Both versions come as free distributions and are both maintained under Open Source Community.

Main difference between them is that Server edition offers technology and resources to make a private or public cloud. These services are arranged under UEC community, Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, which provides virtualization capabilities. With new version, 11.04, an OpenStack, an Iaas Cloud computing is offered as a project of Rackspace cloud by Nasa.
