check?

check what? you mean if you installed the drivers ?
emerge -s ati-drivers …

Enmity, run `ati-config –initial`

1 word per line is not a way to interact with this chan. You sound to attemps to do manually what can be done a Gentoo way. You sound newb, so, I point you to a place where people will have more time to deal with this kind of problems; sounds to me it will require a long explanation, that I cant handle in here.

what is the mdadm syntax to activate an existing array (the system is broken, I'm running a livecd)
?

thx for helping nearby

only playing software settings, I dont think you should get more than this

grknight, by the way, what do you mean the some ebuilds don't like debug flags? will they fail to build?

ok - that did something - now try startx again?

diaspar, yes
Enmity, your xorg.conf file should have changed

shut up pls..

yes - saved backup to .original-0 …

Enmity, should work better now

doublehp, ok, thanks. This sounds acceptable, so will just try and see what happens ;-) It will just cost me a day to recompile everything. With -O0 it should even compile a bit faster.

it's said that small optimisation hardly improove -5% … so, bad settings should not slow +20%

nearly - did something for a while

Enmity, new log please

scanning error bleh

in some case, you wont notice it at all …

sometimes I think grknight is a bot

doublehp, ok, sounds it's worth the try. thank you!

mzbot, botsnack

*chomp*

^^

]/nick CoCO_Kid594

if by the way, you do optimise all other settings, you still may get faster machine ^^

grknight, Can I turn off debug flags on a per-package basis if a package fails?

Santanabaer, just been here a while

;D hehe

diaspar, not without changing CFLAGS globally

flag or feature ?

grknight, doublehp flag, like "-ggdb"

flags can be handled individually in /etc/portage/package.use

… hi everybody .. anyone can tell me how can I generate a initrd using vanilla ?

doublehp, wrong kind of flag

but this wont hadle FEATURES or CFLAGS

doublehp, flag like in CFLAG

new error log at http://rafb.net/p/AqIyhJ64.html - think I need to enable dri in kernel

I dont think Gentoo can hadle single ebuild CFLAG settings

runnsing insight fails with the following message in the console: Tk_Init failed: this isn't a Tk applicationinvalid color name "#efefef "

an initrd is just a filesystem in a file, I think gentoo0wiki has good docs on how to create it

where can I check that port 23 is not being blocked. in my xientd it is there and in my router. but when i set my bbs to port 23 it wont answer?

dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so failed

read man emerge that explains sintaxe of /etc/portage , you may find something I am not aware about

diaspar i found a script some time ago in the gentoo-forums which enabled cflag-enabling/disabling for specific packages

ok .. I'll check .. the problem is that it seems my vanilla won't boot-up without initrd ( it can't load real_root=/dev/md3 )

have also a glance at Gentoo book

diaspar do a search there.

hmm yea … uhm I am not sure but can you look in your xorg.conf if DRI is enabled ?

Enmity, if I were you I would try the ati oss driver and not fglrx
fglrx made me cry
especially for dualhead

Ok thanks, I will just try and see what happens. I can thereafter report on how terrible the system has become. Or not become ;-)

hi! where can i see which mouse button number of xmodmap has which function?

Enmity, you do not want kernel DRM support for fglrx or else it will not work

Arnie-: xinerama ?

doublehp, no the fglrx driver just sucks
bigtime

Arnie-: dualhead without xinerama usually have less bugs … thats why I am asking you to specify

you dont need xinerama with fglrx
oh

ok - most of that was gibberish to me

well getting fglrx to work properly with my 9700 pro was a pain, it just didn't do what I was telling it

Enmity, you're getting that error because fglrx does not do AIGLX

oh, btw, anyone knows of some ati avivo driver ebuild?

you're the other one with the logitech rx1000?^^

Arnie-: I tried both … and, using xinerama or not is really a matter of taste …

xinerama with fglrx?

Enmity, to fix that message, you have to turn off AIGLX

thanks for fix btw

so he could substitute fglrx with ati in make.conf ?

no problem

Santanabaer, it's working now.. it just depends on what Enmity wants to do

is there a good checklist for a gentoo install?

ok, how?

still, breaking conf syntax compatibility is *bad*

well for what it's worth, I got me a NVidia card now and it is working flawlessly, with beryl \o/

mzbot, teach Drakonen handbook

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml

a quick check list ?

thats as quick as it gets

Enmity, in xorg.conf in the ServerFlags section, put a new line `Option "AIGLX" "off"`
(minus the `

yepp….

teach BlackBishop initrd

No such faq

ok

hmm ..

