Hey Im a Drupal newbie but an experienced programmer-sysadmin Has anybody read Pro Drupal Development by John
damn
eyach crud
chx/pwolanin: okay, so my bad. gotta use access callback instead then, thanks
I noticed there is no real "what is Drupal?" session at froscon
I submitted one, but it was not accepted
that's strange
did they say, why?
no
I submitted four presentations
of which "Was ist Drupal?" and "Lokalisierung für Drupal" were rejected
well they probably thought you shouldn't be runnign the whole conference….
I wouldn't have done four sessions anyway
array(true) ?
i am not the one who want to ask at this moment
just TRUE
but finding patience to answer stupid questions is incredible hard atm
sorry to hear about the job mate.
the idea at conferences is that you only propose talks you plan to give. :p
bthe idea at conferences is that you only propose talks you plan to give. :p/b
it's not the job — it's the immigration that further delayed.
killes:
sorry
I would have done three out of four, doesn't matter which three
what causes a 403 error on autocomplete text field when i pass it a whitespace character?
heh, i got that earlier too. filed a bug, no clue about js

merlinofchaos did you *just* code that?
you did a no-no: you called form_builder
do not be so fast.
sometimes it's necessary though MUCH less in 5 than in 4.7 (and none at all in 6)
well you said that there was no calling frm_builder in D5
oh
:O
:P
night
hey UnConeD
lo
yea, that's today's work.
wow!
you are a fast coder!
"title-delete")),
I think you still need to call form_builder to get form information when building another part of your form relies on information from the user.
no link
i didn't bother with degradeability
If you've got no javascript right now this UI won't work
Hey, I'm a Drupal newbie, but an experienced programmer/sysadmin. Has anybody read "Pro Drupal Development" by John VanDyk & Matt Westgate? Is it worth my while to grab a copy, or should I just stick with the on-line documentation?
read it
Everyone should have a copy
heh
by all means
definitely read it
It's the best Drupal services coding resource available.
Well, no. api.drupal.org is
Pro Drupal Development is the next best resource available (and the one you want first)
that's a reference… book is better to learn.
Well, you're likely to get learned quicker than just memorizing the api docs
It's a great book, really.
Which is why you want PDD first
i am, of course , seriously biased towards the book…
Cool, I'll go grab a copy. I also have two web designers here to are scared of the on-line Drupal handbook — any help for them?
web designers who are scared of drupal are often more cooperative after a cold shover
is it just me or devel list stopped working
shower, even
They're mostly going to be designing themes from Photoshop files.
Lullabot has great training courses
Dojo lesson on that?
what took so long?
hmm themes from photoshop files
i always wondered how come we don't have a psd breakdown theme
that'd take long for me
so you can just edit it and tie all the slices
I am a slow typer
I mean the the code is easy
Hi! Are you around?
There isn't much in there that I haven't done somewhere else already. Some of the javascript is kind of unique.
but I am not so fast
a typing
BTW, the UI I put in for that is something we should do on poll.module
Ok. Turning on the shower. keeping it cold. Thanks, folks.
I bet we could squeeze a variant of it in as a UI improvement
But it needs the full degradability, and also re-ordering (which this UI doesn't need)
bBut it needs the full degradability, and also re-ordering (which this UI doesn't need)/b
Wasn't there a dojo lesson on turning psd's into themes?
richv, web designers should learn one template engine (phptemplate usually a good choice)
mine!
it was horrible
heh
richv, and then just play around and get the hang of it
quicksketch!!
hi there
The dojo is still a good resource. http://drupaldojo.com
richv, because while theming "'base drupal" from photoshop is near trivial, the real magic is in full xhtml/css compliant themeing for more complex dynamic implementations
ahh, yes, http://drupaldojo.com/node/63
so when can you do a dojo lesson?
seen walkah?
walkah was last seen in #drupal 17 hours 40 min ago saying ''.
noooooooooo
is anyone having trouble with drupal cvs? i can't update/commit any of my repos
Same here
crap
what is the lesson about?
do you know when you can do a lesson at the dojo?
what are you looking for? ajaxy kind of stuff still?
Squidster wasn't sure
yup
I mean not for me
I can do ajax and I can teach too
i'd like to wait until my second ahah patch gets in before a lesson
haah
yeah i know
but I've heard others want to you
and josh_k is teaching a lesson about it to my dismay
I wanted to do that
pong
we could team up!
Do you know of any issues with cvs.drupal.org right now?
I want to!
Hmm, mailing lists and cvs down? drupal3 falldowngoboom?
what's your lesson on?
