I am having load troubles with my server at the moment and I think I have found one of the reasons; a truckload of TCP/IP connections at TIME_WAIT status all connected to Apache, "netstat -anp | grep :80 | grep TIME_WAIT | wc -l" gives over 700 or 800, is this normal or?
The tomcat server hosting isn't this busy, 14 requests per second.
I've seen a few people with more than me and generally have ~15-20 TIME_WAIT connections.

a few hundred open connections is not strange when using normal (300 sec) timeouts on HTTP connnections

and on the box that has cacti installed, the one that I have created the 'test' database to see if this was the problem, if I stop the web hosting with database services and I get Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' instead of access denied

i have kdm/xdm installed and have rc-update add xdm default. the .xinitrc in both /root and my /home/user file have exec startkde in them. but it still boots to a console login and the only way for me to get to the graphic login is to issue /etc/init.d/xdm restart

guys im having some troulbe getting my nvidia drivers to work properly. I followed the guide in the handbook step by step, however if i try to start X11 with the 'nvidia' driver vs the 'nv' driver the display will go dead. and when i ctrl alt backspace to the command line it will say failed to intialize GLX driver.

my card has dual DVI ports, but DVI port 1 is damaged, so I have to use the second one. When I try to run X with the nvidia driver, it send the signal to the first DVI port. I plugged my monitor into that port and got a screen, but everything was blue hence the damaged port

hi. i have a sound blaster live. works nicely with alsa but my microphone does not work. i have umuted everything, selected the mic for input and turned the "volumes" up. i can even hear my voice on the speakers but still the mic is not recorded. any idea?

X starts up fine w/ startx and uses the nvidia-legacy-drivers…but when I quit X, it says (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load GLX.

i have kdm/xdm installed and have rc-update add xdm default. the .xinitrc in both /root and my /home/user file have exec startkde in them. but it still boots to a console login and the only way for me to get to the graphic login is to issue /etc/init.d/xdm restart

my card has dual DVI ports, but DVI port 1 is damaged, so I have to use the second one. When I try to run X with the nvidia driver, it send the signal to the first DVI port. I plugged my monitor into that port and got a screen, but everything was blue hence the damaged port

X starts up fine w/ startx and uses the nvidia-legacy-drivers…but when I quit X, it says (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load GLX.