mzbot, wiki BlackBishop initrd making

http://gentoo-wiki.com/Making_%22broken%22_Intel_video_BIOS_play_nice

mzbot, fail

:'(

teach Drakonen checklist

No such faq

Drakonen, the handbook is a step by step of how to install gentoo

yeah i know

Arnie-: I got matrox 400 (dual head AGP, miroring), an 3 PCI cards (2 Matrox ME, one 3DFX): system is very slow, but, it boots, and Xinerama "works" (as well as it can work with E17 ): no blinking pixel, no significant visible issue (only sound problems ). I dont use DRI at all

i've done it a few times alrweady, so now i'd like a quick checklist

and it's a great one too !

doublehp, yeah ok, I know xinerama is good for that

he can understand "me" keyword

doublehp, what I was referring to is fglrx's built-in dualhead support which was not working at all

so .. care to point me to that initrd thingy please ?

doublehp, and fglrx in general just works poorly if I compare it to how it worked like 2 years ago

Arnie-: and that may not be compatible with features of E17 I use

doublehp, I was kind of bummed
what's E17?

Enlightenment

oh

wm

Arnie-: it's our future

hehe

depends :P

I haven't tried enlightenment in a long while

Arnie-: you should ! it's pretty ! )

Arnie-: since february 2005, it's stable and usable.

interesting
I'll check it out again sometime soon
my laptop needs a reinstall anyway

of course its pretty … fluxbox is pretty too … BUT never managed how to configure the surface

I try it since 2000 … now 2 years it' "usable"

1.2G /usr/portage/distfiles/

lol

how to see what is my DDR RAM speed in MHz

Arnie-: then , try it BEFORE format … to get familiar with installatin issues
Arnie-: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_e17

ok did that, but could someone still explain what I am doing and why please? Otherwise I don't learn

okay, thanks

Arnie-: which is in fact, *never up to date* (due to Raster playing cvs every day), but, quiet frequently … tipped

doublehp, ok

oh - and it still is not working - realling error bleh now

cool

dmidecode -s memmory (if i remember correctly)
oh wait, -t memory

its still not working ?
oh Enmity

Arnie-: using laptop, you should take care about touchpad settings … new drivers are REALLY wonderfull …

grgl .. I can't find the wiki about generating initrd .. so I guess I'll use genkernel's .. ( that seems to work for now .. )

BlackBishop, i can't find anything quickly. google around. i always make my initramfs with genkernel

Arnie-: to the point I dismounted a touchpad from the bin to solder it on PS2 port for my station …
Arnie-: you get more features from synaptics than with any 999 buttons USB mouse

ok .. can I use genkernel to create a initramfs for my vanilla ?

doublehp, lol, cool

you could try that what Arnie- said and use ati oss driver instead of the fglrx

Arnie-: they are starting OCR on touchpad to launch apps …

Enmity, AIGLX is a new way of displaying some things.. something like Beryl and Compiz uses it

doublehp, nice!

Enmity, what's the problem now?

Arnie-: that would of course be handled a different way than standard mouse: this means … it opens more doors than the traditionnal way …

BlackBishop, yes it can

5ns, it is 200MHz right, so my multiplier is 4 ?

ahm .. how ?

BlackBishop, genkernel does not care what kernel it is.. it's just a build tool

doublehp, yeah I see that

oh .. so all I have to do is ln -s /path/to/vanilla /usr/src/linux ?

BlackBishop, either that or you can specify in the switches.. the manual and –help are very complete

oh … cool !

ok these few days are getting major frustrating… pppoe in gentoo 2007.0 is broken, wlan don't work, wanted to see how ubuntu works, now that one just hangs on various places when using livecd (no to mention it takes a decade to load lol)
I'm running out of hope here

Think I stuffed up where I typed in that option command - what part of the xorg.conf file? I can;t find a ServerFlags part except at the top where everything is commented out

What's a *REALLY* reliable and reasonably fast FS?

id go for ext3

Enmity, that's the correct area.. it's normal not to have too much in ServerFlags

i dont know
can you reboot and look in the bios?

actually what'
actually what's the difference between gentoo 2007.0 pppoe, 2006.1 adsl and ubuntus pppoe

grk so I comment out the jboss server hosting flags line as well?

since all works well with the other 2, just the 2007.0 doesn't

can someone tell how long configuration for kernel is valid? is it only valid for a patchlevel? for a minor version?

no

i mean can i tage a configuration from 2.6.19 and compile hosting a 2.6.21 with it?

i was in bios i could move from 533-666-800

Enmity, no.. you want it to look like ` Section ServerFlags (newline) Option "AIGLX" "off" (newline) EndSection ` comments in between wont hurt it

Run make oldconfig on it, and, it should work.

actually thats why I always write an xorg.conf on my own … and delete all the comments I dont need
better overview

mkay, I'm doomed, google doesn't help, irc doesn't help ;D

oldconfig converts it?

look on the memory modules?