Or is it just another "cvs pserver passfile got eaten by gremlins" again?
damn those gremlins
no, I was about to upgrade viewvc, but I haven't touched the actual cvs directory yet
http://d5.logrus.com/admin/settings/user-titles
Ok. A bunch of us seem to be unable to do anything with CVS. I get a weird error, too:
bOk. A bunch of us seem to be unable to do anything with CVS. I get a weird error, too:/b

Did someone upgrade cvs?
some more jquery stuff
Yah, I have them both playing with the Zen template, using PHPTemplate; the only reason for that is 'cuz I read about it in the handbook.
dude come on
how to make you code more portable
you need to hide("slow")
avoid insanity
thats the way to go
etc
not just ajax?
I need to hit myself in the head with a hammer too
that, and regular cold showers
to wash all the dreamweaver nightmares away.
Actually for that one, hide(slow) might work.
also
i think if josh_k is doing jQuery our lessons will be quite compatible
I mean how to make your jquery more portable
the img doesn't show up on newly created titles
since you don't actually need to do any javascript to do jQuery AHAH in D6
so stuff like today's ajax/ahah question
only Remove this title
It doesn't? Hmm. Oh I know why
anyway, back to work for me
I'm getting broken image too
Analyzing…
Probably an error when I renamed the module.
ok, figued it out
Oh no, I'm a dumbass and harcoded the path.
That was fast!
img src="/sites/all/modules/custom/user_titles/delete.gif" a
Yea I'll have to send the path in as a setting.
usually I send base_path as well as path_to_module
merlinofchaos - Works good but the theme changes may be daunting to some. The more I think on it, though, the more I think it makes sense for me to try and do something based on userpoints… Having user points on the site and then having titles based on something else is likely to confuse
people. I may have a look at your code, though, to steal the UI.
try again now. there was an upgrade by me, but it didn't change the version of cvs, just a patch revision from the distro. Looks like they changed the installer to have a new useflag, `server'.
That makes total sense.
cvs up now works.
Yay!
three cheers for emsearcy!
hip hip horray!
thanks for getting my back
:P
so do you have a date for the lesson?
um, no sorry i really want to get the next ahah patch in first
and who knows when that will happen
sure
i really want to do the lesson though
where can I see an example of AHAH in core?
right now, not much
upload.module is it
Do a shift refresh, the publish your images online should be fixed.
but there are patches for poll module and the blocks page
cool
have a URL?
Oh there's a patch for poll.module already?
it'd be cool to re-do table ordering
or rather odd/even

And it turned into an effort vs reward
$('tr').each(function(i, n) { $(this).removeClass('even').removeClass('odd'); if(i % 2) { $(this).addClass('odd') } else { $(this).addClass('even') } });
nah
Ahh. Darn, I was hoping the poll.module patch would work more like my little UI here.
It doesn't use AJAX at all, though.
what interface?
$('tr').removeClass('even').removeClass('odd').filter(':even').addClass('even').end().filter(':odd').addClass('odd'); ?
Or AHA as the case may be
http://d5.logrus.com/admin/settings/user-titles
pong
I'm not flipping all of them, just after where I added.
oo that's fun
doh - just found a bug in the menu code Dries committed…
have you seen the ahah blocks patch?

Then again, it might be cleaner and a lot more bugproof to just nuke zebra and reapply the whole thing…
That's pretty much what dmitrig01's code does
Mine does it faster
Oh well actually I"m using yours anyhow.
I saw dmitrig01 link it later, didn't realize it was the same.
….but it's not quite working.
cause I don't want to get every table, just mine
And for some reason it seems like it's not applying.
iodd
try my version of it
$('tr').each(function(i, n) { $(this).removeClass('even').removeClass('odd'); if(i % 2) { $(this).addClass('odd') } else { $(this).addClass('even') } });
did. Same problem. Lemme try again.
Try stopping after the remove classes and picking up with a fresh $
Try stopping after the remove classes and picking up with a fresh $
Actually, make sure you're hitting the code in the first place
No, the removes aren't even happening. Hm.
Removes are happening to me….
try mine
Are you binding to the right event?
Yea, the event is going off, because the hide() is right before that
It's only the class changes that aren't happening
oh well that'll do it
can you use remove() or something like it?
because it's still there
No, I have to leave the form items there
Oh. Duh.
oh I know
when doing tr
tr:not(:hidden)
aha
Oh
Good one
Of course
Now these are selectors I am totally not up on yet
Heh
what's end do?
Pops the stack
Ok, that works.
in the jquery doc it'd defined as *complex*
cool
filter and find etc push a new resultset onto the stack, end() pops it
what's that mean?
It means you can go back to what you were talking about before you filtered down
bIt means you can go back to what you were talking about before you filtered down/b
$ saves your old selections
ok
that's better
That pretty much rocks.
What a nifty piece of code. Thanks!
this is awesome!
