After almost two years, Debian developers released new major version. It comes with numerous updated software packages, such as updated window managers, KDE Plasma Workspaces and KDE Applications 4.4.5, and updated version of the GNOME desktop environment 2.30. New database engines from MySql, version 5.1.49 and PostGreSQL, version 8.4.47.

As the most important upgrades in new release are new Linux kernel, version 2.4.32, web server Apache, version 2.2.16 with PHP, version 5.3.3 are included. There are also more than 29,000 other ready-to-use software packages, built from nearly 15,000 source packages.

With such amount of ready-to-go packages, Debian proves that it's made as an universal Operation System, with services for all kind of usage, from simple web server to complicated solutions with high-tech and most operational standalone server. It is suitable for many different use cases: from desktop systems to net-books; from development servers to cluster systems; and for database, web or storage servers.