i saw on them 800 MHz Kingmax
but i wanted to recheck it from linux

Basically. It will prompt you for any new stuff that's been added to the kernel since your config was generated. I usually just hold down enter during that, and, add stuff in menuconfig.

linux tells you whatever the bios tells it

um. which pppoe?

and if i use genkernel ? am i automatically promted because then there s not make

SkunkyFone, the one in 2007.0 livecd

ok thanks - that was clearer

hi there, where can I find the k8temp module in a vanilla?

trying again

atikx, it connects but I can't ping anything "destination unreachable", tho everything is fine with the old adsl and ubuntus pppoe

nope

pleed, you can go in to /etc/kernels and copy over the original to the new version and genkernel will run oldconfig for you

lol, did I just message myself?

can you maybe show us the new xorg.conf ?

Genkernel might do it, I'm not sure though. I only use genkernel on my server for initrd

yup - will wgetpaste both again
thanks for your help btw

Got a problem installing ndiswrapper on an AMD64 system running gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r4

SkunkyFone, no ideas?

all thx goes to grknight

but in the gentoo installation doc i copy the actual config ( /proc/config.gz ) into /usr/share/genkernel…

i need pixmap engine
how can i install it ?

* x11-themes/gtk-engines-qtpixmap Latest version available: 0.28-r2 Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]

which pppoe are you trying to use? the rp-pppod thing, or the in-kernel pppoe?

I get "crt.c:1: sorry, unimplemented; 64-bit mode is not compiled in"

by emerging that ?

But I can't find any kernel options that look relevant. any ideas?

sounds like you're running a 32-bit kernel with a 64-bit installation

pleed, this is a better way… /etc/kernels are your customized versions with any changes via `genkernel –menuconfig` and iit's much saner than overwriting the default

SkunkyFone, I kinda have no idea, I just pppoe-setup and pppoe-start

ok, Log at http://raftb.net/p/jeBQx620.html

Frigolit, Looks like you're right. why did it ignore cflags?

you re-used a previously configured kernel from a 32-bit system?

xorg.conf is at http://raftb.net/p/1xfrLW71.html

the kernel config or binary

Frigolit, No, freshly built.

both links dont work

I'm checking my make.conf now, although I'm rebuilding the system and reusing the old one

typo - soz

/etc/kernels/kernelversion right? and then oldconfig will be automatically executed

that's nice. you need to ya know, check what you've got installed.

did you see any 64-bit only options at all when you configured the kernel?

pleed, no.. open /etc/kernels there is already an existing one from your 2.6.19 build

like "Executable file formats" is named "Executable file formats / Emulations" and has IA32 emu, etc etc etc, otherwise it, for some reason, compiled a 32-bit kernel

Log at http://rafb.net/p/jeBQx620.html and xorg.conf at http://rafb.net/p/1xfrLW71.html

ahh yeah noticed the t

pleed, just copy it to the new version

isnt it the same if i use /etc/kernels/ or /proc/config.gz?

pleed, not always, because genkernel prefers that file over any other when making a kernel. so you can make changes and customize from there

can someone perhaps assist me in setting up a home mail system?

ok thanks

ah, genkernel. bah on genkernel.

SkunkyFone, genkernel stores it's configs there

there are many, many howto's and guides on gentoo.org and the wiki…

Frigolit, uname -a confirms it's 32bit (i686) and I didn't see anything like you mentioned so it looks like I have a 32bit kernel.

they all seem to try and setup up something for multiple domains
or their outdated

okay, did you use genkernel or something like that? also check your CHOST, etc

SkunkyFone, so like, what should I do )?

also, you did download the amd64 gentoo cd and stage file, right? just checking, cause i picked the wrong one once

um. get a decent dsl/cable modem that does pppoe itself.

hmmm

…. that may be it.

nothing obvisous in the error spew that I can make any sense of? twm not installed?

^^ ouch

what I deduce from log its still the radeon driver
?
didnt you say it changed ?

SkunkyFone, that is the most intelligent answer I got ever as in… my hw sux, only coz gentoo's pppoe doesn't work properly
yeah, ty

That's not "decent", that
bollocks

no no, gentoo's pppoe works fine, if you can figure out which one you're using.

Santanabaer, the radeon driver is still referenced but not used.. the ServerLayout says so

pppoe is just. stupid.

So is your. syntax.

that would make sense, as your gcc isn't made for compiling for 64-bit system, yet, you're forcing it too, so it blows up

LOL

did I edit the xorg.conf right

can i install 32 bit software on intelcoreduo?

ahh you mean the entry Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0

core, or core2? core is 32 bit, core2 is 64 bit.