It is a great UI for manipulating lists.
it shouldn't let me add empty fields
If it had sorting it'd be the bomb.
now it needs drag+drop
sortings easy
My experience is that drag & drop is not easy
http://lovepeacenukes.com/tablesorter/2.0/docs/
Tho of course I have a fairly complex drag & drop app
that plugin autta work
not that kind of sorting
user sorting. i.e, d&d or up/down arrows
what kind of sorting?
oh
LOL
oh, THAT stuff's easy
heh
I was worrying about collation for a second ther
Nah. THIS Ui doesn't need that sorting (order is fixed, biggest to smallest) but if we were to use this to organize poll choices, then it'd need a way to re-order the list.)
I already do up/down arrows in nodequeue
it doesn't re-order apon adding
ahem… squad, we need to fix this
No, it doesn't really need to. It'll re-order when it saves
There's not a lot of payoff to re-order upon add.
grin /
Look at what jQuery does when you use jQuery objects for the dom manipulation stuff
i.e. after(), before(), append()
I'm talking about looking at the api host docs
http://jquery.com/api/
I have no idea what you're getting at.
Look at the third example for after or before
jQuery moves elements instead of copying when you use jquery objects as the param
Yes, I'm aware of this
OK
I don't get the point
It's the drag and drop part that's hard, not moving the item around.
Arrows are easy
That's what I was saying
I think a big part of the difficulty is the lack of built in drag&drop utilities
I think a big part of the difficulty is that browsers are ass
But I'm not bitter *cough*Safari*cough*
Well and IE too
(opera and right clicking *cough*)
I'll be bitter for you
No standards for parts of the stuff required for working drag and drop…
http://jquery.com/api/data/jquery-docs-xml.xml
this s cool
Write code for api.module to read it?
http://jquery.com/api/data/jquery-docs-json.js
how would you like to see the data?
what format?
In the api.module database tables, duh.
doxygen format
Actually, you can just make something like api_parse_php_manual
A client recently requested AJAX validation on forms….. I was thinking of somehow integrating it with CCK and your JSON server.
that'd be cool…
I think I know what you can do
copy the form
It would definately push the CCK + AJAX along.
*movement
that'd be cool
don't know how it would work exactly
Me neither, actually.
One of my co-workers is really pushing Adobe's Spry as well, so a Adobe Spry Server mihgt come out of this as well.
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/formsvalidation/

Komodo 4.2 beta 3 is now out, and they're gonna activate the update system tomorrow morning with a beta4
I guess you could aim at reading and maybe listening
ok, worked, I think
hmmm, listening might be harder but yeah
hard to say how hard their tests are…
never knew komodo 4.1 was out
of course listening someone talk fast is tricky…
Cool, people (:
my English scores… (out of 9.0) Listening 8.5 , Reading 8.5 (for my life I do not know what I have erred), Writing 7, Speaking 8
I don't usually try the betas, but I've been wanting a working update feature, so I'm gonna participate in this one…
so Listening and Reading are likely targets.
Anyone know if there is a module for uploading files (of various version) and having the user to accept a license agreement of some sort?
doh!
where do you start with french ? zero ?
yeah homer?
absolute zero.
Um, I did that on purpose. Yeah. I'm, um… Stress testing the debugging proxy. Yeah, that's it.
cool
but if I do not get an approved job offer I might need that 1-2 points…
currently googling some sample TEF questions…
though I believe I have 25 points on education, 17 or 19 on work experience, 10 on age, 16 on English — making 68-70 out of the 100 and 67 is the limit.

would be great.
probably when i write icons.module
if I understand anything based on my English knowledge that's a start
what is icons.module?
it'sbasically going through a short / medium text and answering a few MCQ-based questions
MCQ…?
multi choice?
icons.module is purely theoretical at this point, but it would allow completely customizable icon packs mixing and matching
er, yes sorry multi-choice (I tries a rogue translation…)
ah yes
multichoice question.
provided by any 'icons pack' or default icons provided by modules
I don't understand
well, i haven't written any code yet
so modules provide a hook_icon
but i've speced it a bitt
but I don't know if the questions themselves will actually be asked in french or in your native lanuage (which would be easier of course…
no, actually it's all in info files
and have a URL and a weight
http://www.fda.ccip.fr/documents/pdf/tef/questions_type.pdf
(higher weights override stuff)
in French.
oh
how would you do it then?
can hook_elements be used to add a field type of datetime (with year, month, day, hour, minute, second)? If so, any pointers to docs?
well, each theme would contain an 'icon mapping' in the info file
mmmh. not that easy, then…
mapping css classes to preset icon names
making it so any theme could use any set of icons
you have not seen me learning.
true
- but I know you do want that visa…
the icons module would generate the necessary dynamic css file to map the icons to the css classes of the theme
I am old and slow but when I was sixteen i learned lord of the rings word by word
that seems kinda cpp;
cool
ah…
yeah, but all in theory
but wouldn't it be cool to just be able to include a set of icons and a hook_icons and have a icon() function?
that spits out HTML
are there other categories for points?
not really, since i'd want themes to provide/utilize icons
adaptability. No dice.
I remember investigating this myself for a bit (GWB)
and we want to avoid themers needing a template.php
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG74.asp this is all.
theme_icons?
the icons hook might exist for modules, i think it'd make sense there
but for themes, definitely not
or for icon packs, also php free
just info files
also found that - but it looks like nothing official or even TEF-related : http://www.french-in-cannes.com/cours/test_eval.shtml
could you pastebin a) how a theme would use it b) what a .info file would look like
I guess I will do some very speedy learning in the next 2.5 months and then spend a month in France (Paris, Marseilles or somesuch) to accelerate the process
i'm in the middle of things atm, i'll comp it up when i'm not quite so busy
so I can understand?
because I don't
ok
er, sorry
ooooh, the old theme_icons idea!
i must not be explaining well
haha, yeah eaton
info files… info files are the secret
http://www.lullabot.com/articles/creating_awesome_new_icons#comment-722 that's spam
it's true i don't want someone to run off and code it before i get to it
ok, time to sleep - night all - bonne nuit chx
aww darn
g'night yched!
nite yched
hello
i have a question
support?
Please throw a quarter in the support jar (http://association.drupal.org/donations) . #drupal is reserved for development discussions (please see channel topic). Volunteers offering live support can be found in #drupal-support. If no one is
available in #drupal-support, try the forums at http://drupal.org/forum. Thank you for giving us a space to work on improving Drupal for you!
that
that's my quiestion lol
i created a few menus in drupal, but when i print out $secondary_links ther are only shown one of the menus i've created… and the others not =/ what's the problem (i am a new @drupal)
try #drupal-support
thx
pwolanin^^
hey all how's it going?
oh wait, wrong channel
=D
hi.. can anyone help me how do i add an upload form in a node? using drupal api?
thanks
use upload module…
anyone else here noticing something funny with menu paths when a module is enable (in HEAD)
nayone here an icon designer?
dmitrig01 maybe try #drupal-themes ?
http://drupal.org/user/162724/track
ping mikesmullin
also… http://drupal.org/user/163778 — he's BAAAACK
whos back - spammer?
The jerk from earlier today
ahhh
support vampire
at least, he was a while back
so i've decided to completely trash the cck wizard and start again. this time I'll take cues from the groups UI and this http://drupal.org/node/101707
13 IRC mentions
hey dfletcher
this is going to rock
^^
it's current state is just sad
it needs to die
wanna help remake it?
ya it needs some work, but how else would you make it?
like the way cck's groups do
i would probably wait for FAPI3 in D6
nah. multistep looks easy
for the wizard scenario
Drupal.org webmasters, User account problem, normal, active, 2 IRC mentions
if cck's groups could be nested, i'd totally hook on to them
"That's because you're BANNED, MORON."
LOL
how is he adding that ticket
:o
Second user account
he created another nick
http://drupal.org/user/163778
lol we need squidster to make a "you've been bitchslapped" graphic
lol
someone have perms to block him?
lol
ooo ooo i have an idea for the graphic
a hand smacking the face and water druplets fly off :-p
lol
nice
you're doing this to us: http://squidgystudios.com/drupal/drupa_katamari2.jpg
yikes I cause devastation!
darn I guess mikesmullin doesn't want to help me rebuild it them ;P
haha
thats a funny picture
that was actually a tough call on wizard. seriously I hope I didn't hurt mikesmullins feelings there .. he wrote a lot of code (though, loads of oo stuff that I never would have done)
but man, I wanna make this thing shine
who is he?
donno. he offered to update cck wizard to 5, so I gave him commit rights
he went a bit wild to say the least
but I can't blame him
the original had .. shortcomnigs
how did it work?
well the 4.7 one was such a horrible hack that I have blacked it out in my brain. thar be dragons
but #multistep makes things much more clear
how does the UI work?
#multistep is gone in Drupal 6. But the end result is much better.
well dmitrig01 you insert fields that act as partitions
where cani get a tutorial about it?
it's clumsy
i would love to learn it asap
eaton, hmm will it be pretty easy to upgrade that? is it worth working on now? I could use it in 5 :/
but it's not critical
what about fieldgroups?
the workflow has definitely changed, but for now you're probably best just working with #multistep.
you could steal some logic and stuff from fieldgroups
dmitrig01, hell ja
that's what I want
but just don't allow nested groups
super slick interface
yeah
that's the prob
otherwise, I'd just alter them
well super slick
is ajax
drag+drop
'n stuff
:P
and you say I cause devastation ;P
thanks for the advice eaton I'll start rockin on this
but once Drupal 6 comes out I think youll be pleasantly relieved with the way that kind of form works.