Enmity, so when you `startx` it says can't find twm?

say a E6750

A core 2 duo can run 32-bit.

last lines are "/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc: line 45: twm: command not found

ok thnx so i do not need gentoo 64bit

Right.

no, you don't HAVE to run 64-bit

ok ty

Enmity, `emerge -av xorg-x11` it should want to install some things

and a few more lines similiar with xclock, and xterm

no, you don't NEED it, but if you have core2, you CAN run 64 bit, if you want.

ok, will try

what's your problem? x starts and immediately quits?

i heard there are issues w 64
?

does lsmod show something ?

only for drivers and other things including ASM code not made for 64-bit systems

there's "issues" with anything.

Santanabaer, Enmity now has a working Xorg.. just no supporting programs

hehe yes i see

hmm I wonder why the log doesnt show the last lines he mentioned

says one package (1 reinstall) 0kb download - proceed?

Santanabaer, becasuse xinit doesn't get logged there
Enmity, that's very odd

a quad core 6600 cost 290 eu mb ill buy it

lsmod shows fglrx loaded

Enmity, say no and do `emerge -1 twm xterm`

well yeah then grknight is right … I just dont have much clue when its about xinit

you have a wm installed at all? :/

it starts and immediately quits

no window manager then, they're not included with the xorg package

Frigolit, a basic one is

twm right ?

when i try to startt apache now i get Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_cgi.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_cgi.so: undefined symbol: apr_procattr_addrspace_set

hm, dunno the name of it, but the one it's trying to start obviously isn't

usually I got to run my X even without ever having configured an xorg.conf

FrigolitI have bloackbox and enlightenment emerged

so there's nothing wrong with your x, other than you have no window manager, no xterm, nothing for it to start

what package is mod_cgi in so i can re-emerge it?

Enmity, which window/desktop manager do you want to use?

then you should edit your ~/.xinitrc to start one of those

is this a good profile? /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2007.0/server/

what do i need to do to get mod_cgi reinstalled in apache?

ok, looking at my .xinitrc
I don't have one

Enmity, which window/desktop manager do you want to use?

~/.xinitrc

depends on what enlightenment is emerged
hope I aint talking bullshit I had it that way

Enmity, there is a way to default the window manager globally.. look in /etc/X11/Sessions to see what is available.. then edit /etc/rc.conf to match it
uEnmity, there is a way to default the window manager globally.. look in /etc/X11/Sessions to see what is available.. then edit /etc/rc.conf to match it/u

hi

lol Enmity you almost are done

i can't write in my samba directory but i set the writable stuff = yes
why is that so?

anyway .. before tryin' to use vanilla .. there was an emtpy result when doin' "ip ru li" ( weird .. )

if you just emerge gnome in an install with out xserver wont it just install it

hi guys, how can I tell X to not go blank after n minutes, I don't Have Gnome or KDE Installed, just X

ok - checked out what enlightenment I have

JMartinC, man xorg.conf

JMartinC hint - dpms

NeddySeagoon, JMartinC also a ServerFlag

enlightenment did not install correctly it seems

found it,, thx..

hmmm

coder_, the samba user has to have write permision to the directory i think

what did you say you have too ?
Fluxbox ?

`-mcpu=' is deprecated. Use `-mtune=' or '-march=' instead. — in make.conf.example -mcpu=athlon-xp is recommended, eny comments on how to 'fix' this?

oh how do i set the permission?

grknight, thanks

coder_, chmod

with chmod

ok
thanks

emerge imlib2 with USE=X ? I have use=X in my make.conf

Enmity, for your sanity, please check into /etc/X11/Sessions

can I emerge twm to test it at the moment?

Drakonen, -march implies -mtune use -march

Enmity, those are the sessions available on your system

lists blackbox and Xsession

ahh yeah

Enmity, those are the two currently installed.. please change /etc/rc.conf and put XSESSION="blackbox"

then enlightenment must have failed

Enmity, after you change that.. `startx` will start blackbox

I can use 884.13MB of my 1GB of ram… What do I need to change in kernel config?

just tried startx /usr/bin/blackbox and it worked!

highmem support

thanks

good
nice Enmity

Enmity, since something is not completely right.. i would first `emerge -avDN world` to make sure your USE flags are up to date across your system.. then `revdep-rebuild` to make sure everything is consistent

hmmm the docs are confusing… they suggest that up to 1GB is fine with no highmem…

so now I have a GUI

BAH, i suppose i am not reading it literally enough
i think it means "up to AND NOT INCLUDING" 1GB…

they suggest it until 850meg or so? right?

(if you don't have revdep-rebuild, it's part of gentoolkit)

oeh /me installs gentoolkit

I am sure I have done that as the last part of the handbook install? I am actually pretty good at following the step by step instructions and the handbook is really good
but I will do it again

Enmity, it never hurts to redo it as it will only remerge what has changed

is there a way to tell which boot parameters the current kernel was started with?
i forgot what i did to get it working

cat /proc/cmdline

thanks

how do I remove something installed with emerge? Since all the removeal things in the manual seem so say "don't use this, it might stupidly uninsall important things" in their usage descriptions?

emerge -C to deinstall

ahm .. does anybody know if I need eth alias for each and every IP I can route inorder to do SNAT ?

i generally do emerge –unmerge
oh…
hmmm am i wrong?