I will help you if you want
#multistep was mostly just a flag that said, "hey, let me do some complex things I couldn't before…"
drupal always gets better with age. it's like wine
in Drupal 6, all forms work that way
nice
so, for example, your _validate handler can say, 'Wait, no, stop and rebuild the form before submitting it, i need to add a captcha'
or things like that.
aha very smooth
alert. you looked too much like a spammer. let's try this again with a captcha
Right.
or, say, your submit handler can say, "What's this? you checked 'yes, add me to the mailing list?' I'll throw up another form after processing this to handle the additional input that's needed.'
oooh my wizard could have conditional paths!
that'd be awesome
exactly.
let's think about possible here now
there's definitely a lot of potential.
especially now that individual buttons can have their own submit handlers and validate handlers.
oh goody, epp is back and hasn't seemed to have learned his lesson in manners
so one button could go down one path and another could just process and end.
oooh, fun! link!

"Alternate themes/styles (argh, more interchangable terms!) would be nice; I don't much like white backgrounds…"
it wasn't a real bug report, so I closed it
also, most were nonsence
dmitrig01, so something like this perhaps. http://rafb.net/p/nIfRmN38.html
but
field is obvious - list of cck fields
maybe value is a checkbox?
let's get the basics working first
err
dmitrig01, well I think visually sometimes.
e.g. simple multistep form
sure
that doesn't look simple
so - how do we divide this up
?
adding field groups and making multistep work?
hmm, yeah. and a basic "add page" form
field group = page
should we do it that way?
and if so, which part would you be willing to get?
field groups seemed to mess up my cck fields, and i can't seem to get rid of whatever i did
so let's not make the wizard do that ;P
dmitrig01, thinking
cool
I'll do the multistep
I have some pretty specific ideas how I want it to go
ok, cool
shall I give you commit rights? hmm, how to "reset" this module
or we work offline for a bit
like, i tried setting up a field group for "media" items like videofield and audiofield (which didn't work with postgresql well) and when i got rid of them and the mediafield, it still shows my imagefield but not inline like on other nodes i didn't mess with
let's do that dmitrig01 we'll crank offline and glue it together before we commit anythin
ok
what about HEAD?
hmm how do I get back to head? co -r HEAD is it?
no
maybe…
quickstart?
quickstart is http://drupal.org/handbook/cvs/quickstart
this might help
up -dP -r HEAD?
up?
to help keep d.o up you could try http://association.drupal.org/donate or http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache%3Ahttp%3A//association.drupal.org/donate
update
thx neclimdul
no, he wants to commit to head
ooooh
nt update from head
commit/ci
well I want to get back from DRUPAL-5 in this checkout
seemd to work
but, you need to update to head first so you commit to the right tag
ah
unless ci accepts the revision arg but I don't think it does
what about cvs removing all files in DRUPAL-5 and working on head only?
aparently it does
ack HEAD is currently the 4.7 revision :/
this is fuxord
is it possible to remove a directoryin cvs
dmitrig01, tempted to try to remove all of it yeah
like completely remove the wizard
and start over
"First revision of freetagger."?
commit an empty file?
lol dmitrig01 it's another module I was working on at the time. damn
no remove contributions/modules/wizard completely
and all it's branches
erm. you must appeal to the great and powerful dww who will probably beat you
lol yeah
I recommend preparing a lot of real justifcations
wizard2?
that's cheap ;P
what is wrong with wizard?
how about this
tag it for 1.0
and then head will work
oo i just learned multistep forms!

people like him wouldnt understand
i'll do the talking next time ^_^. he'll definitely understand
i just hope not to get banned in the process
lol
You seem to have failed both. That is the reason you were blocked.
yes
i may be late but cvs up -A will get you back to HEAD.

merlinofchaos, yeah now we're trying to figure out how to utterly destroy contributions/wizard and start over
err make that modules/wizard
with eep? careful he doesn't suck out your brains
I remember when I was young and innocent. My foil to do that with was Carl McDade
happy hunting
Carl McDade?
ACTION almost responds but decides he doesn't want to get into it further with the guy, but one thing that nobody's said yet that should be said is: "Criticisms and requests for improvements are perfectly acceptable; demands for improvements without taking the time to get into the system to

"So you got banned on wikipedia too, I take it?"
dmitrig01, for now, pretend we're coding the module called "wizard" for the purpose of writing hooks
ok
http://pastebin.com/d17d127a2
how does this sound, guys
?
anything I should change, add or remove?
please?
wow dmitrig01 you have some patience there /me wrote him off as a troll long ago
hello
that'd be me
support
lemme take a guess about what you want
support?

hey!
I was right!
about what?
159199
Drupal, other, normal, closed, 3 IRC mentions
no
I said support to a user
I just guessed that's what they wanted
cool
http://waterfall2006.com/gorman.html
I have a question that hopefully someone here can help with
so can I submit that reply?
dmitrig01, I'm not the boss of you
but to me it looked good
ok
I am editing an install profile for a multisite install, and I'd like to set the default for file uploads to NOT list them, on a fresh install.
just wanted someone to check over it
did that make any sense?
ya
its an option that you can turn on or off in admin/settings/uploads
is it just a set_variable()?
variable_set?
http://api.drupal.org/api/5/function/variable_set
yeah that
sorry its been a long day
159199
Drupal, other, normal, closed, 4 IRC mentions
all your dmitrig01
good luck
no
that's not mine
I also updated the issue text verbage
I've got
159697
Drupal.org webmasters, User account problem, normal, fixed, 5 IRC mentions
oh, I meant you can have eep
my gift to you
gift
LOL :X
hey
It's almost certainly a variable_set — most settings pages work that way
check out the issue submit guidelines
http://drupal.org/node/add/project-issue
Who wrote tableheader.js?
$form['settings_general']['upload_list_default']
so the variable name is upload_list_default, right?
probably. look at the submit hook for the form
if there isn't one then it's definitely
that
dmitrig01, so the old version of this tried to form alter node/add/foo. I think better approach is to drupal_get_form myself in a menu callback. agreed?
does that guy have a 'scapegoat' tag on him?
no
to hackish
you think I should try to alter it?
ya
well
I dont see a submit_hook
is that going to work with #multistep?
I'll write a function
or something
that gives the elements
and you give it the page #
simple!
so unset() them?
but that doesn't mean i'm not retarded
you were right: upload_list_default
upload_list_default
If there isn't as ubmit hook it's using Drupal's default settings form which saves everything via variable_set
If there isn't as ubmit hook it's using Drupal's default settings form which saves everything via variable_set
its not often I'm right
wow, your new playmate went nuts.
so can I just run variable_set('upload_list_default',0);
is that how to do it?
perhaps just mention that we're not paid to help him and by ranting or attacking us, he drives down our desire to tollerate him
me? I'm really sorry if I'm asking elementary questions
that was for dmitrig01
No, this guy named eep^2 who got blocked for being a collossal ass.
oh
I did it. it worked.
well it worked when I ran it. so do I just throw that somewhere in the install profile?
how come http://drupal.org/project/tagadelic has comments under project page? i never seen that before
I know its kind of a dumb thing to set, when theres already a setting for it, but Bev wants it
nah, it's a default. Yea, set it in the profile, about the same place we did the last one
crazy - had no idea that one of the top music2.0 sites is drupal
our new friend thinks were all here for his tantrums
Just to be different.
the amount of times you have to repeat yourself before he understands any part of what you're saying is astounding.
project playlist - http://www.projectplaylist.com/
it looks like everything is in a function call, can I just put the code or do I need to say function variable_set('upload_list_default',0);
I like comments 7 and 8 myself
do you remember the last variable_set we added to that file?
to the install profile?
Yea
no
i'm looking for it
but I don't remember specifically what we put in the install profile
For the users online time
oh, right
nice looking site
oh well. now we can look forward to eep3 - eep in the third dimension! yikes! ;P
He will be like the timecube guy
FOUR DIMENSIONAL DAY! YOU WERE EDUCATED STUPID!
ok i found it
and I put my change in
guess they have about 8m users - http://davidporter.wordpress.com/2007/07/13/the-top-10-music-20-sites-june-2007/
now now, we're the holier then thou, we can't decend to his level
ok i can commit this now
right?
would be nifty if some of the features of project playlist made it back to the community
bwould be nifty if some of the features of project playlist made it back to the community/b
this guy's right, right? http://drupal.org/node/99564#comment-248090
well I guess we'll see if it works when I provision the next site
Eep I am pounced!
because, it seems that every time I want to use views, I wind up getting stuck on these non-standard joins
the guy refuses to think he is heing mad
*rude
or flaming
you too
tomorrow, when you have some time, I'd like to talk to you about putting a couple of other things into the installer profile
I think I just shut him up for a little while
he actually thinks because it's his world view, we have to take it.
Drupal, not your nice cuddly open source project
He's right, I have it backward in the doc.
NULL
Drupal, the driving towards professionalism
would you mind saying that?