I have no idea

oh wait

:P My terminal is currently busy.

it's ok, -C and –unmerge are the same thing
sorry, mistook you for HazardX2

use man emerge for more info
oops
same -.-

use screen to make your terminal not be busy

Well, my client highlights hazard as well as hazardX2 as being my name, so it dosen't matter

still, the other go won't like lots of highlights
other guy*

I know about screen, I'm just not so great at managing more than, maybe two using it

I have just done the 'emerge -avDN world' and it didn't mention enlightenment at all - how do I redo enlightenment from scratch with all dependencies? Could it be with my use flag settings?

I suppose, but that's his problem for stealing part of *my* name ^_^

that's where nickserv comes in handy

The reason I say this is because I have not messed with my USE= settings much - I just have USE="X -gnome -kde DVD alsa"

wow
thats what I call short

i changed my profile so and now i cant emerge kde-meta (or anything) i did this: ln -snf /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop/make.defaults /etc/make.profile | was that wrong? thanks

Enmity, does `emerge -av enlightenment` want to continue installing or just do 1 package?

IIRC there is a good app to help set your USE flags but think I needed a gui to run it

ufed

ok - emerge world just finished - doing revdep now

OuZo, use `eselect profile list` then take that number and `eselect profile set #`

you probably should've used eselect profile :q

ha ! faster once more

thanks grknight ill try that

Dynamic linking in my system is consisent Thank god! hate to think I had screwed up my system already
Dynamic linking in my system is consisent Thank god! hate to think I had screwed up my system already

^^

I use to run emerge –depclean and then revdep-rebuild

Is it possible to get 3d without the ati-drivers package but the x11 package?

Santanabaer, i really hope –depclean gets better in next portage
laen, for which ati card?

ati radeon 9600XT

laen, yes.. use the open source radeon driver

me too grknight though if we are carefull and keep an eye on it nothing bad happens

Will that open source driver have slower 3D?

laen, not that i've heard.. it's still dri

hi

output of 'emerge -av enlightenment' gives 1 package, (1 new) 0kb but lists USE="nls -doc -esd -xcomposite -xinerama -xrandr"

mzbot, wiki laen open source ati

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_DRI_with_ATi_Open-Source_Drivers

Cool so i can expect the same framerate in games with the open source as using the closed source ati-drivers?

i wanted to ask if there's a way to check which installed packages depend on a given package?

Enmity, it never finished and you probably want xrandr

hey i just emerged world, and i lost sound

laen, for your card, they are similar that i've heard

well, still gives the msg "emerge imlib2 with USE=X

cool, thanks a lot

you mean for example emerge -avt … ?

one more question.. what if it's an ati 9800 instead of 9600?

but I will just learn blackbox for the moment - supposed to be lean and clean

laen, getting ~550fps from glxgears on this old alpha box
laen, same result

can someone help me get my sound working?

you just made my day

what is a good app to help set up my USE= variable?

did you emerge alsa ?
use ufed

Enmity, all that means is to `emerge -1av imlib2`
Enmity, i also like the package flagedit for console use

my sound was working fine, now it's not

no i want to know for which packages a given package is a dependency

hm… is "[?] indicates that the source repository could not be determined" good or bad :p

ok imlib2 now compiling

ahh sorry Przemcio78 no ida

Przemcio78, a good place is http://gentoo-portage.com or you can possibly use the package udept

hi

udept is masked for me

i have alsa-lib,alsa-oss,alsa-headers, gst-plugins-alsa, and alsa-utils installed

"EBDA is big kernel setup stack overlaps lilo second stage" … i've compiled alsa with genkernel, and then reboot, but give me this in lilo screen

did you check alsamixer if maybe some controllers are completly down ?

hm well i just ran alsaconf and it fixed itself somehow

i wanted to know for which INSTALLED packages is a given package dependency

neat :P

so works again ?

yeah

gentoo-portage.com won't help me then

nice

Przemcio78, then try udept

but the second option he mentioned

equery

is that a package ?

it;s part of gentoolkit

ah oh
hmm really nice

it is

thanks

hmm that would mean if I find a package that has no dependencies I can easily boot it off my system without think of it anymore

was looking on that page on the wiki you gave me, and at my card.. it's an RV350 AR chipset Radeon 9600 / 9600XT.. the only thing the page mentions is the 9600XT mobility and r300 chipset :O

laen, the wiki is only as complete as the person who wrote it.. the open source driver includes most ati cards upto X800