Do people on the ip banlist get a nice explanatory page?
nope
i've had enough of him for the next 12 hours
I have a troll theory. they go off to some other project, humbled. act super nice. are "surprised" how well they are received there and compare it to the old comunity at face value. then they marry the princess. and then you have a princess and a troll. later, joomla dies. damn semm to have
wandered a bit
already? wimp
it;s not that
I am tired in the first place
any one of us can be pissed. but this guy was directly attacking a lot of the worng people across the entire site
ah
we also get into arguments on occasion between each other. generally most duck until the 2-4 are done
well either way, making a conscious effort not to annoy people is probably still a good practice
Directly ridiculing people with d.o admin privs: Not a good way to start your Drupal career…
next day, it's usually all better again
and I was nice too
he called me a putz
Definately. You get so much better support with that mindset…
and yet, not better the next day
please add that
I will talk more with the guy tommorow
dmitrig01, just remember. everybody in the USA hates their supid neighbor. his name is eep and he's really really lame! can we code now? ;P
Oddly enough, despite the fact that I'm a horrible programmer, I really do enjoy it
I just suck
lol
oh very well
:P
anyone here wanna take claim of http://drupal.org/user/32400?
who iis it?
in what way?
or rather why?
heh
has he done anythign?
is he not in this room?
he left. sigh
He's marked as having worked for Chicago Technology Cooperative
ah, there he is right there
jeez let's keep the witchhunt to one a night
http://drupal.org/profile/companies/Chicago+Technology+Cooperative
why? what is it?
I work there
From my home in South Dakota. XD
oh, you got a remote job then?
it's getting late here. Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.
Yeah
well congrats then
remote jobs are nice
Yeah
Especially now that I got my satellite internet
ok i'm going to take off. Thank you to all of you.
hey
'night ixlr8
oh yea… dial up. I remember that conversation more now
exit
I still have the dialup too, of course
For ssh and so forth
That would be me Yeah, I worked for the Coop till about Jan, when Jim's conflict of interest with Grassroots.org kind of cut me off
Well, I'd call the coop a "rolling conflict of interest" but it sure is a wild ride
uWell, I'd call the coop a "rolling conflict of interest" but it sure is a wild ride/u
that's pretty cool Bdragon - http://www.chicagotech.org/about
congrats
Definitely a wild ride But I might make it back someday, though my nonprofit gig is more fulfilling in some ways.
Jim is my current room mate, incidentally.
Heh
looks like you have a little spam - http://portal.chicagotech.org/
lol, that's some stale spam
the best kind - mmmm
I like hot spam sammitches
I don't know, I started on to work on gmap stuff, and I'm staying on to work on geospatial stuff
Heh
damn dmitrig01 you vanished! how am I supposed to code the multistep part of this if you're doing the cck stuff and we haven't agreed where to store the data! hmm on the node I suppose. pfft details.
I think the Coop model works, in general…it's based on tying employment to ownership, which isn't a bad model for a business or nonprofit.
I like your answer merlinofchaos
oh, dchakrab, you have doc maintainer role now
about being excluded from the community?
yes.
Really? Awesome!
Gracias
dchakrab raised a very good point; the real world works that way too.
In jobs you get fired; in social groups you get ostracized; in the military you get hazed.
more about 'this isn't the real world, it's an online communtiy. I've worked VERY hard to get that attitute to prevade d.o.
That was what I was trying to get across originally…that the convenient "the real world is harsh" excuse isn't valid.
some folks were difficult to reign in flame on response
mine is, we're not paid to be here, so we don;t have to tollerate those that can;t behave. though I had nicer words
The problem is, that's become a cliche for open source non-support.
we used to have a flame rant a quarter. I've worked hard to make sure those threads die ignored, cold and lonley
doesn't matter.
…which can result in the typical "this is the real world, accept my criticism or die" line.
which we ignore and ostrasize
I've worked hard o install the attitute that support vampires can't hold us hostage to their problems
and trolls
a few angry nasty rude people can destroy a community faster then anything and we're big and robust enoguhthat if we do it right, all they end up complaining about makes them look foolish
Hmmm…perhaps idealistically, I wish we could just teach them a better model for communication, so they'd become contributing members of the (or any) community.
he wanted his original account back, I can't believe he thinks that abuse is normal communication
we do. a lot
this one was an unusal case.
http://drupal.org/forum-posting
I need to incorporate some of dman's comment. not all though
plenty enough people stay on, then a year later they laugh about their first post
this one was name callign from his first few post.
swearing in issues, calling people idiots, etc
Agreed. I didn't see the originals, though I was lurking when people here said he was becoming tiresome in #drupal-support.
RTFM should just be RTM
yes. I do NOT want to see RTFM in any doc page
I am looking at that now to get rid of the comment
RTVLASERMODQ
OMGRTFMBBQ
read the very large and sometimes even relevant manual of debatable quality
I will just incorporate what he said into the book page and delete it
hEY!
I didn't say we ever LOSE the quality debates
The quality of the documentation is like radioactive material; it decays over time.
You can't stop that, all you can do is run around and fix the decayed bits.
Yeah…
jeez Bdragon you wrote a thesis in your fp
yes, well I am doing something about some of that very very soon
dfletcher link
Yeah, I wanted to make a good first impression in my fp
ha. I loved ximo's reply too
Oh! I got a comment from someone I sorta pushed into Drupal today. As a newbie, she found nancyw's Drupal cookbook document *really* handy; but because it was named Cookbook she passed over it first.