Aaah

Hey guys.. I've just created a chroot jail, I've copied bash and all it's libraries to the right locations, but when I try chrooting into it.. it's telling me the libraries arn't there.. Anyone got any ideas?

ok peeps, its nearly midnight here and I think my brain has had enough abuse for one night - now I have made progress i can sleep more soundly. BIG thanks to everyone for thier help with getting X working, and I think the X desktop guide needs a bit more work =/ I would still like to know what I did etc and if hardware acceleration will still work - but thats for another night! night all

Enmity, grats, 3 days and I still didn't get pppoe to work ^^

man
i cant emerge courier-authlib because vpopmail isnt installed
what gave courier-authlib the idea i want vpopmail?

missing ldconfig?

yep, I think you could be right.. I completely forgot about that, I'll give it a go, cheers

maybe some use flag or just a needed dependency ?

the useflag is turned off according to ufed

um. never trust what ufed says.

and when i do emerge -pv courier-authlib doesnt show it wants vpopmail

so, what makes yout hink itneeds it then?

maybe a missing entry in the ebuild

not compiling due to missing vpopmail headers

odd. very odd. worked for me, the last time i emerged it.

everything i found on setting up a decent mail system fails

paste your emerge –info and the error from your emerge

http://pastebin.ca/637058 this is the –info

all working now, thanks for that..

woo hoo! i love it when i guess and it's the right thing. (:

Hi, I lost power during my gentoo install. I had chrooted, and I had ran make && make modules_install but not copied the compiled kernel in yet. Do I need to start my install over? I don't see anything in /mnt/gentoo anymore.

you need to do the mount steps as well
mount everything you had mounted before
chroot
env-update && source /etc/profile
and your back to where you lost power

How can you make super and menu act as meta keys like shift, alt, ctrl?

worch, in Xorg? With xmodmap.

Isn't there anyway I could only download a package through emerge ?

CVirus, –fetchonly

without compiling? -f

http://pastebin.ca/637062 is the first error i got

read the man - or use -f

do i need to download the stage3 and install portage again?

nope

thanks

if the kernel compiled correctly you can copy it over now

running mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc gives me an error : mount point does not exist… that's the first mounting step in the handbook

create all directories again

i tried to touch that file its missing and emerged it again then i got this http://pastebin.ca/637065
read a bit back
you need to mount something on /mnt/gentoo first

okay, i'll look for that, thanks
so the stage tarball and portage are still _somewhere_?
and the kernel i set up

yes

paste the whole emerge output for that.
emerge courier-authlib | wgetpaste or | nopaste

with the file touched or without

the first

chroot is magic

yes, voodoo magic

without the file is the real error
so i think thats the best to do

i see that the page says nothing about setting VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" in make.conf.. is that correct that there should be no such setting?

laen, that's correct

Ah, so the kernel module is the best way to do it?

laen, the kernel module is 1/2 of the open source.. it provides the DRM.. the other part is the xorg driver

yeah cause even if i don't set it, xorg will install libdrm

laen, but you won't get the full driver if you don't set it

how can i remind myself what version kernel i emerged? / what is the current default gentoo-sources kernel version?

laen, xf86-video-ati is the package that VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" turns on

you shouldve created a linux symlink

and we don't want that right?

ln -s /usr/src/linux

so i did
thanks ,duh

So.. no xf86-ati-drivers, should i use the dri USE flag though? xorg-server has that USE..

http://rafb.net/p/qQgWtR90.html

laen, you want that driver

which one, the dri or xf86-ati-drivers

laen, both

so i _should_ set ViDEO_CARDS="radeon" in make.conf?

laen, yes

Ah that was a little confusing since the guide doesn't say anything about it.

laen, wiki's aren't always perfect

:P

is there anyway to have guarddog automatically start when i reboot?

can someone tell me the package that is owning /usr/lib/libacl.la
equery b /usr/lib/libacl.la please ?

acl
sys-apps/acl

aha
-)

well why would konqueror and friends cry for that library file
when i dont have acl in my USE flags
and they dont pull it as a dep :O

mmh, changed useflags / profile recently?

no

revdep-rebuild ?

i run one today morning
it didnt pull any packages

strange …

try installing the ~ version please
did you have vpopmail installed and then un-install it?

is there anyway to have guarddog automatically start when i reboot?

if it has an init script it's very easy
otherwise you can abuse /etc/init.d/local.start
or rather its config file /etc/conf.d/local.start

that is one of the most wonderfully abusable config files there is

hehe definitely
I've used screen with autodetach to start stuff in a screen session there

is there a way to checkif there is a init script?

i wish there was one earlier in the boot sequence though
i ended up putting one in myself cause i wanted to set different schedulers on different drives

look in /etc/init.d/

(early to make boot faster)

write one yourself ;-) (or stop rebooting)

thing is there are already things which are right at the start of the process
so you cant say before all
gentoo needs a config files for commands to be run as soon as init starts

kernel boot parameter ;-)

you can run commands that way?
(other than init?)

can tweak a few bits
e.g. scheduler
but not everything

ooh right
but surely that's only the default schedular?

how much speed difference have you seen?

well quite a bit
well quite a bit on USB flash drives
which like the noop sched
but since i don't know what dev entry they get assigned to

there does not seem to be an init script in /etc/init.d….. i can place a link in my KDE autostart under my home directory, but it always asks for my root password

i have to set noop as the system default then override it manually for each normal drive

local.start it is then

what is the command which shows a list of processes accessing a given file/partition?

lsof ?

(i forget this, regularly, every fortnight)
doesnt' that jsut show which files a given process has open?

i think i may be confused. Guarddog is KDE frontend to the system's iptables… so now that i think about it I should not need guarddog to run at all, unless I want to change the iptable settings….

ah :-) yes, only iptables is needed then

the problem is when i reboot, my iptable settings do not appear to be running, i tested this by disabling a protocol and when I had the iptables running the block worked… but when i reboot i am able to access the protocol/.

/etc/init.d/iptables save, rc-update add iptables default
^^ that should restore the settings

pingzor

stab! errr … pong!

is there a way for me access cd? Feature only available with HAL

you mean auto-mounting discs?

yes

that needs hal+dbus etc.
otherwise you have to mount it manually

how do I do it?

mount /dev/your_cdrom_drive /mountpoint where your_cdrom_drive and mountpoint need to be replaced with your specific settings

how do I make it to mount automatically?

that depends on your window manager mostly

I use kde

i did try vpopmail at one point yes and i unmerged it

afternoon, im trying to get gmpc to work, I have emerged it but I take i need to do some things with mpd first. Anyone able to talk me through what I should be doing?

you left some of the config files lying around. you need to get rid of them.

how can i find them

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_D-BUS%2C_HAL%2C_KDE_media:/ might be of interest

thank you

well … emerge mpd and configure it
err
emerge mpd and configure it

dunno.

ignore me ;-)

bueno

is there a way to disable to window movement key in xorg?

disable WHAT?

by default it is the super key. you hold it down an drag a window to move it. It's in the window preferences for xorg

oh I assumed mpd would have been done as a dependency. It seems I can't emerge media-sound/mpd as it fails. I do have libmpd

xorg has no window preferences. your window or desktop manager does.

agreed with SkunkyFone

oh, that would be gnome then

look in your window behaviour settings
or something similar
I remember you can change the key
or else look into the shortcuts

i see that you can change the key, but i'm not seeing a way to disable it

hmm

hi all

if it disturbs you you could always set it to a key which you dont use at all

it has a choice of alt, control and super. i use those three unfortunately

has someone experience with openafs, how is it compared to nfs?

can you change it to nothing?

nope
at least it isnt where im looking

in portage there is a relatively old version (1.4.4) marked as stable but the openafs.org page says that 1.5.21 is newest

it depends on what you wanna do with it….

how does openafs scale/perform compared to nfs?

maybe it's one of those "have to edit the config file" kinds of changes

well i wanna get rid of nfs because i hate to wait for my files to get transfered at 30kb over a 100mb lan
i'm tired of this nfs mess that i have since many years

actually on xfce4 for example I can change it in Window Manager Tweaks

NFS is very fast, AFS is unpredictable
if you have such performance issues it is most likely a wonky config or bad network

i have a 4×320gb disk raid5 array (based on ext3). now i have purchased 500gb disks. what procedure can i follow to move and expand onto new disks using mdadm and lvm?

um. whatmakesyou think afs will befaster?

create a new raid volume, copy stuff, take down old raid?

I love this suggestion from an emerge of gtk " emerge -va1 $(qfile -qC /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.[^1]*)"
bI love this suggestion from an emerge of gtk " emerge -va1 $(qfile -qC /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.[^1]*)"/b

i might make the switch to xfce soon

raid5 code will let you grow the array, with a switch to mdadm

nice

mmmh tasty …

DrEeevil:

DrEeevil SkunkyFone there are no more sata ports available. do i miss what you mean?

it's actually the answer to a great question..i.e. how do I reemerge everything that has installed into a particular directory
it's actually the answer to a great question..i.e. how do I reemerge everything that has installed into a particular directory
it's exactly I needed about a month ago but didn't know about

well nfs is not very fast here, my switch tells me that while i'm transferring something over lan with nfs there are massive crc problems occurring and dmesg tells me that the nfs server timeouts many times (dmesg gets flooded with it) but i can ping the server with a perfectly low ping time, the load avg on the nfs server is low and the network also is perfectly working because with netcat i can transfer files from one host to
another without any problems and full 100mbit speed

is this nfs over tcp or udp?