A cookbook sounds like a list of recipes, not a tutorial. And her doc is definitely a tutorial
get her feedback on this http://scratch.blkmtn.org/install-and-config
it;s still alpha
you intend to host that? I'd be scared to expose it to the handbook.
you intend to host that? I'd be scared to expose it to the handbook.
it's so tidy
no, it will replace the install and config section of the handbook
ah. good good
looks great
this will be CORE docs for drupal, versioned per release
It looks a little early to give to a relative newbie to comment on.
a new book will be created called something like 'Community something'
The structure looks quite nice though
for all the other stuff
it's essentially install.txt with some concepts wrapped around it
page through cap 4
chap 4
Why don't you like the marketing-sounding text? Referring to your comment on http://scratch.blkmtn.org/node/43
Is this targeted for Drupal 6?
do you want cpanel versions of things like this: http://scratch.blkmtn.org/node/15 ?
D5, covnert to docbook. put in cvs, begin update for d6 when d6 goes alpha
no.
I'm inclined to think that the more ammo we can give a dev to take to his project manager, or a nonprofiteer to their skeptical board member, the more smoothly Drupal will slip in to new orgs.
Cool.
ok. I won't write one
something like that would go int he community how to section. this is focused to be maintainable
sure. just getting the feel
this isn't about marketing. this is about installing and configuring Drupal. and writing it in a maintainable fashion. that said, I included her comments to review when I get back to that section as I could be wrong
Behold, the text on update.php has been rewritten: http://head.logrus.com/update.php
but where's the button to backup my datase?
Understood. Are there enough active doc people to start a doc channel, or should the conversations happen here?
bwahahaahahaha!
dba.module can provide that I hear
we float between here, -dojo and -support
I meant the button on the page
Guess they get to read the handbook for that
you know it's the first feature request for D6 after release
infra mailing list too
It's not a bad feature request but fairly out of scope for Drupal.
and doc mail list although currentlydead.
no, there's a docs mail list too
I know
ya
Though actually, at this point we probably could write a decent database backup.
this weekend I will be kick starting it somewhat
I started working on it at Yahoo con
Yes, I knew about the list…I was just thinking it'd be easier to get feedback (especially for someone newer to the doc project, i.e. me) in a dedicated channel.
not enough people yet for yac (yet another channel
what docbook tools do you use?
we make an ad hoc one at times.
Ok…I should head to bed. Nice to talking to you all. sepeck: Thanks for the perms. I will use my powers for good.
right now trying xxe.
Does Drupal support docbook at all?
not dedicated to one. I am doing the whole thing in book module to collaborate
it almost did once
the issues to solve are how to display on d.o. once it's done.
Yea.
also, changes to it will be limited like core is limited
You know, I could use the ability to fix typos when I come across them…. I'm sure I've skipped several dozen because of the bother of commenting on an issue…
and there WILL be a downloadable file for it
Cool
I've been subscribed to infra, webmasters, and devel for quite a while now….
Can I have a doc team bit?
I thought about drafting you but thought you were a jerk so didn;t
JOKING
welcome to the team
Woohoo!
Thanks
man, for about ten minutes, I had perms that you didn't. I'm telling Jim.
so, if I have to, I will hand add each page to the handbook and lock them with the php filter
I did yours yesterday, you don;t check the issue queue
hmm while the writers are jumping on the bandwagon… sample: http://newsrat.splendora.com/node/1 (I'd love to help with a cookbook-like development effort)
oh, really? Whoops
http://scratch.blkmtn.org/theme-developers-guide
bandwagon? cattle train
So I had a *whole day* more than my fellow Coopers, hah.
currently the theme docs are looking for a LOT of love
sepeck, yeah I'm ust playing around and writing stuff people in support ask me
but I'd love to contribute it somewhere useful
I would like for someone who wants to to seriously update stuff. If there is a good effort, then just make themeing it;s own book
that sounds very reasonable
ahd welcome to the team
remember merlinofchaos "theming microcosm" ?
yay!
well, the last 2 people who told me that that's what I needed to do bailed when I told them they could lead the effor t dvessel is tracking the cvs changes for D6 and writing that other book I linked you too
theming needs update for d5 but I will be happy if d6 gets it
speaking of bailing, laterz
haha
I'd love a more comprehensive guide to theming, since I'm going to have to tackle a fairly complex theme in the very near future. I'll document my process in case it comes in handy later.
please and update the handbook pages.
Though I'm hardly confident enough of my theming ability to write comprehensive docs for it just yet.
make a new one if you want.
If you put in stubs for the theming section of the module developer's guide I will try to put some text to it
just bits and piece it update is all
It may be terse text that needs a lot of editing help
ask me next week. when I get the install to beta quality and I will see what I can do