hi all

read what i've wrote to DrEeevil and i don't know if it will be faster, i just wanna try it
wireshark tells me udp

that's your problem

don't ask me how to setup nfs over tcp
hmm

you have a raid5 array. you fail a disk out, you replace it with a new, bigger disk, you let it sync

crc problems? erm … that does not sound right

it's easy.. just change the config file to say tcp

do that will all the disks, then grow the filesystem onto the bigger array

I can easily flood a 100Mbit lan with NFS here

udp can't cope with anything out of the ordinary

you're not starting enough threads for your nfs server

that's what my switch tells me, of course it doesn't has so superb diagnostic possibilities
there are running 8 and the idling, only 2-4 show up in top in the upper cpu usage ranks

SkunkyFone i see. will it let me grow the array with a partition that is bigger than the old disks?

s/the/they

that's the idea.

you may of course have more than one problem but always use nfs over tcp if you can

I'd guess you have suboptimal cabling

SkunkyFone thanks, trying it now

I've not tried it, just read about it on the mailing list

SkunkyFone do you have a link for me?

hmm as i said, i've tested this with several netcat file (big ones) transfers over the lan and i made always an md5sum of the files transfered and they showed no problems and the transfers where all at 100mb and the switch didn't show anything in it's event log when i was transferring with netcat

not from here, sorry. i'm at work on my lappy

SkunkyFone aye, thanks for helping

hmm, that limits the options :-) sounds like a broken NFS implementation then

that's why i thought about replacing it with something else

I have never seen such a localised NFS problem

did you try netcat with tcp or udp?

afs will not fix your problem.
it will just suck up a few days of your life trying to make it work.

i dunno, was sometime ago when i did this
yes i figured so much, that's why i decided to ask first before i jump into this

hi, i had trouble unmerging rosegarden, anyone care to take a look? http://rafb.net/p/arthEg46.html

Can you describe the network? Is there a lower MTU segment in it, like a WAN or VPN gateway?

looks like someone removed an eclass they shouldn't have…

ok moment plz

this rosegarden in from an overlay. i took out that overlay. that has to be the problem right?

wasn't me!

i will just put the overlay back temporarily for the unmerging and then it's good, right?

yes, I think so

okay, thanks

does everybody of you use ccache ?

Not me.

from what the website says it shall be much faster on further compiles than a normal one

I get this when I try to emerge rosegarden, which makes me things it's eally old an unmaintained: /usr/portage/media-sound/rosegarden/rosegarden-1.5.1.ebuild: line 69: cmake: command not found
I use it. It helps a lot on recompiles, and somewhat on common compiles.

di I just need to install it and nothing more ?
do*

i have emerged it from the proaudio overlay

no direct rendering and i think i found problem butr i dunno how to solve it =(

so what's the problem?

NVIDIA Corporation client glx vendor string: SGI OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation

SGI - it's not NVIDIA Corporation
but it should be

did you forget to eselect opengl ?

NVIDIA Corporation — that's how it should be, yes _

SkunkyFone nope

YOu need to refer to it in the FEATURES setting in /etc/make.conf.

alright hey thx m8

i had this problem when i switched from ATI to nVidia, i think i solved it by re-emerging xorg, or well, i waited for an update so it would be emerged

Frigolit update of xorg?

I'd investigate the proaudio overlay to see if there is some doc or info about the eclasses the use. Maybe they supply some extra eclasses to use.

yea, cause i was too lazy to re-emerge it myself :P but i dunno it that was the exact solution, it did however solve itself after a world upgrade

thnx
i gonna google a little bit - maybe there is answer

Or, they might spcify which version of portage you have to be running. YOu may have to downgrade portage until the exteutils.eclass reappears. Gentoo CVS can tell you when that file was deleted.

the #DISTCC_DIR="${PORT_TMPDIR}/.distcc"
can be set to "$~/.distcc ?

not recommended

alright .. I think that the 2 GB of cache size are not that relevant for my drive anyway … I was just a bit frightened

Frigolit 0I3B2 7:I84CL
sorry
found problem

VIDEO_CARD="nvidia" instead of VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia"

Useless Use Of Cat! grep nvidia /etc/make.conf

any tools to rip HD-DVD?

more sophisticated than mplayer?
ah where did he go?
oh, i'm spelling his nick wrong =/

unity, dont care
unity, are there any tools yet?

by sophisticated, i mean if you wanted more easy-to-use. mencoder does it and probably ffmpeg, everything else would just be a frontend to those

unity, yes, i just need a cli

sorry, spoke too soon. apparently these new hd-dvds have some sort of encryption?

unity, is there a frontend on Windows/Mac ?
unity, of course
